David Bowie: Cracked Actor (Live Los Angeles ‘74) This is bonkers. In a good way. I’m not usually that into live albums but this is something else. Having started his first foray into dance music and abandoned Ziggy our chap had the problem of an already massive back catalogue designed for rock music. Not a problem, chuck a load of soulful groove at it and hey presto you have Funky Dory. Magical. Bowie inventing the 80’s six years before their time. Some of the song reinventions work better than others - but it captures a moment perfectly. And it is packaged in a delightful triple album gatefold. Yum yum.
