What is so wrong with using the formal word of something? For example when I'm referring to men and women, I'll often say "males and females" but I've met some women that get annoyed when I use the word female. What's so wrong with formal language? Why do we have to be informal all the time?

Honestly when I’m talking with a guy and he decides to use the word females instead of girl/woman/lady I immediately get uncomfortable. In my experience any person who refers to women as females are usually the first to call a girl a slut or bitch or have horrible things to say in general. I also went to high school in the Bay Area though sooooooooooo
