Reblog if you love "How to Train Your Dragon"
The amount of reblogs that this post has makes me immensely happy.
I got two asks for this one. Its a little short. I didn’t have much time to write today but I really wanted to do one of the prompts. I’m thinking maybe its set before Hiccstrid became official.
“Please don’t die in my lap. I’m begging you.”
Everything hurt.
Something was drawing Hiccup back to a world of pain and heat and cold. His eyelids felt like they were made of lead, they were so heavy. Light danced behind them, fuelling the fire that burnt behind his eyes. The one comfort was the hand he could feel running through his hair and a soft voice pleading.
“Please Hiccup. Please don’t die in my lap. I’m begging you.”
As he struggled to the surface he could feel someone holding him. Rocking him. Back and forth. Back and forth.
“’m not gonna die.” The words tore at his throat and sapped his waning strength, but he needed to say them. He needed to reassure the person holding him, that he was not going anywhere.
He could hear the note of surprise in Astrid’s voice when she spoke again. “I didn’t realise you were awake.” Her words were soft, like a gentle caress, wrapping Hiccup up in her presence.
He struggled to sit up. His arms were constricted against his chest by the blankets he was wrapped in. Hiccup shivered in the soft furs, moaning as their warm comfort turned to scalding heat.
“Shh, here. You need to drink.”
A cup of cool liquid was held to his lips. Hiccup spluttered as the foul potion hit his tongue. He choked the liquid down and managed to crack one eye open.
“Are you-“ he broke off, a wet cough rattling around in his chest. “-trying to kill-“ a gasping breath “-me?” Hiccup screwed his eyes shut and concentrated on dragging air into his aching lungs.
The rocking stopped.
“Was that a joke? Maybe you are getting better.” Hiccup could hear the smile in Astrid’s voice.
“’m dying,” he groaned. “This is def’nitely what dying feels like.”
“No you’re not.” Was that hesitation? Hiccup couldn’t tell. “You are pretty sick though.”
“Bu’ I heard-“ Astrid’s words from earlier echoed in his ears. Please don’t die.
“You scared me Hiccup.” Astrid shifted beneath him. “You’ve been sleeping for three days and your fever was so high.” Hiccup shivered as a gentle hand was pressed to his brow. “It’s still too high.”
“’m sorry As,” he mumbled.
“For what?” The hand on his forehead stroked backwards into his hair, sweeping the sweaty bangs away from Hiccup’s face. “For getting sick? We all got sick, it just hit you harder.”
The hand carding through his hair was soothing Hiccup back into the murky depths of sleep. He let himself sink down, hoping that next time he woke, Astrid would still be there holding him.
Just as he was drifting off, Hiccup could have sworn he felt her lips press against his forehead.

Anywho…
CHAPTER ONE
Dragon’s Edge was gone.
The island was nothing but a smoking wreck of charred forests and rocky outcrops. The outpost had been flattened by the pyroclastic surge that had exploded from the erupting volcano. The Dragon Riders had barely made it out, racing the against the flow of hot gas that obliterated everything in its path.
Hiccup was at least consoled by the fact that no dragons were injured during the eruption and that they could still make their home on the island. However, it was no longer a habitable environment for the Vikings. The thick ash plumes wouldn’t bother a dragon, but human lungs were much more delicate.
“What do we do now?” Fishlegs had his hands resting on Meatlug’s back, reassuring himself that his dragon was okay.
The group had landed on a small island to rest. Though Dragon’s Edge was no longer in sight, the viscous smoke cloud could still be seen rising high into the sky. Occasionally there would be a flash of lightning from within the cloud, as though Thor himself had been angered by the loss of the island.
“We can’t go back there.” Hiccup turned away from the scene before him to look at his friends. Astrid stood by him, her fingers loosely linked with his in a show of support. “We should head back to Berk. We can regroup and decide what to do with the last of the Dragon Hunters, but with no one to guide them, maybe they’ll disband.”

“That— That’s your blood! Why the hell didn’t you say anything!?” - for the whumpy prompts thing pleeeeeeaseeeee :D
Here ya go!
Set after HTTYD 2
Hiccup stumbled.
