I'm so easy to please it's not even funny
stereotypes about people âreally interested in WWIâ are wildly different than stereotypes about people âreally interested in WWIIâ
What to do when cornered by a WWII buff: Brace yourself and take stock of your surroundings. Your first course of action should be to assess the sort of person you are speaking to. Notice any tattoos or personal decorations they might be displayingâhopefully you are already familiar with common Neo-Nazi symbols. If you see swastikas, the numbers 88, 14, or 18, or the letters SS shapes like lightning bolts, then run and/or fire at will. Be very wary of skulls, eagles, German words, and runes; they may be innocent tattoos, but they may also be red flags. Proceed with caution and listen to how they talk about Hitler. If you can determine that the buff is not an overtly far-right Nazi sympathizer, they may have a weird obsession with the idea of a Just and Noble War and have some fucked up ideas about what is good for humanity and/or the natural order. Make a quick escape if they start referring to Japanese people with a single syllable or talk about how Americans were âbetterâ back then. If none of these, you can probably relaxâyou may be talking to someone whose family fled the Holocaust or were forced into Japanese internment camps and took an interest in the period out of necessity and frustration and the immediate relevance to their lives. Look for bags under their eyes or corny science joke T-shirts; you might be talking to a physicist interested in nuclear history. Maybe theyâre fascinated by modern world politics or planes or weaponry.
What to do when cornered by a WWI buff:
Point over their shoulder and say, âHey, look! A collection of depressing poetry by dead gay soldiers!â and run while theyâre distracted. If this doesnât work, brace yourself for a long, dreary explanation of the mechanics of trench warfare or early planes.
Excuse you this is blatant âOKAY BUT ITâS TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF THE DEATH TOLLS ON SUBSEQUENT SOCIETY, THE INTERTWINING OF THE GREAT INFLUENZA, AND THE COMPLEX NATION-BUILDING FROM PREVIOUSLY FRACTURED STATES THAT PRECEDED IT AND EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT ABOUT!!â erasure.
I mean yes OBVIOUSLY also the trenches and the planes and the dead gay poets those are all PART OF THE ABOVE but - !
Look over there! Itâs dead gay poet with deep and complicated feelings about nationality and the Treaty of Versailles!

hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate
BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard (under My Filters) to get rid of it!
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
reblog to help keep the internet less annoying and to tell corporations that try shit like this to go fuck themselves <3
For all my fellow Aussies remember, voting yes in the referendum quite literally means that Indigenous Australians will get a proper spot in parliament. If someone tells you to vote no they are racist, there is no reason why Indigenous Australians shouldnât be allowed in parliament.
Vote Yes!
VOTE YES!!!!!!
also, "the referendum wont do anything" It's gonna do a hell of a lot more than what we've got now I'm telling you right fucking now
if your not Australian please reblog this, reblogging this will help show this to more Australians who will (hopefully!) vote yes. The people who are on the front lines for voting no are incredibly racist.
The referendum is going to be held on the 14th of October. If you are unable to make it that day remember to apply for early voting. This is something incredibly important, please even if you arenât australian reblog this
This is what the referendum is proposing on the Australian Electoral Commissions website, it quite literally is âshould Indigenous Australians have rights?â Voting no means you are aligning with some of the most racist (alive) people in Australia. There is no excuse for you to vote no
Hold up, while I plan on voting yes, let's make sure to be specific. Vagueness is also misinformation.
Indigenous Australians already
Can (must) vote in elections
Can be members of parliament (and are close to proportionally represented)
Are full citizens of Australia, with the usual legal rights (on paper at least, actual results may vary)
We got that far already.
What this is doing is setting up an advisory body intended to advise parliament on issues specific to First Nations, and issues which may arrise from proposed legislation:
From the ABC:
There are currently 110 advisory committees or groups that "develop policies and provide advice on specific issues"Â registered on the federal government website.
(...) such as The National Blood Borne Virus and Sexually Transmissible Infections Surveillance Subcommittee or the Foods for Early Childhood Reference Group.
Each group holds a number of experts in their field
The main difference is this one, unlike others set up for similar purposes in the past, can not be disbanded. Modified, but it will have to exist in some form, subject to more specific rules put in place by the government of the day.
There's a lot of wiggle room there. It doesn't specify how big, what powers, what funding, expertise, or even that it's members must actually be indigenous. It's actual usefulness may well change with the political tides. But it will be harder to undermine without a fuss.
It could be a good step forward if it goes ahead, and future governments remain supportive. But let's be clear and spefic about What's actually up for vote, without exaggeration.

"ough watching a show uses so much electricity" on road sides there are giant electrified billboards that do nothing but show you ads
I work managing lab equipment and I feel like I can hold both "capitalism wastes massive amounts if resources" and "we probably could just clean out the -80C freezer and reuse that one instead of wasting a house's yearly electrical needs per day on a new one" in my head at once

my friends donât understand that they may forgive their boyfriends for treating them like literal shit but i will neverrrr eveeerrrr forgive them or forget! i hate your boyfriends. i want them dead. iâm planning their execution. i never wanna see them again unless theyâre in a photo with the gates of heaven in the background with the text âfly highâ on it and even then iâm gonna say they shouldâve died in a worse way.
