I never actually made that many promises to break this season. You and I had an agreement to final four that I laid out during the Mitchy vote but no FTC promise. I did absolutely run roughshot over alliances that were built on trust that I knew would break eventually. In some cases, like with Billy and Gaston and you, I was the one who broke them. In some cases, like Mitch and Lily, they were broken against me first. That’s gonna be the nature of the game. That said, I wouldn’t describe my touch this season as “delicate” so I can see where you and others would be hurt or unamused at the way it was handled.
I never entered this position asking for the “puppet master” label, I didn’t know that was a thing until Zach’s jury question. I think it would have also been a cool story to make it to the end with you, that’s not a question. I think completely blank slate between the three of you, you are the person I might have tried to side with to finish this out together. But it wasn’t a completely blank slate, that changed when Jordan and Logan came to each other and to me to save me from going home F6. They stuck their necks out to work with me and I knew if all else went as it should, I was going to follow through with them. I’m sorry that left you out, there’s always going to be someone as the final juror. I’ve been there before, so have Jordan and Logan. But as I said, there weren’t many long-term promises that I made throughout this season (there may have been several assumed ones but that’s a whole other thing), and I knew it was important to me to see it though.
I’ll direct you to my answer to Billy and Lily’s questions for your last part, but cliffnotes version, I was not and was never playing for second. I came here to win and never lost sight of that. The “playing for second” thing was something I jokingly said for all of two days in the immediate aftermath of another season to try and shrink the target around me, because between a very recent win and the way our tribe entered the game, I was standing out too much and needed to not be seen. I had no idea it would have such far-reaching implications, but it’s just not the case. I’ll be honored if I get second because I’d be so happy for the person who wins if it’s not me, but the goal is to win, and I hoped with my gameplay this season, I earned that. Side note, those last three rounds were plenty exciting from my perspective! We all went through some shit!

Quickly before we start playing the “How many adjectives can one person know” game (and yes, I am absolutely only giving you single-word adjectives because this is 60+ things you want me to say and that’s just extra as fuck), the reason I lied about you giving me an extra vote after the Akito vote was because Jordan didn’t want everyone to know he’d played two extra votes in one tribal. Because he’d gotten both of his from Team Galactic and really no one else on “our side” of that vote had gone to Galactic, the story I came up with was that in the two minutes before the double tribal when we realized you were leaving, you passed me an extra vote that YOU got from Galactic so it could stay in the game. It was a small concession that I made so Jordan would feel more comfortable with the aftermath of making the move.

Zach’s Statement
Hey Zach! I’m gonna link you to my answer to Billy and Lily’s questions because it handles the first two parts of your question. Was definitely playing for myself to win this season, that’s always gonna be the goal. As to the third part, YIKES “the puppet master.” I guess that’s better than the Spencer Bledsoe “pieces on a chessboard” depiction. I would describe the main part of my game as having an aggressive social game, which is weird that it’s what I’m using as a main pillar for me because it’s usually my weakest area and I tried so hard to make it work this time. I obviously went on a challenge streak but I didn’t rely on it or get complacent within it. I stayed strategically minded and had a reason for every vote I cast. But the thing I would hang my hat on this season is how strong I was socially. One of the biggest tenets of a strong social game is to always have more people who trust you than people you trust. That way you’ll always be brought into the big moves if they’re going to be made. I think of an aggressive social game as someone who builds tight trusting connections with people but then uses them not just to stay afloat and always informed and on the right side of power, like a Michele Fitzgerald winner, but to shape and influence the game so the outcome you’re looking for always happens, and the people who trust you all work with you toward what the “common” goal is at the time. There are two kinds of winners that have used that avenue, a Kim Spradlin winner and a Brian Heidik winner. I could never pull off being a Michele, I don’t understand the concept of UTR. I think I definitely drifted closer to Heidik than Spradlin, but in the end the difference there isn’t the goal, it’s how it’s perceived after the fact.
My goal for the season was to utilize the connections I’d had and the connections I’d built to control the game. Every angle of it. I tried to control the powers and when they were played, in things like making sure the Super Idol stayed with the ghosties until we needed it, in having Logan play his blind week in the same week I was planning to have Jordan use his extra votes, in knowing where everything was to use it or cut it. I tried to control my position in the game by being a part of every alliance that was formed post-merge except two: the six-person alliance that I fought to break, and the alliance formed at F6 to kill me. In both of those alliances, I always had two people who would tell me what was being discussed there so I could plan around it, Logan and Mitch in one and Logan and Jordan in the other. So in both of those cases, I had people I trusted and who trusted me enough to tell me what was happening so we could make better plans around it. I tried to control the vote order so it was beneficial to me over anyone else. Speaking from the perspective of the other two with me, it was not in Logan’s best interest for Akito or Gaston to go when they did. It was not in Jordan’s best interest for Rob or Billy to go when they did. I made those happen, in each case using a new alliance that I formed through my social connections to get the result that I needed in order to continue shaping the direction of the game. I’ll point them to Rob’s jury question for a bigger breakdown of the decision that went into every vote because that’s what was asked for from him. But at the end of the day, I was the only one here who did more than just survive. I shaped the game. The bootlist of the season was one I created, the alliances in the game were made either by me or because of me, I earned this win. And if I lose because of bitterness or as people like to say, “bad jury management,” I’m okay with that. I’ve been on both sides of this equation a LOT. I hope this has been a help in swaying you and the members of the jury who have looked at “puppet master” as a negative that playing a dominant, strong, and yes aggressive game doesn’t mean it was a bad one. Whether I’m ultimately the winner or the final obstacle that someone else has to clear to win, nothing is going to take my pride in my game this season away from me.

