Placing the food beside her once she saw his eyes open, she didn’t have much time to speak to him because Rain ran inside and wrapped her arms around her. Part of her was shocked and the other part was relived that she had finally gotten out of her own way. “You don’t always have to be strong for him.. I’ll do that for you. You are the baby still, you’re his baby, and for that you get to throw fits and you get to be upset. Don’t deny yourself of your rightful emotions, Rai.” Nodding as she placed her hands on her step-daughters face she smiled some. “I’m always going to be here to pick up what you can’t carry, as his wife that is my job and as your step-mom.. It’s my job. Now go hug him.” Giving a smile as she listened to him, Brandy held his hand as she moved to sit beside him on the bed. “It’s not funny, and you’re not dead.” Kissing his forehead, she sighed. “No more stress, I can’t have you going through this anymore.”

As Brandy began to dry off, she heard her name being shouted in somewhat of a panic and it caused her to throw on a shirt and shorts. Guiding herself down the stairs hurriedly, as she saw her husband in what had seemed like a reoccurring nightmare she dropped to her knees and rolled him over to  his side. “Call 911, call 911! Rain I know you are overwhelmed, I need you to pull your phone out from your pocket and call the ambulance.. please.”  She spoke as calmly as she could while reaching for the box on the table and grabbing the tongue depressor. Brandy was smart enough to keep these around the house because although she was great in nursing school, things happen like now. It didn’t take long for the ambulance to arrive to their home, and when it did, Brandy went into strict wife mode. “I need you to pack him some clothes, and myself, I will ride with him. Meet us there, he’s going to be fine. I promise.” As they rode to ambulance, Brandy held his hand and continued to whisper in his ear as they did everything they could. As she sat in the chair beside his bed, she pulled her hair up and began deep in thought. It didn’t stop her from ordering food, one of her habits was nervous eating. Taking the bag she began to eat the fries as the doctor came in to tell Brandy that he would be awake soon. Looking over at her husband, she nodded. “ Thank you..”

“Both of you stop! I didn’t sign up for this bullshit, I am here because I love you, because being with you means everything to me. You think Rain disliking me is the issue? No, it’s that you don’t see the bigger problem here. She’s hurt ok! You are the only person in this world who gets her, the only person who loves her like no one else could. Maybe if I had my own father in my life and not some step-parent, I wouldn’t be able to understand where she’s coming from but I do. I get the pain you feel, Rain. I don’t care if you don’t like me, I will live without your approval, but I won’t live without your father. I won’t..” Placing her hands on Davis’ face, she sighed. “I love you so much.. I really do, but this is something you have to fix. Especially because we had a whole bunch of sex on that vacation and who knows when I could be pregnant.” Deciding to lighten the mood with her slight attempt at a joke, she smiled some and rubbed her thumbs against his cheeks. "I won't go anywhere, I will go shower though, seems like you guys have a lot to talk about." Placing a kiss on his cheek, Brandy placed her keys in his hand and headed to their bedroom to shower.
