Hi! If you’re taking requests I’d like throw a suggestion out for Rookie!Leon
Kind of a crack idea, but reader and Leon have been dating a few months and she finally feels comfortable enough to invite him over for dinner or something one night. But she fails to mention her (BIG) protective dog. I can just see Leon trying to enjoy the evening but the dog is always lurking and watching in the shadows, making him sweat bullets 😂 so he’s making sure to be super respectful.
It’s kind of a dumb idea but it made me chuckle, and you always do Leon such justice when writing him♥️
A protective bodyguard. (Leon Kennedy)
Summary: Leon meets your protective dog after visiting your place for the first time.
Note: I'm sorry if this took so long love, I needed to get the right inspiration to write this properly, it was fun! Thank you so much for your request 🫂💕
When you first invited Leon to your home it felt like a complete victory for him. Not a small one either, a monumental one, the kind that deserved music playing in the background and maybe a slow motion walk. You had been dating for a few months already but somehow this was the first time he was actually going to your place, and in Leon’s mind that meant something important. This was a milestone. A step forward. Maybe even proof that things between you were becoming serious.
The plan itself was simple. Perfectly simple. He would bring takeout food, you would stay inside all day, watch movies, maybe fall asleep on the couch together. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated. Just the kind of quiet day he secretly loved.
He had even picked the food carefully. Chinese takeout, because you once mentioned you liked it during a late night conversation weeks ago. And of course he brought a copy of Star Wars with him, because if he was being honest that part was mostly for him but you had said before you did not hate the movies so he counted that as enthusiasm.
He stood outside your door holding the takeout bag in one hand and the movie case in the other, feeling strangely nervous for someone who had literally faced firearms during academy training. His heart was beating faster than it should have been. He knocked on the door and already imagined how it would go.
You would open it, smile, maybe laugh at the ridiculous amount of food he brought. Then you would pull him inside and kiss him hello like you usually did.
That was the vision.
The door opened.
There was no kiss.
There was no hug.
There was a massive dog standing between you.
Leon blinked.
Then he blinked again.
The dog was enormous. Not big. Not large. Enormous. The kind of animal that made you question if someone had accidentally crossed a wolf with a horse and decided to keep the result as a household pet. It stood there planted in the doorway like a living wall, staring at Leon with the focused intensity of a security guard who had already decided he did not belong here.
Leon slowly looked down at the animal.
The animal slowly looked up at Leon.
The dog’s lips curled just enough to reveal an impressive collection of teeth.
Leon cleared his throat.
“Don’t freak out but I think a bear got into your house honey.”
The dog did not move.
It just kept staring.
It had thick fur, strong shoulders, paws that honestly looked large enough to crush a watermelon if they felt like it. One ear had a small notch on the side, and running across the bridge of its snout was a pale scar that made the whole creature look even more intimidating.
Leon did not even know dogs could get scars like that.
Yet there it was.
Looking like a retired gladiator.
You laughed, completely relaxed, leaning down to pet the animal’s head like nothing about the situation was strange or terrifying.
“This is my dog Leon. There’s no bear, right baby?”
The dog barked once in response.
Not aggressively.
More like it was answering you.
Leon stared.
The dog stared back.
There was something unsettling about the way the animal’s eyes flicked between the two of you. Like it understood the entire conversation and had already formed a detailed opinion about Leon’s presence.
You also called him baby.
You called the dog baby.
You called Leon baby.
Leon did not know how he felt about sharing that title.
“Come on in,” you said casually, stepping aside.
The dog did not move.
Leon gave the animal one careful look. Then he looked at you. Then back at the dog again.
In his mind he calculated at least a thousand ways this could end badly.
“Well,” he said slowly, “I’m just going to assume he’s friendly.”
“He is,” you answered immediately.
The dog growled.
Leon looked at you again.
“You heard that too right?”
“Oh he’s just protective,” you said cheerfully.
The dog took one step closer to Leon.
Leon did not step inside.
Instead he held up the takeout bag like an offering to a powerful forest spirit.
“I brought food,” he said carefully.
The dog sniffed the air.
Its nose twitched.
Leon took the opportunity to slide one cautious foot inside the house.
The dog’s head followed the movement instantly.
Leon froze again.
This was not how he imagined the day would go.
Eventually you grabbed his wrist and pulled him inside before he could reconsider his life choices. The dog followed right behind him, walking so close that Leon could feel the animal’s breath on the back of his legs.
“See?” you said. “He likes you.”
Leon glanced behind him.
The dog was staring directly at him.
Leon was almost certain that was not the face of love.
You led him into the living room and took the takeout bag from his hands while Leon carefully placed the movie case on the coffee table. The dog immediately positioned itself on the floor right next to you.
Not near you.
Next to you.
Pressed against your leg like a furry bodyguard.
Leon sat on the couch.
The dog’s head slowly turned toward him.
Leon gave it a polite nod.
“So,” Leon said carefully, “how long have you had… him.”
“Since he was a puppy,” you said proudly.
Leon looked at the animal again.
It did not look like it had ever been a puppy.
It looked like it had been born fully grown and angry.
You opened the takeout containers while Leon tried to relax. The smell of food filled the room and for a moment the dog’s attention shifted toward the table.
You handed him a pair of chopsticks and leaned comfortably against the couch while the dog rested its head on your lap. Leon watched the way your fingers absentmindedly scratched behind its ears.
The animal closed its eyes in contentment.
Leon tried to lean closer again.
The dog’s eyes snapped open instantly.
Leon leaned back again.
“Okay,” Leon said slowly. “So we’re doing this.”
“What?”
“You and your bodyguard.”
“He’s not a bodyguard.”
The dog lifted its head and stared directly at Leon again.
Leon pointed at it.
“He is absolutely a bodyguard.”
The next attempt happened during the movie. You had moved closer to him on the couch, the lights were dim, and Leon thought maybe the dog had finally relaxed.
The animal had stretched out on the floor nearby.
Leon slowly wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
The dog’s head lifted immediately.
Leon froze.
The dog stared.
Leon slowly removed his arm.
The dog rested its head again.
Leon sighed.
An hour later he tried again.
This time the dog did not even wait for contact.
It simply stood up, walked over, and placed its massive head directly on Leon’s knee.
The weight alone nearly crushed his leg.
Leon looked down.
The dog looked up.
Leon swallowed.
“You know,” Leon said slowly, “most couples have to worry about disapproving fathers.”
The dog huffed loudly.
You were laughing so hard you nearly spilled your drink.
The rest of the afternoon turned into a strange negotiation between Leon and the animal. Every time Leon tried to hug you, the dog intervened. If Leon leaned too close, the dog inserted itself between you. If Leon moved an inch closer on the couch, the dog shifted position like a chess piece blocking his advance.
At one point Leon attempted a bold strategy.
He scratched the dog behind the ears.
The dog allowed it.
Leon’s confidence grew.
“See,” Leon said proudly. “He likes me now.”
Then it sat directly between you again.
Leon sighed.
Later, when the movie ended and the sun was already setting, you leaned against Leon’s shoulder with a soft smile.
The dog was still there.
Still watching.
Leon looked down at you.
“You know,” he said quietly, “I think your dog thinks I’m trying to steal you.”
You smiled without opening your eyes.
“Well,” you murmured sleepily, “you kind of are.”
Leon glanced at the dog.
The dog stared back.
Leon nodded respectfully.
“Fair enough.”
This is what I had in mind writing this btw ↓ 🙈
This was such a fun and heartwarming read! I couldn't stop smiling at Leon struggling against his 'giant rival.' It was so cute and precious. My heart was officially stolen by this piece! Thank you for writing this! 🥰🐕