Astrid threw out her hand to steady her boyfriend, frowningat the tacky feeling of his black flying leather. She drew her hand back, paling when they came back streaked with crimson.
“That- That’s your blood! Why the hell didn’t you sayanything!?”
“Huh?” Hiccup stopped in his tracks, looking down at hisclothing. He’d been pale since the crash, but they’d both put it down to shock. He felt battered and bruised, nothing serious, but now that he thought of itthere was this stabbing pain in his side. “Oh! I didn’t- I-“ Hiccup swayed onhis feet.
“Oh for Thor’s sake, sit down.” Astrid pulled Hiccup down tosit on a fallen tree.
The two dragons had run off ahead, but they came dashing backthrough the tree, Stormfly’s keen senses having picked up the smell of blood.
Toothless nosed at his rider.
“I’m fine bud,” Hiccup rested his right hand on the NightFury’s snout. “Just a scratch,” he caught Astrid’s worried expression. “Really,I didn’t even notice it until just now.”
And now that he had noticed, by the God’s did it hurt.
“Show me.” Astrid was already working to undo the strapsthat held the leather pieces of Hiccup’s outfit together. The dark material wassticky along the edge where the thick black leather ended and the lighter brownfabric crossed down over his stomach. Astrid frowned as she ran a hand over thesuit. “This is torn,” she noted. “How did you not notice this?”
Hiccup shrugged, wincing at the motion. “I was more focussedon the fact I’d survived falling out of that tree.” He joked.
“You shouldn’t have been up a tree in the first place.” Astridscowled to cover up her feelings of guilt. “You’re the chief of the villagenow,” she reminded him. “You can’t just go galivanting off and throwingyourself into these dangerous situations.”
“We’re allowed time off,” Hiccup argued. “We’re allowed tolet off steam. We were messing around. Accidents happen.”
“I should have asked Stormfly to put you down on the ground.”Astrid had successfully stripped Hiccup of his top layer of leather. Herfingers brushed over the jagged rip in the layer below. Here the blood wasobvious against the light brown material.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Hiccup tried to reassure hisgirlfriend. It wasn’t easy when his breaths were coming in ragged gasps as shepoked at a particularly tender spot. “It was funny.”
“It was foolish!” Astrid’s outburst shocked Hiccup.
It had been funny. In a situation similar to Astrid’s firstencounter with Toothless, Stormfly had plucked Hiccup from the air after he’ddived off Toothless. Under Astrid’s instruction she had dumped the dragon riderin a tree.
They had both laughed at Hiccup’s surprised squawk.
And then Hiccup had slipped.
He’d probably only been a few metres up the tree and he’dmanaged to snag onto the last branch long enough to slow his decent. He’d stillhit the ground with a painful thud.
In a much gentler voice Astrid directed Hiccup to raise hisarms so she could remove the last piece of armour.
“Yeah, that might not be possible.” Hiccup’s face wastwisted in pain. Toothless gave his rider’s face a sympathetic lick.
Astrid drew the small dagger Hiccup kept tucked into hisleft wrist guard.
“Hold still,” she told him, slicing through the thick fabric. She hissed as the material fell away to reveal the sweat and blood soaked tunicunderneath.
“I really don’t feel good,” Hiccup muttered.
“There’s a lot of blood,” Astrid inspected the tear in thetunic. Bits of stick fell through her fingers. “How hard did you hit that lastbranch?” She wondered out loud. “The Thor damned thing pierced right throughyour armour.”
She used the rags of Hiccup’s shirt to wipe away some of theblood and inspect the wound. “I can’t tell if there’s anything stuck in thereor not.”
Hiccup paled even further. “You don’t think-“ he started.
Astrid held a wad of cloth to the wound to stem the bleeding.Hiccup hissed as the rough fabric made contact with his skin. “We can’t besure,” Astrid lifted the makeshift bandage to see if it was still bleeding. “Weneed to get back to Berk now.”
“We should take Toothless, he’s much more sneaky,” Hiccupmurmured.
“Don’t go silly on me Hiccup, you haven’t lost that much blood.” Astrid joked, but shewas worried. There was a lot of bloodon Hiccup’s clothes, she just didn’t want himto know that.
“As you wish Milady.” Hiccup stood, swaying on his feetwhile Astrid held him steady.
