Falling Leaves on the Ground
It was absolute chaos. No one had been expecting things to take such a turn when the announcement had come blaring from the intercom: Mount Augustine had erupted. The first stage of reaction had been shock, as if no one quite knew what to do about the news but this was soon followed by panic and pandemonium. Law enforcement had arrived on the campus not too long afterwards, to corral the people and assist in the immediate evacuation of the university.
Komui felt a momentary pang in his chest for all the things he would have to leave behind, worried of the possible damage that may occur during the time of crisis but it could not be helped. If there was one small consolation, at least they were afforded the opportunity to grab a few personal belongings from their residences instead of being instantly herded to the shelters like he had expected. At least he would be able to get his mug from Lenalee from his apartment, that was an irreplaceable item that he simply couldn’t imagine being without.
For once he was glad that his precious younger sister wasn’t here with him, that she wouldn’t have to experience any of this. He should probably send her a message before his phone died out to let her know he was at least okay, lest she catch sight of the news and worry for his well-being.
The scientist had finished gathering his belongings and was on his way to his designated shelter when all of a sudden he remembered Link. His assistant had been planning on arriving later in the day and was therefore not at the university when the disaster had struck. It worried him as to where the blond was however, not knowing whether he had been in a safe enough area when the eruption occurred.
I should go check the park… just in case…
Taking a detour to the park where Link resided, he felt his heart sink within his chest as he realised just how bad the extent of damage was, Stepping cautiously over fallen trees and other debris, he called out anxious as he searched for the familiar face.
There…
This time his heart nearly froze completely as he spotted a crumpled figure beneath a toppled tree, the figure pinned securely to the ground. From his current position, there was no way to tell how extensive the damage the youth had sustained was so he hurriedly raced over with his heart pounding in his chest.
“LIIIIIIINK!!”
Even he knew what was happening; it was hard not to.Without a phone or computer he had been one of the last in the city to learn there was a volcano, but word had spread through the town like wildfire the moment the tremours had started and Link had quickly found himself in a state of unease.
Evacuations, emergency shelters... He had caught wind of different procedures and policies from those using the park as a commute but he hadn’t known how it had affected him. He’d no way of knowing when or if his park was on the evacuation list, and no one had come to tell him to leave. With Navi inside his sweater, and his bag packed at his feet the blond had chosen to stay put until he was told otherwise... Hoping that with how many people he knew across Bellevue, someone would tell him if it was time to leave.
But no one had come. No one had told him his park was on the evacuation list... It wasn’t until a rather rude awakening did he realize he should have left. Waking to the sound of crashing, and what felt like the ground under him was splitting apart; Link had tried to scramble to his feet but it had been for nothing. The tree he called a home, the tree that had given him shelter and comfort since arriving on the island was uprooted and came tumbling down before he had time to register what was happening... And then it was dark.
LIIIIINK!
He groaned, struggling to open his eyes as his name thundered in his ears. The more he came to, the more the aching pain in his back became real, the more the sensation of being unable to move became real. Cracking open one cerulean eye he caught the blurry face of a familiar professor before letting it close again. It hurt, everything hurt. He wanted to tell Komui that his back hurt, that his legs were numb, that he was scared, that he wanted to know where Navi was... But he could make no more than a grunt in sound. One of his hands was pinned under himself and he had no way to express his fear.
Instead he reached out, wrapping shaking fingers around the pant leg of the older man, gripping tightly as best he could.
Help me.
