you’ve been staying in ollie’s living room for two weeks now. all you do is sit around on the floor and play on his ps5. ollie sometimes wonders if you even have a job at all since he sees you at exactly nine to nine. he's only ever talked to you a few times ever since, including the day you asked to play on his ps5.
picture this. after the fia announced that two races in spring are cancelled, ollie made his plans to stay home for the spring break. the break flies by, and ollie's already in his bedroom. he only ever comes home during breaks, so it's no surprise that his neighbours treat him to 'welcome back' gifts, especially since they know he's a driver.
you're no exception to the people. oliie's known you since he moved into the apartment, and all you ever do is greet him when you encounter each other in the hallway. he likes that it’s you who is his next-door neighbour.
the only strange thing about you was when a day after he settled back into his home, you showed up with a plate of fresh-baked brownies and proceeded to ask him:
“do you have a ps5?”
"i do," he says, "it's in my living room."
"cool. could i use it for a few days?"
"yeah, for sure."
"thanks. i'll be here tomorrow at nine. enjoy the brownies." you left his sight to go back to your humble abode.
since then, the moment you showed up at his apartment at exactly the time you said you would come, he's never seen you leave his living room. for the past week, he's been watching you nonstop play this open-world dress-up game. whenever you do leave your spot, you’re to only grab food of your own.
he's thought about talking to you while you play, but he thinks you're a bit too locked in with the game to be bothered. he's only ever spoken to you a few times, mainly about the game. but today, he'll try—definitely not because he's interested.
“do you want to have dinner with me?” he asks, grabbing your attention. he realizes what he said, and he proceeds to correct himself. “i mean, just supper; it’s eight already and you haven’t eaten anything…”
“sure,” you say, standing up from where you were on the ground and following him to his kitchen. you place yourself on the stool before he hands you a bowl of cream of mushroom soup. he serves himself a bowl and stands in front of you, only the counter separating the two of you.
you tell him the soup is good, and he lets you know he just put stuff together from his cabinet. “so when do you go back?” you ask.
“racing? in may,” he responds, swirling the soup around with his spoon.
“so that means i only have two weeks left on your console.”
“pretty much.” he looks up at you, who is playing around with your own spoon and leaning your cheek against one palm out of boredom. “why are you here every day?”
“to be honest? i’m bored. do you want me out?”
“no! not at all, you’re welcome here anytime. i just wanted to know why.”
you look up at him and slightly push your bowl to the side. “i got laid off at work. been looking for a job these past two weeks, so in the meantime, i need entertainment.”
“and you decided to infiltrate my ps5,” he chuckles.
“to be fair, i used to play the game on my computer at my old job. i couldn’t lose my streak…” you mutter, bringing back your bowl close to you again.
he glances at your eyes, which keep looking at the bowl. then your slight rosy cheeks and notice a birthmark just below your eye. it dawns on him that there’s a girl in his apartment, a pretty one at that. does this count as a date?
“would you want to come with me—watch my races?” he asks, which gets you to look at him again in excitement. “i can provide passes, and you can come with me on my flights.”
“yeah! i’d love that.”
he sighs in relief and smiles. “i can bring my ps5 too.”
