*ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Hiro’s a very expressive person, whatever emotion he’s feeling will be veeeeery obvious to anyone around, if he’s excited, you will know, if he’s bored, you will know

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ She typically sticks to her friends outside of class but it’s kind of hard not to know about the ‘girl/boy genius’ in the robotics classes, she’s somewhat aware of those rumours going about but doesn’t do anything about it (except use it as an ego boost)

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Hiro has AuDHD (autism + ADHD) which makes itself known in a lot of his interactions, the symptoms most prevalent to threads and such are: stimming, infodumping, very little volume control, tone missing him completely and needing a moment or seven to adjust to change

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Hiro’s getting through college with only her scholarship but she is… trying to find a job for when she graduates, motivation’s a little lacking but she’s trying her best

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Fashion and Hiro may as well be strangers, he typically wears whatever’s the comfiest without any regard to how it looks, comfort over literally everything else (you can point this out to him but he won’t really change his thoughts on it)

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Hiro’s been through the throws of depression and grief (Tadashi’s death still haunts her in every part of Redwood Hollow that is Tadashi, she is moving forward in life with the support of her friends) but the wishes of Tadashi, his dreams, are what motivates her to move forward and for him, she will make the world a better place

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Friends: Hiro’s not the most sociable person around but if the effort’s made, he’ll gladly reciprocate. Plus, it gets a little lonely being the only teenager in your friend group

ੈ⚙︎‧₊˚ Bot Fighting: Hiro’s not currently playing any bot fight matches and such but when she was a kid (or, well, younger than she is now), she used to play decently often, maybe someone remembers her from then? Or maybe her robot’s easy to recognise

In the middle of her shift, it was Anna's job to clean up in the ice rink. It was easy work since there was no show that morning. She would grab her broom and standing dustpan to sweep it up. Anna walked up and down the rows of chairs, wiping the handles with a rag to prevent any build up of dust. After that, she went up to the glass windows, lifting a bottle, spraying a window with a cleaner solution, and wiped the liquid off of it.

As she did that, Anna spotted someone on the other side of the rink. This person was someone Anna had never seen in the Amphitheater before. By the looks of it, they were struggling to skate. Now ice skating was one of Anna's special interests; she knew anything and everything about the topic and she could definitely give some pointers.

"Hey!" Anna shouted, waving her arms trying to grab attention. "Do you need any help with skating?!" Quickly turning around, she began searching under the chairs in the front row. There were emergency ice skates she hid for situations like these. "Found them!" Anna excitingly exclaimed to herself when she came across her skates. She laced them up then got onto the rink, skating as fast as she could to help.

Lucky for her, it seemed like she wasn’t the only one around. Unlucky for her, the sudden shout caused him to lose focus entirely and—

“Ow…”

—his grip, falling onto the rink. At least she didn’t fall headfirst. That would’ve sucked. By the time he looked back up, the other was on her way here. Thank goodness.

“Hi! So, not to totally botch a first meeting or anything but how do I get up? Preferably without slipping again?”

Even with the circumstances, a smile made its way onto Hiro’s face. A few mistakes didn’t totally ruin things (how many projects would she have given up on if that was the case?). Still, he’d much rather get up and off the icy ground.

Baking wasn’t usually a two person job. At least, it wasn’t with Hiro. But every rule had an exception and this was one of them. “Thanks for coming by to help! With you here, this should be easier.”

Absentmindedly tapping her fingertips with his thumb, Hiro looked up to the guy who’d been more than happy to volunteer to help him. It wasn’t exactly that Hiro couldn’t do this by himself, it was just that she knew better than to. An opera cake with all its layers alone? That just sounded like a surefire way to get him in the worst, most impatient mood ever.

“Ready to start? The recipe’s right here if you wanna check anything.”

