As you can see, I have more or less survived the fall semester of my sophomore year. It’s been a solid ten days of winter break bliss.
Shortly after finishing my last final on a Friday at 8 AM, I drove home a few hours later with Dang with me in the car. While he was off for a family occasion, I was just home simply to relax. By the end of that same weekend, I returned to San Diego for a couple more days of light fun with friends before we all went our separate ways for the month long break.
Christmas passed quickly this year - or maybe that’s just how it is every time. But I realized that it’s been a year since we had our huge family gathering in the Philippines, even though it definitely feels longer than that. Of course, without the majority of the cousins and our nieces around, it’s a smaller group. That didn’t stop the festivities from being any more or less fun. We just miss each other a lot, especially with the access of social media to see how our holidays are going.
Post Christmas, we went up on Monday at dawn to Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to spend a couple hours in the snow. By lunch time, we found a small Thai restaurant downtown and enjoyed a hefty amount of pad thai, spicy fried rice, sea food soup and Thai iced tea. Originally, we were going to set on a small hike that afternoon to Tahquitz Canyon but we learned there was a payment for going on the trail so we quickly dipped out of that deal. We found ourselves spending the rest of the day walking around downtown, stopping by Coffee Bean for some hot coffee until our check-in time at the timeshare rolled around.
By 10 PM, we all headed off for bed and ended the night fairly early. These last few days have been a repeat of little sleep and full days, so any rest between trips have been more than welcome.
In a few days, we’ll be having another holiday celebration and New Year will arrive. We had plans to go boating and check out the fireworks from the bay in Balboa or Newport, however, there have been reports of high chances of rain for the weekend. It’s been a rainy winter break overall and it hasn’t been light either, which is odd for a Southern Californian to experience I’d say. The boat would have been fun, but I suppose we’ll have to wait another year for it.
On another note, we haven’t filmed our annual music video yet since we haven’t been focusing much on it this year. Hopefully by New Year’s Eve or so, we’ll whip up some ideas and continue tradition.
I can’t believe I’m nearly half way over my winter break. It feels like I’ve barely rested and I already feel the deadlines creeping up on me again. Just a little bit longer, please.
