MURDER TW, DEATH TW, ABUSE TW
— BIOGRAPHY: MIRANA ISABEL DIAZ was born and raised in glencoe, illinois, the third generation of her family. she is the product of a shotgun wedding, her parents getting quickly engaged at the age of eighteen, mostly a show for her maternal grandparents (well-known glencoe residents who demanded their squeaky reputation be maintained ). they were the picture perfect family of three, attended church every sunday, mira got solid grades, volunteered at every town event. she stayed under the radar for most of her life, known as the product of a HAPPY-EVER-AFTER story between two high school sweethearts. at least, until age sixteen, when a TRAGIC FIRE left her HOMELESS and an ORPHAN. she was sent to live with her godmother across town, but skipped town after only a few weeks. on the streets for nearly a year, mira eventually ended up at westchester school for advanced beings. the barely eighteen year-old excelled at her classes, but proved to be unstable and volatile. the girl vanished, eventually ending up tangled in the web of the horsemen.
this is the story of mirana diaz, the girl who became merely an enigma wearing skin. unfortunately, the story is even more grim for those who bothered to read between the lines.

the truth about her adorable little family ? her mother was a beautiful, kind-hearted woman who dreamed of studying greek history, traveling the world, and coming back to settle down in their perfect little town. she had powers, too, the ability to generate light.
her father, although very intelligent and charismatic, was emotionally and verbally abusive their entire relationship and marriage. her mother could never leave the man, always swore he was getting better, even when the abuse became physical. he never laid a hand on mirana, but the screams, the shattered glass, all within the walls of their ancient house left her traumatized. he was also a large proponent for imprisoning and containing anyone with powers. if only he’d known he’d married one.
at age sixteen, mirana was late for class, angered that she couldn’t get her locker opened when her hands began flickering with surrounding flames. no one else was around to react, and she would have thought she were hallucinating if not for the half melted lock. was she one of those monsters her father protested against ??
thinking herself quite insane for everything she’d experienced, mirana confided to her mother in private what had happened. she’d never seen her mother’s face light up so much in her life. she begged her daughter not to tell her father what she was, but revealed she, too, had powers. her mother knew of westchester, and began researching getting into contact with someone who could get mirana enrolled as a student to receive proper training.
only a few weeks later, after returning home from school for the start of christmas break, mirana returned home to a significant lack of christmas cheer. in the middle of a particularly brutal fight between her parents (her father had discovered her mother’s search history and communications with westchester), mira couldn’t take it anymore. she had thrown herself in front of her mother and screamed ‘ STOP ’. the fight did stop, but only because, in her fury, mirana had erupted into flames, the house and everything in it following soon after. the authorities said it was a miracle when they found the lone girl all that was left on the property, but mirana knew the truth: she was a curse.
they’d placed her with her godparent, a sweet woman her mother had known since high school. an innocent that mirana had no desire of harming. she went on the run, deciding it was the only way to keep those around her safe. eventually, however, she gave in. following her mother’s wishes, she contacted someone from westchester and was enrolled in their program.
unfortunately, the program was for heroes, something mirana could never come to terms with imagining herself as. her powers brought death, and they certainly couldn’t save someone. one night, after curfew, she’d packed what little belongings she had and ran, attempting to start life over.
she’d learned enough after six months at westchester to believe she could at least keep her powers under control. it did work for a few years, starting life over. she’d attended new york university on scholarship, kept her head down, and actually managed to graduate with a associate’s degree towards journalism. she’d been so close to normal for once. unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. walking home one day, a masked man attacked her in the parking lot. frightened, she’d screamed, lighting his jacket on fire by accident. throwing the flaming fabric to the gravel, he’d stared at her with wide eyes, shouted “ MONSTER ! ” and ran for his life. there would be no normal for her.
a member of the horsemen found her in a dark, abandoned alley, face tear-stained, eyes empty, and hands still alight with flames. there was no moving away to pretend she was human, there was no idealistic life of being a hero. mirana held no allegiance towards either, and this stranger had the unfortunate idea of taking her in. quick on her feet, desperate, and no penchant for rules, she was an excellent addition to their barely founded organization.
mirana has never told a soul about what happened in her past, even over a decade later. only one or two of her childhood friends even know about her father’s abusive nature. whenever family (or anything personal for that matter) comes up, mira has suddenly turned the tables, leaving you with a vague answer and asking enthusiastically about your own life.