We’ll call it half still a thing? It wasn’t the reason I wanted to win but it was the starting motivation. We had that conversation the day after the double tribal, when I was still reeling from Eric and Jenna leaving and from what it was going to mean for my game. I’d just found out about the six-person alliance and was frustrated at my place in the fabric of the tribe. So was it a little too emotionally charged? Absolutely. Of course I don’t think y’all are assholes or anything. Because you’re the one asking the question, I’m gonna relate it to a candle. When you light a candle that you’ve already burned before (especially if you’re like me and don’t bother trimming the wick), the wick puts out a huge flame for about 30 seconds, there can be bits of ash that heat up and break off with a forceful pop and stain the glass, and then it starts to regulate into a much more consistent flame. As I said in my opener, after that vote was the moment I flipped the switch to go hard at the season. This conversation was the huge flame and the pop of ash at the start of it. A little too brusque, a little too flashy, but proof that I was starting to care, and I regulated myself out quickly past that point to do what needed to be done. I stand by the seeing how it’s gonna go part though, I had no idea how it would work out or if people would let me play. I had doubts that I’d survive the night. So that’s what that stemmed from.
The best new relationship hands down was Jacob. And I’m not just saying that because he was one of only like 2 people that I met and interacted with for the first time in this season. His energy on the ghostie tribe was a lot of fun to be around, especially in working through the first challenge when he wrote the descriptions for our apps in the Pokétch. We didn’t get much of a chance to play together because we didn’t end up together in the swap but I got to leave him an idol and transfer him a super idol. Also meeting up with him at his work three days after the end of the swap was a great time, I still burn the Jacob Candle™ for luck when I needed it in the games I’m in. He rose through my personal ranks of someone who was going to be important to me very quickly. And now being hosted by him in my first non-Tumblr game as well, 10/10 best new friend I made.
Sinnoh: Rob’s Jury Answer
Rob’s Statement
F13 - Jordan and Rob: I’d been told all of premerge that Rob and Logan wanted me out, so I wanted Rob out. I didn’t have another target in mind and was already playing my idol, so I put my other vote on Jordan, knowing about his legacy advantage and telling him he NEEDED to play it so my vote would likely be negated, but I also got other votes on him in case he didn’t so he’d leave with all of his powers and I wouldn’t have to deal with them.
F11 - Akito: He called me scary so he had to go!!! ;-; and Logan and Mitch told me about the six-person alliance of Akito/Zach/Rob/Mitch/Gaston/Logan, so I had to start breaking it up by pulling everyone else together and using the powers we had between us. Extra moment because it was sweet for me, Akito was the one who approached me in the last 8 minutes to flip the vote onto Eric and I blamed him for Eric leaving, so there was also a touch of revenge involved
F10 - Zach: Half of what I perceived to be a strong duo with Rob, based on the whole playing a power on him thing. Least objectionable target I had to bridge the gap, start building trust with Logan/Mitch/Gaston but still keep my old alliance on the same page and voting together
F9 - Rob: The result of Billy saying “Let’s vote Mitch” and me not wanting to do that, and Jordan saying “Let’s vote Lily” and me not wanting to do that. Also, by the time of the vote, the last person I didn’t have an alliance with. This vote was also a little flex of how much influence I had and how much people trusted me, because pulling off a 4-3-2 by telling everyone where to vote and everyone thinking they were gonna be majority?? Was kind of awesome.
F8 - Billy: This is the first vote where it wasn’t so much about who left for me, as who would be left and in what configuration would they be. Not what I thought I was gonna do at first, I thought I’d be voting out Mitch then trying to make a new alliance of Billy/Gaston/Logan. Because all I knew I wanted most from this vote was to be in the middle of two 3-person alliances. Then Jordan told me he was throwing his vote on Gaston for some reason, so I ran with the established group of Mitch/Logan/Gaston because I had better trust that they’d be together for the next vote.
F7 - Gaston: Knew I needed to side with Jordan/Lily/Steven for this vote because they were the weaker 3-person alliance bc of the whole Jordan wanting to kill Lily two votes ago thing. So I consented to their target, who I really thought would be Mitch again but ended up being Gaston.
F6 - Mitch: One of the two people who plotted to send me home this vote, and the one who didn’t have immunity. An easy decision.