“Try not to faint,” Astrid pleaded. “I don’t think I couldcarry you.”
Hiccup scoffed. “I’m tougher than that.”
“That’s the spirit babe.” Astrid encouraged him to walk overto Toothless. Never mind how stealthy he was, the Night Fury was shorter thanStormfly and it would be much easier to get Hiccup onto his back. Astrid wouldbe able to ride behind him and control the tailfin.
“Up we go.”
Hiccup blanched as the movement sent a spike of pain throughhis side. He grit his teeth and held on to the front of Toothless’s saddle.Astrid climbed up behind him, reaching around his narrow waist to hold onto him.
“You keep pressure on that wound,” she instructed him.Hiccup nodded, one hand held the tatters of his tunic against the hole in hischest. Though four inches shorter than her tall boyfriend, Astrid had no troublepeering over his slumped shoulders and directing Toothless to take off.
Stormfly flew level with them as they made the short journeyback to Berk.
She felt Hiccup go lip in her arms as they touched down on thewooden decking outside the healer’s hut.
“Gothi!”
The small woman came running.
()
Hiccup opened his eyes with a groan. The sharp pain frombefore had muted to a dull ache. He shifted on the firm pallet, sending a flareof pain up his side. He resolved to never move again.
“Don’t you ever do that to me again!” Astrid sat beside him, watching over her boyfriend with a worried smile. She brushed away the straylock of hair that had fallen across Hiccup’s forehead.
“I didn’t do anything,” Hiccup mumbled. “You’re the one whodropped me in a tree.”
“I’m sorry.”
Hiccup flapped his hand lazily. “You’re forgiven.” He toldher. “So can we go now? Because my bed at home is much more comfortable thanthis one.”
“Only if you promise to stay in it,” Astrid warned.
“You can stay in it too,” he smirked.
“Hiccup!” Astrid shot a glance at the healer, who Hiccupdidn’t seem to realise was present. From where he lay, Hiccup followed her gaze.
Shooting upright with his hand clutched to his chest, Hiccupstared at Gothi with wide eyes.
The tiny woman chuckled and waved the two Vikings away.
“The Gods hate me,” the young Chief complained. Astridhelped him up and over to where Toothless was waiting anxiously. She gaveHiccup an amused smile and waited for him to settle himself in the saddle.
“The Gods can be fickle,” she told him. “But I’m not and Ilike you very much.”
“Thank Thor for small mercies.” Hiccup pretended to groanwhen Astrid smacked him lightly on his uninjured shoulder.
“Though why I likeyou will always be a wonder.” She wrapped her arms around Hiccup just as Toothlesslaunched into the air, headed for home.

Chapter 14 is finally up
Stoick led the way to Hiccup’s room.
He’d left Astrid alone in the waiting area to see if his son was awake. He’d returned soon after checking that Hiccup wanted the company and she’d had to quickly scrub away the tears that had managed to escape before she got herself under control.
Stoick paused by the door.
“I’m going to get something to eat,” he told the girl. “You’ll stay here ‘til I return?”
Astrid nodded and stepped over the threshold.

A/N: I saw this video recently, and it inspired me to write this. I hope you enjoy.
Also, I know I’m a little behind on Blind Spots. I decided to switch two chapters around, so the one I thought was gonna come next was mostly written already, and I had to switch to a different chapter to write. I hope to post it by the end of this week.

“The referee blows his whistle! It’s time for intermission, with the Dragons leading 2-1 over the Vikings! Get your drinks and snacks, because it’s gonna be another exciting half in about 20 minutes!” the announcer’s voice echoed through the stadium. All around Astrid Dragons supporters cheered for their team, before getting up to go to the bathroom or grab some soda. The big screens stopped showing the field, and instead started playing commercials for beer and cars.
“You want a drink?” Astrid asked her boyfriend, the rush of the game still racing through her veins.
No response.

Growth Spurt
“I’m going to hide that leg where you’ll never find it,” Astrid announced, crossing her arms. “Then you’ll have to build yourself a new one. A better one.”
Hiccup sighed in exasperation, hobbling around his house as he tried to deny the amount of discomfort he was really in.
