Story Change

Since we have had no participation in the CYOA (I don't blame you guys, I know we're all busy), I'm changing the storyline to just a straightforward story with no separate arcs. As Mod K designs the 'mon and I don't see them until you do, I'm just going to pretend I'm playing a regular game and will be choosing a starter. More than likely Thubble. I will be playing as Silas with Thubble, Julius will keep a Harpling, and I will be creating a new character similar to Shauna in XY who will have a Kindwool. This character will be a guy, but I haven't decided on a name yet. Stay tuned for tomorrow's post for this character's introduction.

Kindwool CYOA Intro

Professor Valonia smiles at you as she waits for you to decide which Pokémon you would like. You reach out, hesitate, and grab the Pokéball.

“Ah!!! You have chosen Kindwool, the Tinder Sheep Pokémon! Good choice! Now, as you know, you have chosen to undertake the gym challenge by taking this Pokémon. There are eight spread throughout the Helios Region, and I’m sure you will be more than ready for each as the time comes. I wish you well on your journey, and I’ll see you later on.”

You exit the lab and release Kindwool from its Pokéball. It looks at you happily, and trots around, testing its footing in the new area. It finds a field besides the town and decides to start grazing by a small stream stemming off the river nearby. All of a sudden it jerks its head in surprise, and approaches the stream with curiosity. On the water you notice a small bubble floating, but it’s making squeaking noises. Is it a Pokémon?…. You remember you have your Pokédex in your pocket, and quickly pull it out to identify it. Hmmm…. it’s a Thubble. You hear someone coming down the path from town, and look up.

“Hey, are you (Silas/Serene)?” yells the boy as he approaches you. “My name is Julius, future Pokémon Champion. I saw you getting your Pokémon from Professor Valonia in there, and was wondering if you even know what you’re doing. You look like fresh meat to the battling and catching scene, and I, being the philanthropist I am, felt that I needed to show you how to the ropes. Up for it?”

You nod yes, while feeling your self-esteem lower at the sight of Julius, who from what you can tell is quite experienced in the ways of a Pokémon trainer. You follow him back through town and to the main river, this portion of it having a bridge to cross leading to the wilderness on the other side

“Come on!” Julius yells to you from quite a ways away. “It’s just a bridge!”

You’d never crossed that bridge before….. The rapids below crashed and roared, and the bridge was little more than rope and planks. Oh well, you needed to get across to start your journey anyway, and you weren’t going to be able to do it by staying in Argos Town. Past this bridge lied the vast wilderness, with many new Pokémon to see. You take a step forward, and off you go.

Thubble CYOA Intro

Professor Valonia smiles at you as she waits for you to decide which Pokémon you would like. You reach out, hesitate, and grab the Pokéball.

“Ah!!! You have chosen Thubble, the Cloudy Bubble Pokémon! Good choice! Now, as you know, you have chosen to undertake the gym challenge by taking this Pokémon. There are eight spread throughout the Helios Region, and I’m sure you will be more than ready for each as the time comes. I wish you well on your journey, and I’ll see you later on.”

You exit the lab and release Thubble from its Pokéball. It looks really happy to see you, and bounces around with glee. You walk with it over to the riverfront area, and it jumps in and squeaks. All of a sudden it partially submerges itself, and you turn around to see what’s happening. A boy followed by a small flower-looking Pokémon are walking up. The flower Pokémon jumps into the unmoving part of the river and floats there, looking like a lotus blossom. It happily moves closer to Thubble, and Thubble seems to relax. You remember you have your Pokédex in your pocket, and quickly check it. Hmmmm…. it’s a Harpling.

“Hey, are you (Silas/Serene)?” yells the boy as he approaches you. "My name is Julius, future Pokémon Champion. I saw you getting your Pokémon from Professor Valonia in there, and was wondering if you even know what you’re doing. You nod yes, while feeling your self-esteem lower at the sight of Julius, who from what you can tell is quite experienced in the ways of a Pokémon trainer. You stand up and follow Julius along the shore line until you reach a bridge crossing the river.

“Come on!” Julius yells to you from quite a ways away. “It’s just a bridge!”