F5 - Lily: The other person who tried to take me out at F6, and the last person whose game I couldn’t touch because of how well she played it. Controversy in how it went down aside, it was the last vote I KNEW needed to happen for my game because I didn’t stand a chance against her in FTC, and the one I didn’t think I could ever convince to take me to finals.
F4 - Steven: During the Mitch vote, Logan and Jordan went above and beyond to make sure I’d be safe and not going home. I made my final alliance chat that night and ran to the end with it. Steven was the last person not on the list.

Billy’s Statement
Lily’s Statement
Okay Billy and Lily, I’m combining your responses because part of what you asked was the same thing, and then I’ll separate for both of your other parts at the end. But as far as this whole “playing for second” thing goes, it is something I was shooting for. In Mare Island. I thought it would be cute. In Mare Island. Because it was an alias season. And all respect to Ricky, I had fun in that game, it was a trip at times, but I was not playing that game to win. And winning it was amazing, but it sucked from a Sinnoh perspective because it was like three days into the reveal of the ghost tribe and the last thing in the world I needed was ANOTHER reason for people to not want me there. So yes, I played that up for a bit, saying I still wanted the 1-2-3-4-5, saying I knew I wasn’t making it here, just wanting single digits, and it was absolutely about diminishing my target. Lily kept repeating “You’re Drew” in her statement and that was a thing I wanted to avoid fighting against the entirety of the game.
But do not mistake what I did here for one second, I was playing to win. I’m always going to play to win, with that one notable exception of an alias season that virtually no one took super seriously. You were both in it, you can attest to that. I entered this game trying to be the winner of the season and I’m still here trying to be the winner of the season. I made the moves I needed to always have my next move available, I fought for challenges, I collected powers, I made connections, I forged paths, I created every alliance chat I was in the entire game when I needed them. I FOUGHT for this, in a lot of ways harder than I have in other games I’ve managed to win. And at the end of the day, I want you voting for the person you think truly earned the win this season. If despite your anger toward me right now, that person is me, thank you, I agree with you. If it’s Jordan, that’s great, I’m so fucking proud of him. If it’s Logan, that’s great, I’m so fucking proud of him. Just don’t vote for someone else because you want me to lose, and don’t vote for me because you want someone else to lose. No one wants to win because someone else lost, they want it on their own merit. And don’t try and maneuver the entire jury to give me third, give everyone the dignity of control of their own vote.
BILLY
For your other question, I voted you out because I needed the alliance of Mitch/Logan/Gaston to be together for one more vote, to sit me where I needed to sit between the two groups of three who had been in opposition for most of merge. It was the only way I was sure I’d have total control over the next vote. I had idols and wins but that gets me further and nothing more, I had that in Burma but I didn’t have anything else to show for it except a seat at FTC. I needed something to say here. So none of them were leaving if I had anything to say about it. I wanted Jordan and Lily to stay that vote because Jordan had just tried to flip the game on Lily and even though I stopped that, that was a crack I was saving to use later if I could, which also paid off. So I was down to you or Steven, and I did not want to kill the last other original Nejire because I really wanted one of us to make it here, and I wasn’t sure it would be me yet. You were my only viable option from a game perspective, and yes, it fucking sucked. I didn’t think about it as choosing Mitch over you, I didn’t look at it as choosing other friendships over you, because like I said in my opening, everyone left was a person who is important to me. From a perspective of the numbers and where everyone sat looking toward the end, you were the person I most needed to leave that vote for my place in the tribe to continue the way I needed it to.
LILY
I know you didn’t ask me another question, and I hope I answered your main question enough up top. I’m not picking someone that I thought would get first over me because I was absolutely playing for it myself. The main thing that I want to tell you now is that you’re saying I should have just bowed out of the challenge from the start, or played it out. And you’re right. Both of those options would have been more fair to you. All that I can say for myself in that moment was that we were in an instant challenge and tribal. There was no way to plan for that moment. I was being asked to choose between my real life and my org life. And I tried to choose both. My org self needed you to be fifth place for the benefit of my game, my irl self didn’t want to keep my roommate waiting longer than I had to. The way that played out was the closest thing to a compromise between the two lives that I could think of in that moment. I know it’s not what you want to hear, I know it’s not the “honorable” thing, to play a challenge not so I win but so you lose. It was ugly, and if it costs me your vote or your friendship or anything else, I understand. I just want you to know a little more of where I was coming from that night. I’m sorry.
what she says: I'm fine
what she means: Gabriella opens her mouth at the start of breaking free to sing and can't because of stage fright. But then the first line of the song is sung by Troy?? Was she meant to start it instead? Did he take her lines because she was nervous? Did they sing the whole song singing the wrong parts? Was that not really difficult and confusing to do? Do they switch back at any point? When? Or was there maybe a whole line at the start of the song that Gabriella was meant to sing that we never heard???? Did something come before we're soaring, flying??? What are we missing out on? Will we ever know???
