Felicity’s mind raced quickly as they tried to absorb each and every words Orion had said. They had known reds were really no different from silvers since they had started on the war front. They all bled the same, all died the same, the only thing that was ever different was the color of the stains they left behind. They would admit, equality had never been at the forefront of their mind, particularly before meeting Bailey, but this seemed like good news. Not to mention it cleared up a few of their more confusing cases they had had during the war. Powers for some of the reds. Equality for everyone. Their family would dislike it, of that they were already certain, but it didn’t seem like such a bad move.
Everyone else around them seemed to have quite different opinions. They heard the rumblings of the crowd, spreading over them like a slow tidal wave. They looked around in confusion. Again, they were at a loss, unable to connect to those around them. It was so common by now it was almost expected, but still they had hoped to see a few positive faces in the crowd. A few that held the same hope they did. Good could come of this, they were sure of it, good would come of it. Their peers would come to see the sense in what Orion had spoken. A voice at their side caught Felicity’s attention. “Danger? Why danger?” they asked stepping closer to the woman. They were observant, they knew the ways of silvers, but if reds had powers too, then could that and the word of the king protect them?”
Ana wanted change. She wanted Reds to be pulled up out of the squalor they were born into and Silvers to try to make amends for the atrocities they subjected Reds to. Yet, she knew that this would not lead to any positive change or even any change. “ Reds and New Bloods will subject to extremists and their love of violence. Silvers will attack not only those listed but powerless Reds as well. Reds will find themselves jealous of those with powers and attempt to attack the New Bloods. ” She frowned and watched the crowd. As people shoved each other and argued, it only provided her with more evidence to her point. “ The king has offered no way to protect those whose lives he has put in danger. ” A frown prominent on her face, she added, “ And that’s just the threat of violence. What’s stopping masters from firing their New Blood apprentices and doom them to die in the war? What guarantee is given that Silvers will not fire their New Blood servants? What if Red merchants refuse to sell food and other necessities to New Bloods? Will all friends and family members accept these New Bloods or will they be shunned? ”
“ I’d love if everything was perfect now, if Reds and Silvers suddenly forgot an entire history of both sides hating the other, if a single speech could fix the many problems of Norta, but that will not happen. ” Still observing the crowd, she slipped her hands in the pockets of her Groundskeeping uniform. “ I hope the king has a plan he has yet to reveal to the public but if he does not, do you think the sheltered and idealistic monarch will be able to handle knowing that he has ruined the lives of everyone on that list and countless other Reds? ”