You’d never crossed that bridge before….. The rapids below crashed and roared, and the bridge was little more than rope and planks. Oh well, you needed to get across to start your journey anyway, and you weren’t going to be able to do it by staying in Argos Town. Past this bridge lied the vast wilderness, with many new Pokémon to see. You take a step forward, and off you go.

Harpling CYOA Intro

Professor Valonia smiles at you as she waits for you to decide which Pokémon you would like. You reach out, hesitate, and grab the Pokéball.

“Ah!!! You have chosen Harpling, the Bloom Bird Pokémon! Good choice! Now, as you know, you have chosen to undertake the gym challenge by taking this Pokémon. There are eight spread throughout the Helios Region, and I’m sure you will be more than ready for each as the time comes. I wish you well on your journey, and I’ll see you later on.”

You exit the lab and release Harpling from its Pokéball. It happily chirps at you, and looks around to examine its surroundings. All of a sudden it lets out a startled chirp and hides behind you; from the house by the lab comes a boy followed by a Pokémon resembling the your mother’s childhood Skiddo she had told you so much about, but this Pokémon had a dark coal-ish color, with a flame on its forehead. You remember you have your Pokédex in your pocket, and point it at the Pokémon. Hmmm…. a Kindwool.

“Hey, are you (Silas/Serene)?” yells the boy as he approaches you. “My name is Julius, future Pokémon Champion. I saw you getting your Pokémon from Professor Valonia in there, and was wondering if you even know what you’re doing. “Come on!” Julius yells to you from quite a ways away. “It’s just a bridge!”

My manager coerced me into working a double last night, so I wasn't able to get home and work on the CYOA until midnight, and after working for over 12 hours I just went to bed. I just woke up, so I'm gonna finish up the first three story arcs and post them before I go to work at 5. -Mod G

Helios Pokédex

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the first choice tomorrow is obviously going to be what your starter Pokémon will be in the CYOA, I decided to teach myself basic HTML and make us a Pokédex. Feel free to check it out, as it organizes all the Pokémon that are being posted into one nice list. Please don't make fun of me for how bad it looks; as I teach myself more HTML, I'll update its look.

Moderator's Note

Mod K and I have talked about it, and we have decided that this region page will become a Choose Your Own Adventure story. Everyone who wants to play needs to choose their starter by tomorrow morning, and at some point tomorrow I will continue writing the story. As we continue encountering new Pokémon, Mod K will be posting pictures so you will know what they are. I'm probably going to post every few days, but will limit the story to one choice a week. If you're playing, submit your choice on the Saturday of the week so I can have a week to devise all the story lines I need to continue with. If we have any latecomers who would like to join after we have started they will have to select one of the pre-existing story arcs, tell me, and I'll branch them off into their own. Note: I'll probably write story arcs for every option the first couple of choices in case someone wants to change their starting point. -Mod G

Welcome to the Helios Region!!!

You wake up in your house in Argos Town, ready for the big day. The region's Pokémon professor had specifically asked for you to meet her in the lab this morning to start your adventure. Being new to the Helios Region, you had no idea what to expect. You quickly run downstairs and tell your mom goodbye after she hands you a pile of stuff, including your trainer card, trainer bag, and most importantly your save button.

Across the town looms the Pokémon lab with its gothic architecture and towering columns. What could be inside?

Professor Valonia greets you, presents you with your very own Pokédex, and presents to you three Pokémon. Inside are Harpling, Kindwool, and Thubble; which one do you choose????

#1 Harpling Grass Bloom Bird Pokemon As its petals grow larger, it uses its old ones as feathers. #4 Thubble Water Cloudy Bubble Pokemon Known to gather in large groups and play in the froth from small waves.

#7 Kindwool Fire Tinder Sheep Pokemon Kindwools cannot be kept in large heards or they can cause large field fires.

Hello there! Welcome to the world of POKEMON! My name is VALONIA! People call me the POKEMON PROF! This world is inhabited by creatures called POKEMON! For some people, POKEMON are pets. Others use them for fights. Myself... I study POKEMON as a profession. First, what is your name? Right! So your name is (Male Protagonist: Silas;Female Protagonist: Selene)! This is my grandson. He's been your rival since you were a baby. ...Erm, what is his name again? That's right! I remember now! His name is Julius! RED! Your very own POKEMON legend is about to unfold!
