         “Haji.” The name slipped out of her lips easily as she walked into the room the other had been playing his instrument in. Her brown eyes moved to look towards his face, her body leaning against the door frame. She always liked the song he played, loved the sound of it. But, tonight she could’t just sit and listen. 

        “It’s time to go. I’m ready. Are you?” She shifted against the wooden frame, eyes shifting to look out the window, staring out into the night. 

eyes are displaced from the strings of his cello momentarily to take in her figure in the doorway. he nods at her question. takes a shortcut in the suite he was playing, bringing the song to an end much sooner than he would have liked. he knows what needs to be done, and while he does not dwell on such trivial desires, haji cannot leave a song without coming to the resolving note.

he packs up his cello quickly and so solemnly, as always. then brings the case to rest on his back before appearing in front of her.  “  saya,  ”  he starts, lifting a hand but dropping it halfway ( repressed the NOTION he had to touch her ).  “  how are you feeling?  ”

it’s that VOICE, it’s always that voice that brings ritsuka back. no matter how far GONE he is. it hadn’t been their first spell battle, no, not by a long shot. but just when he thought he was truly acclimating to his role as a sacrifice, they found a STRONGER pair to fight. and coming back becomes harder than ever before. but he listens to soubi’s voice, latches onto it. and, with his head on soubi’s chest and his eyes forced shut, the pain begins to fade. he knows it’s alright. knows they won. when he’s certain that everything will have returned when he opens his eyes, he does so. 

“  soubi,  ”  he calls out, then proceeds to look up at the other man, expression soft but eyes failing to hide the distress behind them. a hand makes its way to soubi’s throat. fingers trace the letters carved there.  “  are you hurt?  ”  he knows it’s a silly thing to ask a fighter, but he asks it all the same.

bored. sasuke is so bored. kakashi refuses to continue training him until he’s completely healed. which, in his opinion, he already is. he suspects his teacher has other obligations, if the ‘ make out ‘ series could even be called that. if he couldn’t train his body, then his mind would have to do. he needs INFORMATION. if sasuke had it his way, he would have constant tabs on itachi. but clearly things weren’t working in his favor. there was one place, or rather person, whose brain he hadn’t picked in quite some time. the only other person in the village who had just as much reason for REVENGE as he did, whether she acted on it or not. it took half the morning, but he finally locates her.  “  asuka,  ”  he calls out when she’s within earshot. when he’s close enough for discrete conversation, he continues.  “  i suspect you know why i’m here,  ”  he says, brows furrowing.   “  i need information.   ”

“  seimei,  ”  ritsuka calls out to his brother, voice so soft, nearly muted by apprehension. he has convinced himself that the man before him isn’t some sort of ILLUSION. no, he would know his brother’s face anywhere. and in the DARKNESS? he would surely know his voice. he takes a few steps forward, stops when he’s only feet away from his older brother. the closer he gets, the more the apprehension melts away and resentment takes its place. if it’s true, then what does that mean? that he had ABANDONED ritsuka all this time? was it merely his name, his TRUE name, manifesting itself? loveless. the tears begin to well in his eyes.   “  you left me,  ”  is all he can manage to say behind poorly stifled tears.

“  kaneki-kun,  ”  tsukiyama starts. there’s a trill to his voice – one that, if you paid enough attention, is only present when addressing kaneki. he places a hand, gently, on his own waist. eyes examine kaneki. his expression, his clothing, his posture.  “  you know,  ”  he pauses, eyes then returning to the other’s face.  “  lending you my sword would be a lot easier if you were to lend me your trust in return.  ”  it’s a LIE. trust or no trust, it didn’t matter. he would continue doing it regardless. even if kaneki hadn’t asked it of him, he would continue on. now, he is just being SELFISH. hoping to heal his wounded pride, perhaps. maybe he didn’t have a real reason. maybe kaneki’s trust was just something that he wanted.

a quiet sigh leaves his lips. eyes shut momentarily before they reopen and settle on her face. he’s tired, much too tired to react so boldly in ANGER. in its place is a fairly even mix of disapproval and irritation. her determination would almost be admirable, if it wasn’t such a HINDRANCE.  “  go home, sakura,  ”  he says, though he knows it’s in VAIN. he’s not entirely sure what it would take to stop her. something tells him it’s more than he had hoped for. he wonders what that will mean for him, when the time comes. ( though that time wasn’t now. )
