          On the table before her, a cup of coffee cooled entirely too slowly as she waited to take a sip. The company of someone she was acquainted with made it worth the wait, though: Angela was endlessly glad to have found at least a few people she’d known from before she’d left this place, and the man she knew as Victor Dumont was no exception. “Well then, Mr. Dumont. Now that we have this chance to meet again, I suppose I must inquire about your health as of late.” 

          “I trust you’ve been taking care of yourself, yes?” She of course knew better — at their appointment long ago, she’d learned enough to deduce that he didn’t necessarily need to take great care of his body. But Angela was very interested to hear whatever explanation he might come up with when faced with a sudden question about his health — and of course to know what he’d been up to since her unannounced departure.

          It had taken time for Angela to encounter other people within this apocalyptic mess — and if they could not fight for themselves, they seemed only to suffer as a result of their own perceptions. Amidst other citizens running and writhing all around, Angela had propped this poor, unsuspected citizen up against the wall of a corner store as she affixed bandages to their leg in an attempt to heal a wound. They were safe for now — but she knew not to count on anything here. As she whispered reassurances to them, yet another person approached: a woman with long, pink hair, seemingly equipped to provide medical aid as well.

          “It’s alright… We’ll patch you right up.” As she spoke, she attempted to stop the bleeding, but it wasn’t proving fruitful — and she didn’t know how long she had. With no further words, she looked to the stranger behind her, hoping she’d have anything to hasten this healing.

          Angela was well aware of her months-long absence, but she failed to recall anything of the time she had presumably spent back in her own world. But she supposed that making any assumptions about the way this city operated would be as foolish as it always had been. Perhaps there had been nothing to fill the gap she’d left in her wake.

          Spirale was different now. Instead of the bustling city streets she’d grown accustomed to, only abandoned buildings and near silence accompanied her now. Vines grew wildly through the cracks in the sidewalks, and aside from the occasional sound of displaced rubble falling to the earth, all she could hear were her own footsteps. With slow, calculated paces, staff clutched within her hands, she traversed this postapocalyptic landscape in search of any sign of life — until she found it, after exiting a deserted alleyway and turning the corner.

          “I mean no harm.” Even without knowing that the stranger was safe, she relaxed her grip and took a breath before attempting to speak to him. Perhaps he was an enemy: but based on what she knew of this place, it would not even matter if she lost her life now. “Do you know anything of this situation? It is another game played by our captors, correct? You are the first person I have encountered.”

also i quite literally dropped 1000 SR after the worst of the mercy nerfs

the mom friend — gentle but stern when necessary

a pacifist... but she has a pistol, so watch out

she ages pretty slowly! but it’s not wildly different from normal

she can also fly... but only three times a day

loves wine and chocolate (swiss, especially)

despite the memes, very willingly aids those in need with no expectation of thanks

that doesn’t mean she won’t make jokes about it though!

 “So we got a chance of surviving all this , well.”

       “It certainly seems as though that’s the case.” After all, she doubted their captors would find it very entertaining to wipe everyone out forever. Even if something like that did occur, at least a fraction of the population would be revived to endure whatever else they had planned. “What’s more difficult to discern is how exactly we avoid the worst possible outcome, but I do have faith that we can work together to achieve peace of some sort.”

Stalking the border was something he did often, to gather information and for…other reasons that might not be entirely legal. His stealth capabilities (and that handy dandy invisibility spell) came in handy when hiding from patrols or guardsmen along the land lines. He was here in her domain for an entirely different reason than she was assuming, but he wouldn’t give that away just yet. She was surprisingly recognizable. He remembered their conversations in the past and how much of a pleasant woman she was to talk to. He was glad to see a friendly face.

“It was certainly an effort. They don’t take kindly to what I appear to be, though I find the shadowy environments to be more friendly. What could I have possibly done to upset them?”

Truth be told, he had just accepted a contract for an assassination, because without money, how could he raise an army to fight whatever came back in the future? Regardless of his ethics, his intentions were good.

“I trust you’ve been treated well. I think your new…appearance suits you just fine. They could have at least given me matching horns.” He chuckles at this, gesturing to the one broken horn. His missing arm had been replaced with one that appeared to be carved from rock, engraved with runes. Said runes allowed him the magic he had discovered. “I do believe this is the farthest journey I’ve made so far.”

     Angela had to wonder how much of this would remain, and how much of it would dissipate, willed by their captors once again. ‘Two weeks’ held importance, but what did it mean? How could she possibly impact the outcome of this turn of events within that time frame, or even hope to prevent the inevitable? “These four kingdoms are close to war. It doesn’t matter what you do or don’t; your appearance is enough to clue them in on the fact that you are from elsewhere. That simple fact alone will cause suspicion, or paint a target on your back.”

     “And thank you for the kind words — I do feel like a tall child, though I suppose it could be much worse.” She offered a smile, borderline disingenuous given the circumstances, but still calm and reassuring. As if suddenly self-conscious, her fingers found their way to an ear, tracing it along its new pointed shape. Her new form was already becoming more familiar, as if it were no different from a haircut; always, she wondered how other people were coping with their altered selves. “You seem to be taking the change quite well. Some others have inhabited their appearances quite literally, and have made monsters of themselves in spirit, too.”

      Despite the clear conflicts and harsh lines between Kingdoms, it seemed that so many cared not for their assigned loyalty: neither did Angela, in truth, but as a staunch pacifist and advocate for peace, she dedicated herself to helping those in need. And she knew that this was going to culminate in something bigger than all of them  —  something that would require the knowledge she had been learning since transforming into this... faekin, as it were. People came and left Airaisal, and she too ventured to the border, recognizing familiar faces that had been changed just as hers had... Even now, she recognized the face of someone she had come to know, whom she hadn’t seen in quite some time, and though his features were remarkably different, more youthful and sinister, she had a good enough eye to know who he was with certainty. Perhaps she, too, was recognizable enough despite these changes to her appearance that made her feel silly, even childish, no matter how much she enjoyed costume throughout her life. Halloween was a choice. This was not.

      “I would ask what brings you to Xalphina, but I assume you’re simply doing what the rest of us are.” Exploring, attempting to understand this strange new world, venting frustration in any way possible... with the unknown awaiting the residents of the former Spirale, morale was understandably low. And to lose your own body, the self that you knew... it was discomfort at its highest. “I trust it took quite the effort for you to get all the way here?” / @phantombxss (sc)
