Behind the Pages

Hi there! You can call me Beetle [they/them]! Most things posted here will be cross-posted to or from my main art blog @theelvishfiddler.

The art might fluctuate in quality and style as I experiment with new techniques for inking and colouring. As they say, the only way to get better at making comics is to make comics... and I am so easily enamoured by long comic projects.

I’m just one guy making this in my free time! Progress and updates will be slow ( >_<) I appreciate the patience!

I know intersex people are still getting excluded in a lot of LGBTQIA+ spaces (let alone wider society) and I think it's crucial to show this group is included in the statement that we all deserve equal rights.

I had to add text so the number wouldn’t be giant: 99

99 is concept art! You get background character designs!

I don't enjoy doing character design, but I'm pretty happy with these guys,,, Bearded Dragon Dad and Axolotl Kid beloved

They only exist within the story to further the plot, but here is some extra info about these background characters anyway!

Bearded Dragon Dad's girlfriend left after he and the child were mutated. They are better off without her tbh, but he is still heartbroken (u_u ). Mr. Dad has been doing a great job raising his kid alone despite struggling to find consistent work as a mutant. After April helps them in chapter 3, they get away and are sheltered by kind members of their community.

Axolotl Kid finds being a mutant to be awesome, the axolotls were her favourite old pets, but is frustrated that she gets treated differently by other people. The kid wants a baseball bat now. April is very inspiring!

Mr. Polar Bear is a indeed a BEAR (was still new to the community and working on that body positivity u_u). He is very kind and quiet. Being mutated did a number on his mental health... he was afraid and ashamed of the change so he isolated himself and never told anyone. This unfortunately made him an easier target (ToT ). We will get this man some comfort and confidence as well as friends who love him as he is. (Bonus fact, he used to be an assistant zoo veterinarian.)

Hoodie Girl is a young trans woman who is just trying to get by! She used to love getting dolled up and going out with her friends, but she has been experiencing a lot of fatigue and brain fog for a while now. Despite something being Very Wrong with her memory after the incident, she is still trying to help her neighbour in spite of the danger to herself.
