GO BIG RED!
Season 11 Wk 7
My most guilty pleasure during my fitness downtime is watching the Biggest Loser. I have never seen an entire season from the beginning before and I usually don’t get so invested in the contestant but this year, it’s on! I am 100% rooting for the Red Team. The premise seems to be that the Black Team is the underdog but I completely disagree.
This show is like a day-time drama for me. I don’t get television so I always have to watch it online a day after it’s aired. Without fail at some point in the afternoon on Wednesday you can find me plopped in front of my computer balling my eyes out watching the Biggest Loser.
It’s not the pounds coming off on the scale that is most inspiring to me, but the self confidence the contestants gain and the unconditional support they get from their teammates. I think the Red Team exemplifies that best and I hope that no more of them have to leave!
Run it till you've Done it
I mentioned I am currently training for a 5K race. Actually, I am really training for the Boulder Bolder 10K race over memorial day, but in order to get into a good wave on race day, I need to submit a good time from a previous race within this year, so I am training for a local 5K in April in order to get in the wave I want.
The Bolder Boulder has a spot for everyone, from elite runners to walkers and also a wheelchair race, so you might wonder why I would even try to “qualify” for a particular wave.
The hardest part of running for me is the mental strength it takes. The more I run, the more I enjoy running and the less like punishment it feels. Yet, during the hard times there is still the voice that reminds me “You can stop at anytime, you are doing this to yourself.” If I end up in a wave where many people around me are giving in to that voice and taking walk breaks before they need to then my own discouraging thoughts will get more validity. I want to surround myself with people who run past that voice and leave it to disintegrate on the pavement behind them. It’s my own version of “fake it till you make it.”
“Run it till you’ve done it?” I dunno, I’ll keep working on that one.
What's all this?
I've never been the skinny girl, but recently, I have become the fat girl.
After two difficult years that I blame for my weight gain, 2011 seemed like a great year to get fit. Over the last month and a half I have been going to fitness classes, watching what I eat, and started training for a 5K race.
But you can't spend all day at the YMCA hiding from food and real life, and that is what this blog is for. Yes, I'm working on getting fit, but, in the meantime I am foraging for the answers to all my fitness questions, getting inspired by new workouts and weight loss stories and trying to keep up with current events, all while attempting to take care of life’s doldrum chores.
This is a blog for students of fitness – not whiners. I know starting this blog on Valentines Day seems to be an indication that I am a lonely unhappy fatty. It is actually quite the contrary. I have a terrific boyfriend and a wonderful group of friends. In fact, all the romantic dinners and friendly get-togethers have helped pack on the pounds at an alarming rate.
My biggest hope for this site is that it becomes interactive. While you are in your “in the meantime” part of your fit lifestyle, stop by and get inspired, learn something new, or leave your own comments. If you have questions about something that has come up during a workout or a meal, submit them and they will get answered. If you have before and after photos you would like to share I would be happy to post them. We all need the inspiration!
As they say, if you want to lose weight you have to burn more calories that you consume, and you can only do that through proper diet and exercise. The weight wasn’t gained all at once and it will take patience and hard work to get rid of it. In the meantime… there’s the Heavy Wait.
