CAMBERWELL NOW: speculative fiction
Oh yeah and I had to meet with my professor at his flat (!) last week to discuss my ideas and we listened to some music together - he wanted to hear the stuff I want to include in the essay! Actually he wanted to burn copies of my music! So we listened to this song, and he freaked out because of the title….because like, there’s this theory or something called SPECULATIVE REALISM that’s really in vogue right now and the term was made up by some academics at Goldsmiths a few years ago, so my prof was all, WTF?! Maybe he was thinking Camberwell Now was on to something similar 25 years ago….which would actually be kinda in line with my idea about the occult nature of this shit. Skipping through wormholes in time and style (notice how this band and This Heat precede the math rock of a decade later…), resurrection and reimaginings of dying ideas when they become necessary again, etc.
Ha ha, I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about but I’m sure I can make it go somewhere.. Anyway, he was really enthusiastic about my ideas and the angle I’m taking, so that’s good. He seemed to kinda get what I am aiming for at least, ha ha!