He had gone through a growth spurt, and his prosthetic leg was suddenly short by at least a couple inches. For about a week, he had only a small limp. Astrid’s sharp eyes had been quick to catch it, but Hiccup had brushed off her concern. He had assured her he would replace the inadequate limb before his gait got any worse. His excuse was the mounting order of saddles, and Gobber practically breathing down his neck while he worked, insuring he did not slack off or divert his attention to more personal projects. For a time, it had ended her nagging.

Songs used: Two Steps from Hell - Dangerous feat. Linea Matthew Parker - Adventure Caravan Palace - Lone Digger (heads up, NSFW content in the music clip) Zack Hemsey - Finding Home (Female Vocal Version - EMW Mix)
Sadly, the timelapse is incomplete, because the late stages of the project involved a lot of rendering and my computer couldn’t handle both that and recording. But the most exciting part, the animation process, is captured here in its entirety. :)

Hiccstrid Short Story: Back In the Saddle
So, like some others in the fandom have mentioned, I’ve been a bit perplexed why in RTTE Astrid has repeatedly fallen off of Stormfly in battle. How is it that the same woman could ride so expertly in HTTYD 2 while doing some pretty intense maneuvers without any trouble?
Then I looked at her saddle in RTTE vs HTTYD 2. Notice a difference?
Major design improvements: different shape, side grips, and a handlebar. This got me thinking… what prompted the additions to her saddle? Here’s my take.
Back In The Saddle
Note: Takes place during RTTE, sometime after the end of S4.
Hiccup stood outside the stable, fingers flexing at his sides anxiously as he stared at the open door. Chewing slightly at his lip, deep in thought, he didn’t notice the curious look he received from the Night Fury beside him. Toothless’ emerald eyes flicked between his rider and the stable, wondering why they didn’t just walk in. It was a beautiful day – perfect weather for flying – and standing there doing nothing was wasting such precious time.
Growing inpatient, Toothless warbled, nudging his snout against Hiccup’s hip.
“Oh, heh, sorry, bud”, he apologized sheepishly, placing his hand on the dragon’s temple. “Just, eh…preparing.”
Lifting one ear in confusion, Toothless chuffed as he blinked owlishly.
Hiccup puffed his cheeks, blowing out a breath in anticipation. “Wish me luck.”

I wrote Hiccstrid drabble, since no one answered my post asking for some, probably because you were all watching the Oscars
Understandable. I wish I could have watched the Oscars. But I couldn’t. So I wrote this RTTE Hiccstrid dribble instead. I didn’t proof read it cause I have an actual history essay to write. I hope someone enjoys it, I’m not much of a writer but it’s fun to write anyways.
Summary: Astrid finds emotions and relationship stressful (I mean, don’t we all?)
Rating: PG. Totally innocentino
Astrid was buzzing with emotion– not something she particularly enjoyed. On the one hand she and Hiccup were… committed, you could say… official?.. Comfortable. Nothing had really changed but something was acknowledged. That felt good, for the most part. Scary, but the good fluttery kind of scary. On the other hand Astrid couldn’t help feel that this was extremely foolish. For one thing, love is a commitment and it’s difficult. She and Hiccup already have so many responsibilities with fighting the dragon hunters, checking in on the Auxiliary team, running the edge smoothly, training new dragons, keeping Stormfly in shape… She didn’t want her emotions to distract her from her duties. Astrid was a woman of honour; a strong warrior always ready for battle. She could not let anything weaken her senses.
Hiccup had already begun to cloud her mind more than usual. It was easier to dismiss thoughts of him when they were just… thoughts. Now they were pure and clear memories. Kissing. Not in the same way as when they were kids. Astrid was thinking of kissing of all things. Kissing Hiccup. Having his arms wrapped around her. Lounging and watching the sunset. Talking, laughing, holding, kissing. It made her feel warm but it also made a part of her angry.
Astrid, you have to snap out of this she says to herself while washing Stormfly. You have work to do and… responsibilities.
“Hey Astrid!” Fishlegs descended into the training area on Meatlug, both looking puffed and pleased. “How was your day?”
“Just fine, Fishlegs.” Astrid tried not to groan. “How was yours?”
Astrid appreciated Fishlegs, but in this kind of mood she did not want to talk to anyone who was as optimistic and smiley as Fishlegs. She knew it was just a mood and she regretted wishing that Fishlegs would leave her alone.