Unlike some people at the garage, Cameron actually enjoyed conversing with the people who came in. It just so happened that GoGo did seem to like this one particular person. But, it was a rather slow day, and Cameron didn't have much better to do other than stand around, so she figured she might as well be friendly. "Ah, right, right. I don't know much about robots, but I'll gladly give them a shot."

Hiro seemed alright, in her eyes. A little young, but then again, who was she to judge? "I'm sure they're really cool," she added, smiling at her. Grabbing a water out of the small fridge behind the counter, Cameron thought for a second and got another, offering it to him. "You thirsty? She might be a while."

“Robots are really cool,” he affirmed, smiling at the other. Hmm, she had footage of every test run but which to pick? Documenting everything made it easier to spot mistakes and celebrate successes. The former was making it a little hard to decide though.

Maybe this one? No, wait, I’m pretty sure I ended up… yeah, threw almost every container in my room that day.

Pro tip: never include anything valuable in your test objects. Ever. “Huh? Oh, water would be good, thanks.” After some more deliberating, Hiro picked out a few that were cool or funny. Usually more funny than cool to anyone else but it’d do.

Had Hiro ever gone ice skating before? Nope! Would she regret it? Still up in the air right now. Did he need help? Absolutely! Getting the skates on was fine enough, walking was trickier but she got there in the end so no harm done. Now, all that was left to do was to… get on the rink…

Holding onto the side bars like his life depended on it, he slowly got onto the rink. One foot first. He almost slipped completely but managed to hold on for long enough. Okay, next foot… If anyone was watching, they’d notice how very uncoordinated she was right now.

Maybe impulse decisions weren’t great sometimes…

Hiro stared long and hard at his phone. Some nice flowers for a friend sounded easy enough until you remember how many flowers there are and how they mean different things depending on where they are. Safe to say coding an algorithm to get the best bunch of ‘em wasn’t the usual move but if it worked, it worked.

Oh, it was his turn in line. “Hi, I want… some yellow roses, sunflowers and a few irises for variety. I think those are all associated with friendship in one way or another or have I fumbled that?”

Class on campus was usually an easy, simple affair. Just go to one of the labs and she was golden. Nothing changed in that regard it was just leaving uni that was becoming a bit of an issue. Turned out going here since he was a kid wasn’t enough to drill every path out in his head. Just her luck really.

After taking what felt like the tenth go around, she turned a corner and—

“Ack! Sorry, uh, you okay?”

Maybe speed walking just wasn’t the best move right now. Whoops.

"You were gonna ask whether I say no or not," Tina pointed out, frowning slightly. There was something ironic in the way that Tina, who was extremely nosey, was also extremely guarded when it came to very silly things. Maybe it was her way of asserting dominance in spite of her tiny stature and being 'a girl' in an upbringing otherwise surrounded by snotty boys.

"If you have to know, I'm rebuilding a treehouse. It's well past it's prime and the storm did a number on it."

Welp. It wasn’t like Hiro could deny her claim. Like recognised like, maybe. At least I asked first? Man, I gotta get better at hiding my curiosity. His smile leaned a bit more towards sheepish than normal and okay. She could defend herself here a bit but it didn’t sound like the other was gonna kill her for it. Hopefully.

His eyes lit up at the mention of a treehouse. Not that he’d ever made one, too busy messing with his gears, but! Still! Treehouses were undeniably cool. “Oh, like a secret hideout? Or is it more obvious?”

Toulouse watched carefully as the other tried a second time. This one was better, certainly. Art was subjective anyway, and this was just a fun piece he was trying, so it didn't really matter where the paint landed. "Yeah, there you go, that's better. But uh, I take it you don't play sports very much, do you?"

It was meant as a lighthearted tease, and he hoped that the other took it as such. "That's perfectly fine, either way. I'm not a huge sports guy, myself, but I do like to play basketball."

Looking to the other, the beginnings of a smile made its way onto Hiro’s face. He rolled his eyes a little. Even so, the smile remained. “Mhm, and next thing I know by ‘like to play’ you mean you’re some big shot star. Not that I’d know, sports aren’t really my thing,” she gestured vaguely to the canvas, “if that wasn’t already super obvious.”

