Warning, I kinda rambled on, a lot. I don’t know if it flows well or makes much sense, but here goes.
First of all, Em said in a tag something like “even just using it to get away from whatever’s bothering you” and it clicked, because the extent to which High'rd Help does this for me is unreal. Over the past few months lots of good things have been taken away from me and I’ll spare you the details but it’s been shit, I’ve lost lots of motivation and, in general, emotion. I kinda had just been floating along, which is fine, but not ideal. Spontaneously watching High'rd Help one day was an amazing decision, because somehow “hey, this webseries seems pretty cool” quickly turned into “I want everyone to watch this, I can’t wait for the next episode, I love everything about it.” What I love is that pretty soon after watching it and following them on twitter, they would actually interact with me! When I had stuff to say about the show, or stuff to ask, or just wanted to yell about something somewhat related, they’d listen. I know it’s a small show, guys, so it’s easier for you than for lots of series but the interaction is definitely what sold me. A lot of the time I’m lonely about what I like and it sort of fades because there’s no one who gets it or wants to listen, but when the writers/the creator of the show have the time to listen to what you have to say? It’s honestly so good. That’s what got me hooked, I’d say, and what made this so important to me. Now, that never would have happened, of course, if I didn’t absolutely love the show, the writers and everything about this series. A lot of the queer rep I’ve been getting has been intense, dramatic and just full of angst which is okay because I tend to like those types of shows but it’s just so REFRESHING to have a series that’s just cute, awkward people living their lives, being so naturally queer and having it be light and funny. There’s an angel. There are problems. There’s upsetting stuff that happens at times but for the most part it’s just light, happy comedy. It’s so refreshing and good!! Not to mention episodes 2/3 times a week. This gave me multiple days every week where I could look forward to watching something I like that didn’t cause me to be upset, that made me laugh and smile, and that I had a mini community that I could share my thoughts about it with. It brought (this is past tense but trust me, it’s not over yet) so much happiness to me in a time where I really needed it, and I’m so grateful. Really, you guys made me smile so much and it was so good. Thank you for this great thing not ending tragically but ending with everyone happy. Thank you for creating it. Thank you for including people with different but real personalities and orientations. Thank you for the pan characters because I can’t even say I really know of a canon pan character outside of High'rd Help, so… yeah. I’ve said this before but thank you SO much to Max, to Olivia, to the cast, to everyone involved in the production, to everyone who supported and backed this series before I had the pleasure to, who got these deserving writers a season 2 that was full of so much pure good. Thank you!!! I’m going to stop now because I think I’ve gotten out most of my actual meaningful words, but if I haven’t, you can certainly expect more. I love you guys, what you created means so much to me and I hope to follow everything you create in the future that I know I’ll love. The end? -Rylan