“Pretty good! Meatlug and I were actually doing some training you’d be proud to hear!”
Astrid pulled up a smile, “That’s great!” She tried.
Fishlegs lifted his head and smiled with pride. “MmmHmm. as much as Meatlug and I love relaxing we also have so much to practice! Isn’t that right, girl?” Fishlegs then began to coddle his dragon, who very much enjoyed the coddling. Astrid couldn’t pay much attention. She couldn’t get feelings and images out of her mind. She loved even the idea of holding Hiccup’s hand. It was so casual but so comforting.
Focus!
Astrid continued small talk with Fishlegs, trying to sound encouraging. She’s glad someone was training today.
Their conversation passed with a blur and Fishlegs left for his hut as the sun was beginning to set.
Astrid felt tired too. She and Stormfly had an intense day of training… or at least Astrid tried to train intensely. Her focus was off. She and Stormfly practiced sneak attacks on some Gronckles. While Stormfly got some water Astrid worked on her axe throwing… but she missed more than usual and got frustrated quickly. Later they practiced landing rolls, ensuring for graceful descents onto Viggo’s ships or other quick combative landings. Then some simple yet necessary flying practice.
Hiccup came to her mind every five minutes and it became more and more frustrating until Astrid had to retire early. No point beating a dead dragon.
“I’m sorry i’m not myself today, girl,” Astrid patted Stormfly affectionately as they made their way up to her hut. Stormfly gave a forgiving nudge into Astrid’s palm.
The battle with Viggo and the dragon hunters had been getting more intense. Hiccup was planning day and night, tinkering in his spare time, and pacing when he didn’t know what to do. Astrid worried. She worried about Hiccup’s stress. He always threw himself into everything so completely. Then again, so did she. Was he having trouble focusing as well? What if their relationship hindered Hiccups planning and Astrid’s combat. She could not stomach another failure. Berk, the Edge, the dragons could not handle another failure.
She hated thinking this much.
Should Astrid talk to Hiccup? Explain her concerns? What could they really do about it now? They couldn’t just turn everything off and pretend to be just friends again. No, Hiccup would never go for that and honestly, Astrid wouldn’t want it either.
Besides, they already promised to keep their emotions and overall personal lives out of battle… But Astrid didn’t feel it was working that well… for her. Oh Thor! Astrid sighed. This is ridiculous! Why am I being so…
“Astrid!”
If it is possible to tense up and relax at the same time, then that is exactly what happened whenever Astrid heard Hiccup’s voice… at least as of recent.
Hiccup was down on the Hanger deck. He looked flustered but happy. His brown hair messy, Toothless stitched to his side as usual, and his smile light. Astrid smiled automatically and waved, feeling that warmth again. “See you in the hall for dinner?” Hiccup yelled.
Astrid paused on her smile for a moment. If she said no it would draw attention to herself and… yes, she’d decided she did not want to confront this. It was a phase. She would move into a more normal state soon. Oh gods, but dinner meant everyone else which meant pretending that she and Hiccup were… the same as before?
Hiccup seemed concerned about Astrid’s hesitation. “Sorry… mmmyeah I’ll see you at dinner,” Astrid said quickly and then retreated to her hut. She didn’t dare turn back to see if Hiccup took that as a strange reply.
Stormfly still had lots of energy but Astrid did not. She plumped down on her bed hoping to find a way to calm her thoughts.
Focus, Astrid. Breathe, Astrid. Stop being stupid, Astrid!
Stormfly was restless and began knocking Astrid’s axes off the wall for attention.
“Stormfly!” Astrid sighed, rising from her bed to attend to her dragon. “I’m sorry, girl, I just need a few moments to think. Is that okay?” Astrid patted her dragon affectionately. Maybe she should have taken her for a proper flight, just for fun. In fact maybe that’s what they could do to avoid dinner–
Knock. Knock. “Hello?” Astrid called in surprise. She was less surprised when she saw Hiccup open the door. She didn’t pull off a casual reaction before, she was guessing.
Seeing him brought her some peace… which frustrated her again. Her emotions were at war.
“Hey Hiccup,” Astrid spoke casually and focused in on him.