She fidgeted with her hands some. “But I’d be cool with playing basketball with you. If you don’t mind an easy game. That and teaching me what the rules are—the point system specifically. I know the rest.”

Alice wasn't really sure what answer they were expecting. There was a small amount of concern that something could be made dangerous on purpose (but why would you want to?).

"Is it dangerous to animals?" Alice asked. "If it's having trouble recognising trash… whose to say it won't pick up a little mouse?"

“Huh? Oh, that’s not the issue. It can recognise any small animal that looks trash-sized. I’m pretty sure, at least?”

Maybe he should run through the code to double check. For all she knew there could be, like, ten other little guys she wasn’t aware of. It repeated the reminder over and over again in his head to actually remember later. Hopefully.

“Anyways, that’s not the issue. It’s mostly just figuring out the difference between like random trash and someone standing still. I’ve gotten so many rips in my pants because of its automated system…” The last bit was more or less mumbled. The tears did look cool but that wasn’t enough to get over the loss of some of his favourite pants…

Toulouse stood back and watched as they threw the balloon. Not bad, but not great. In the grand scheme of things, it didn't matter really where the balloon landed, but the ideal was not to get paint anywhere else. "That was a decent throw, maybe just a little more oomph next time, yeah? Like this," he explained, taking a balloon and demonstrating. It crashed and burst almost directly in the middle of the canvas, sending a splash of orange paint outward in every direction.

"Here, give it a second try." Toulouse handed over another balloon, and eagerly watched the canvas.

But more ‘oomph’, yeah, sure, that was so specific. Even still, Hiro tried to focus a bit more on how the other threw it. Okay so more strength. Maybe imagining the canvas as a far away trashcan would help? Worth a shot. Literally.

“Right, okay. More ‘oomph’.”

Another shot, this one landed closer to the top of the canvas, spraying the edges some. “That better?”

Tina made an attempt at turning on her heels to see who was speaking, but it sent more things tumbling to the ground. She huffed a piece of hair from her face and frowned. "I'm fine, actually," she lied instinctively. "But if you could just… pick those—" here, Tina gestured with her foot to the fallen objects. "—up for me I won't say anything. I may or may not be rebuilding something."

With the affirmation made (kinda? It sure felt like a ‘yes but keep quiet’?), Hiro quickly picked up the stuff that had just fallen down. Afterwards, he’d offer to pick up her trail too but he should stick to just this for now. Probably. Hopefully.

“Cool, got it. Can I ask what you’re rebuilding?”

If it had literally anything to do with robotics, she could help out! Buuuut a lot of it didn’t look like it’d be for tech so maybe she wouldn’t be very useful right now.

When they introduced themselves, Cameron nodded. She was almost positive that she'd heard the name before. They were some kind of science genius, from what she remembered. "Oh yeah, okay, I got it. Yeah, coding isn't really my thing, but if you need info on speed, I can give it to you in the form of cars," she joked.

"Hey, you've got free will, don't let me stop you. As long as you're not in the way, that's cool with me," Cameron agreed. She didn't see any reason that Hiro couldn't stay. It was slow in the shop anyway. "You're a science major, right? What are you currently working on?"

Laughter bubbled out of Hiro. “I’ll let you know if I ever need a consultant for that.” With her permission, Hiro quickly took a seat nearby. It’d be rude to just go back to coding now, wouldn’t it? Not that he’d be able to get much done on mobile anyways.

She blinked and nodded. “Robotics major, this’ll be the last year ‘til I graduate. It’s a lot of fun, mostly because I get to make a lot of fun robots. Oh, I can show you some if you’d like? Dunno if they’re as interesting as cars but I think they’re pretty cool.”

