The dark death: amazing photography by Yaryshev Evgeny

I remember when I first saw this photographer’s one amazing picture (this one) and I couldn’t get it out of my mind. Experienced the same feeling this time, again. Dark ground, death, beautiful black and white coloring… Uh! Looks fantastic.

Clementine Captures Earthshine The Clementine Mission was a joint project between the Strategic Defense Initiative Organisation (USA) and NASA. The Mission’s objectives were to test sensors and spacecraft components under extended exposure to space; as well as to image the Moon and near-Earth asteroid 1620 Geographos. Launched on 25 January 1994, the spacecraft performed two Earth flybys before beginning lunar mapping. After successfully completing two months of mapping, and leaving lunar orbit, one of Clementine’s on board computers malfunctioned. On May 7, a thruster was set to fire until all fuel was exhausted. This resulted in the spacecraft spinning at about 80 rpm with no spin control. Unable to resume observing, the spacecraft continued to test spacecraft components until the end of the mission. This image was taken in 1994. In this picture, the Moon is illuminated solely by light reflected by the Earth. The bright glow on the Moon’s horizon is caused by light from the Sun’s corona.