“Hey, is everything okay?” B-u-u-u-u-usted. Hiccup stepped in the door and began to walk over to Astrid standing by Stormfly in the corner of the room.
Astrid waved her hand down, “Yeah, yeah, just an intense day of training. Feeling strangely out of it. But I was just thinking of taking Stormfly flying.” As Hiccup approached he reached out and grabbed Astrid’s hand. Warmth. And yet, frustration. But also peace.
Hiccup looked tired. His eyes were heavy, his hands were incredibly rough, and his posture was particularly slouched. Astrid began to worry. “I think the real question is are YOU okay? Hiccup, you look exhausted.” Astrid grabbed Hiccup’s other hand and led him to sit on her bed. Hiccup smiled sincerely. Exhausted but happy.
“Honestly, I am exhausted, thanks for noticing.” Astrid smirked. “But I’m also really energized. I’m forming a plan against Viggo and I really think it’s going to work… There’s just a few kinks to work out… and I’m also making adjustments to Inferno and Toothless’ tails-”
“You’re doing a lot, Hiccup. Do you rest?” They continued to hold hands. The room was so breathable. Astrid felt safe and secure, despite her worrying about Hiccup. Talking with him could be as easy as breathing sometimes.
“I think we both know each of us need to rest more,” they both laughed and Hiccup rested his head on Astrid’s shoulder. He sighed into her and she let him. They sat in silence for a moment and then Hiccup lifted his head again. “Why are you trying to avoid dinner?”
“What? What do you mean?” Astrid shook her head and looked straight ahead.
“Astrid…” Hiccup tried to catch her gaze, but Astrid avoided. “You’re not doing a great job lying.”
Astrid tossed her arms, “Stormfly has tons of energy and I thought I’d help her burn it out.”
Hiccup was extremely skeptical. As in, not-having-it-at-all.
“Astrid, you’re stressed too. I get it, but you need to tell me how you’re feeling” He was right. They had talked about that too. Being honest. Not keeping things from each other. The thing is, Astrid struggled to be honest with herself.
Astrid let out a breath and looked at her feet. Hiccup lay a hand on her knee affectionately, waiting patiently. She took another breath and looked forward.
“I had no focus today. Or yesterday. Hiccup, I can’t focus. I just keep thinking about… us and worrying about the future and…” Astrid turned to see Hiccup straight faced and serious. “I don’t want the team to fail and get hurt because of us… or me” Hiccup released a breath and smiled.
“Astrid, you cannot carry this entire team on your shoulders. Neither can I. We are leaders but-” Hiccup grabbed both of Astrid’s hands and they looked at each other. “- but we are a team, Astrid. It’s not all Astrid, or all Fishlegs, or all Toothless, or anything. It’s us.” Hiccup smiled softly and moved Astrid’s bangs from her eyes. Astrid was tense and relaxed again. “I-I love you, sure… but that won’t change how we function as a team. If anything I think our team can only become stronger.” Astrid looked down at their hands and smiled lightly. As she breathed she felt the stress, the weight of the world, the weight of the lives of so many dragons in captivity… if she could just get her hands on Viggo right now she’d–
Hiccup grabbed Astrid’s head lightly and kissed her. Her anger gone, she reached for Hiccup and kissed back. She heard Stormfly grunt teasingly but she and Hiccup did not stop. They had their moment. Finally they released, touching foreheads and feeling each other’s breaths.
“I love you too,” Astrid spoke extremely softly, as though the words were thin ice. Hiccup proceeded to wrap his arms around her and they prolonged their moment.
Nothing was solved. There was still immense responsibility for both of them. But Astrid felt better and Hiccup did to. So they sat there and breathed together, eventually heading down to dinner with the gang. The night bustled with stories and laughs. Stormfly got her energy out by playing with Toothless (yes, yes, how ironic.) The night ended with a goodnight kiss when no one was looking. Hiccup smiled like a goof and Astrid figured she did too. She set her head to her pillow with peace and warmth.
Common, Astrid, don’t get distracted!
“Shut up,” she laughed to herself. “I’m not distracted.”
(I’m sorry for my lack of knowledge of Dragons Edge geography. I’m having trouble picturing it in my mind. :P)
