Plagiarism
I knew that plagiarism is using/copying another person’s work or ideas without permission/ crediting the creator. You are allowed to use the work of someone else if you give credits to the author when using his written words and when you have permission from the creator to use the work. You can paraphrase a text by writing it in your own words, however you still have to mention the source of the text. If you want to literally copy the text you have to mention the source/ author in a footnote or hyperlink. But I learnt that you can get suspended at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam if you plagiarism.
Plagiarism
I already knew what plagiarism was, but it was nice to have an extra lesson and “warning” about it. My own experience with plagiarism is from high school and the (I think) hundreds of essays/projects I had to write. At my school, the teachers used a computer programme in which they could detect whether your essay was actually someone else’s, and how much of your words were used in other articles, thus not your own original work. I also had to write some essays in which I made footnotes in addition to the usual source list. From this lesson I learned to check copyrights before I go ahead with an idea/article.
Plagiarism
Never use another person’s words or ideas without crediting the original author or creator, thats what I learned this lesson. I did it once or twice, and I got a bad grade for it, which is logical. Teachers will ALWAYS notice it, always. I don't know how, but i’m never going to do it again. The best thing to do is using your own words. Sometimes is hard to do that, but you just have to try. You don't have to do this when you are writing something that is for your own use. So if you are doing it, don’t forget to show the creator or author in your work!
Individual task week 1
My goal is to create a commercial with my teammates that the viewers, my team and myself can relate to. I want to explore the possibilities in filming and editing, especially since I’m doing Motion. Ideally, I would want the viewers to be amazed and make them remember our commercial as the best commercial of all times.
Individual task week 1
I would like to create a beautiful, identifiable commercial. Something people can’t stop talking about. This could be something funny or sad, but I prefer something funny. Also I would like to film, find out how to create nice shots and choose proper locations. First we have to come up with an awesome concept.
Individual task week 1
I would like to create a nice and original commercial with my group that will make everybody laugh. I also want to improve my promotion skills because I’ll need to promote things very often with Art & Design and that requires practice and a different view on things.
Blog assignment WEEK 1
Bad commercials:
Strato
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iIQxAsK7Go
The product being advertised is an internet webaddress. The commercial attracts my attention because there is a man wearing a ball suit in it and he makes weird facial expressions while looking into the camera. Maybe it is because of the commercial being so weird that so many people know about the product and remember the name of the business but I don’t think it really attracts people to actually buy a web address there. The language that is used to make you want to buy the product is formal and directly into the camera but like I said it does not tempt me to buy a web address by Strato. Even though the commercial is funny and a lot of people remember it, it doesn’t look like a professional business and it doesn't seem like the quality is very well.
Good commercials:
Durex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9YIaY6RlGw
The product being advertised are Durex condoms. The commercial attracts my attention because of the whole happy summer waterballoon vibe it is made in and because of the funny end where the show how strong their condoms are. In the end you see two boys throwing condoms filled with water out of their window on a womans head. They bump off and fall on the street but it doesn’t break, showing you how strong they are and how much they can handle. I think that that is why people would want to buy them, because of the funny commercial and because it shows how much they’re able to handle.
Bad commercial
Yarden:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqEdnPdSvOI
A woman talking about death, that is what this commercial is about. While she is talking about death, there are people crying and praying. The product that is being advertised in this commercial is a funeral insurance. The music and the way she speaks attracts my attention, but in a negative way. The way this commercial is filmed is different than most other commercial and the information is going deep. The atmosphere is cold and depressive, but others might find it beautiful and peaceful. The fact everyone dies and this commercial is open about it, can attract people. This commercial is about something that is going to happen to everyone and that is what makes it true and safe. The women speaks in a serious and clear Dutch language. There is some music playing at the background, but there are not a lot of visual techniques that have been used. This commercial would not influence me to buy the product. Why? Maybe i’m too young for this, but it also makes me feel a bit scared.
Good commercial
Bol.com:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkmFaBI_8K4
This commercial is about christmas and a bunny. The bunny is what attracted my attention. The intention is to let you think the bunny is going to die, but he is not going to die. The bunny is getting a huge hutch for christmas. That makes the commercial funny and interresting to watch. There is not just one product they want to sell (like the christmas lights or the knife), but they want you to rememer and talk about the commercial so people can spread the name of the webshop. You can hear a happy man voice talking. The visual techniques (like the fake snow) are making the commercial pretty and nice to watch. I would take a look on Bol.com to see what they have got.

We Love the Subs Quiznos commercial – Spongmonkey’s
This commercial is about sandwiches from the Quiznos restaurant. The commercial attracts attention by the highly annoying sound of singing creatures that apparently are called Spongmonkey’s. The Spongmonkey’s sing about how much they love the subs, how tasty and how cheap they are. There is absolutely nothing about the ad that makes the product desirable apart from the pictures of the actual subs. The commercial is in English, the creatures sing with a Mexican accent, while playing a guitar. The lyrics are simple and weird. The visual techniques used in this commercial are not really great. The little rat-like “Spongmonkey’s” are horrible, yet funny to look at. They move around the screen. Though hilarious because it’s so bad, I don’t think people will go to Quiznos because of the commercial. I would still go because it’s so weird and I’m kind of curious about the subs now, but not everybody seems to appreciates this commercial.

Pin Reclame met Rob de Nijs
Everybody remembers the PIN ad from Dutch 90’s television. The commercial attracts attention by the exciting soundtrack and photographers saying that “there’s movement.” And seeing a biker from the photographer’s point of view. Then there’s a chase. All the photographers take pictures of Rob de Nijs while he’s on his bike. We then see a couple of headlines in magazines including pictures. Rob de Nijs is trying to pay by card at a gas station but the photographers are still harassing him. He raises his arms and says “Okay, guys you can ask me anything, know everything about me…except for my PIN. We then see another headline saying “Rob de Nijs, pays quickly, safely and simple!”
This is a good commercial because the serious subject is brought to the viewers in a funny way to show that everyone should keep their PIN private. It’s effective, fun to watch and important. The way they filmed this ad and the story is something people still talk about today.