— PERSONALITY:
mirana is decently friendly (though quite snarky and sarcastic), although there are very few people she is close to. she is 100% gryffindor, chaotic good, and loves investigative journalism because she loves to stick her nose in other people’s business. she’s much more of a listener than a talker, but also does not know how to say no to an adventure. if you hang around her too long, you’re probably going to end up trespassing, getting shot at, hiding in someone’s closet so you don’t get caught, etc. she’s also a big history nerd, especially in terms of greek mythology, one of her mother’s passions. she wants to go to greece one day so she can see it for her.
— ANYTHING ELSE:
AESTHETIC: leather jackets, crumpled newspapers, crimson, muffled laughter, ash- or ink- covered hands, rebellion, skeletons in a closet, midnight walks, old history books, messy handwriting, irritatingly smug smiles, skinny jeans, chaotic good.
Theme Song: play with fire by sam tinnesz
Her Pinterest board is here.
relatable fictional characters: rosa diaz, rogue ?, jessica jones ? unsure i’ll have to research lmao
— LOYALTIES:
WESTCHESTER SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED BEINGS - attended for under a year - frankly, mirana is terrified of them and avoids becoming close to anyone related to the school. it reminds her of her past, her mother, and her ruined potential.
THE HORSEMEN - SPY - the horsemen has changed drastically over the decade of her involvement. she has never been as interested in the activism or violence, but she appreciates the safety that comes with the organization. truthfully, she is most loyal to whoever recruited her than the organization’s values itself.
THE HELLFIRE CLUB - negative affiliation - mirana doesn’t give a damn about the rich or wealthy, mutant or not, but she doesn’t shy away from interactions with them as it allows for information to bring back to the horsemen.
— WANTED CONNECTIONS:
BEST FRIENDS - { 0 / 2 } mirana is not great at making friends. in fact, there are about two people she would even consider one. she’s not exactly sure how it happened. perhaps one of them saved the other on the streets. perhaps they hate the same person, worked together on an assignment, or just spent a lot of time in the same cafe. whether it’s taco tuesdays, rants about the surrounding idiocy they have to deal with, or falling asleep watching horrible movies for the 20th time, these are her people and she would kill for them. preferably horsemen or maybe neutral.
LITTLE BROTHER/SISTER - { 0 / 1 } - someone mirana has come to view as a younger sibling and is extremely protective of. around 25.
EX-BOYFRIEND - { 0 / 1 } - this can be either: a.) she was dating him a year or so in illinois before she ever attended westchester and dumped him out of the blue when she ran away after her parents’ deaths or b.) they had a fling/start-of-something when she first attended westchester or c.) they regardless, she left with no explanation, is mortified to see them again, and has all intentions of avoiding their presence.
FRENEMIES - { 0 / 3 } - mirana is generally snarky to everyone, but especially to these few. the bad part ?? she actually misses days when they aren’t around to tease.
ENEMIES - { 1 / 3 } - geum mina (ex-best friend) - maybe a friend from when she attended westchester who hates her for bailing, a lawful good who can’t stand her chaotic good/neutral nature, or someone who just can’t stand her snarky attitude.
ROOMMATES - { 0 / 2 } - this can be from any of the other connections or just some people who had a place with an open room when she moved back. male/female/nb, any is fine !
RECRUITER - { 1 /1 } - isaiah di angelo - the person who found her alone in an alley with her powers out of control and offered her membership with the horsemen ten years ago. she is extremely loyal to this person, although they probably do not escape her snark/sass.
OTHER - feel free to hit me up with any other ideas you have as well !