"Oh come on, does this face look dangerous to you?" Toulouse pouted, gesturing to himself. "Besides, it'll be fun. Now... stand right here, and hold this." He handed the stranger a water balloon, though there was no water to be found inside. The contents would make themselves known soon enough.

"Okay, just- give me a second here..." Toulouse turned his back to set up a rather large canvas. "Alright. Hope you've got a good arm, because if not you're gonna get a little dirty. Take that, and throw it, as hard as you can."

Hiro shrugged, a smile painted with mischief grew on his face. “I dunno, lots of not suspicious looking people end up being untrustworthy.” She raised an eyebrow at him but held the water—no, wait, it didn’t feel totally like a water balloon. What was inside this? She looked over at the canvas and the cogs began turning in his head.

“Got it.” Was Hiro the best at throwing? Nope! Not by a long shot. Was she good at throwing away spare robot parts and modelling things out for his bots? Yes! Just gotta act like it’s like that. The balloon mostly landed on the canvas, it was just that some of that paint also got on him. Maybe he threw it too lightly?

What, exactly, was Arthur fond of? It was a wretchedly difficult question—how could he know, when he had never truly been anywhere at all?

“I’m not sure,” he admitted, his gaze dropping once more to the ground. “My foster family never allowed me out. The only time I ever stepped into the Enchanted Rose Café was to steal a moment of warmth from the bitter cold—” He paused, a flicker of realization crossing his face. “Oh—no, your aunt’s café is the other one in town. I remember now. I met the owner, Adam Legrand, once, before he left for Paris to care for his mother. He owns the Enchanted Rose. That’s… that’s what I meant.”

The words trailed off into a soft mumble, as though he wished he could gather them back.

“Um… couldn’t we just do something you like instead?” he offered, tentative but earnest. “I’m sure I’d enjoy anything new.”

A faint, almost apologetic smile touched his lips.

“My world has always been so small.”

And it had—confined to an attic room above and a basement kitchen below, where his days were spent chopping vegetables and preparing meals for Kai and his foster father, only to be fed whatever scraps remained.

It was kind of strange how genuine Arthur could be while looking like he wanted to take every word back. Like he couldn’t stop the words from falling out but desperately wanted to. Hiro very rarely knew how to react to that sorta thing. So, she tried to focus on what he was asking for.

“Hmmm, alright. There’s a park nearby, I like testing my robots over there. We can do that for a bit…” he trailed off, looking over the many robots he had. Now, which would be the easiest to control… ah-hah! “Here. You can control this guy, this side’s for direction and movement, the other’s for specific actions. You see the stick drawings? That’s what it’ll do with those ones.”

It was a silly little project but it’d hopefully be fun for Arthur.

“Next time, we can try something else, okay? Gotta expand your world somehow, don’t we?”

Tina was taking the bout of good weather as an opportunity to make some progress on rebuilding the tree house (and looking for a lot of distraction). She somehow had it in her head that she would manage to carry double her body weight and height in supplies all the way into the heart of the woods without help, but the trail of objects that followed her said otherwise.

On most days, Hiro could manage his curiosity real well. Too well some might say but, eh, she liked to think she could back off if need be. Today just so happened to be too weird not to. Like, a trail of random objects?

Up ahead, he saw the reason or cause for them. “Hey! Are you rebuilding something? Need any help?” It might’ve been obvious to Hiro that she did, in fact, need help but it was always good to double check. Even if it left an easy to follow trail.

eilonwy smiled and nodded "they are, some of them take their colours when colouring very seriously. we have colours all over the place, they come up in conversation a lot"

"i do, i think that's the optimist in me. i don't think my line of work can have a jaded person in it." she had to stay positive, kids could sense apprehension or negativity "depends on the shade but normally it's along the lines of bravery, power, wisdom and creativity"

He nodded along. Yeah, he’d be going there for colour palettes later. Maybe she’d find something actually visually interesting, colour wise specifically. “Huh, do they have a colour hierarchy or, like, a general top 3 among them all?”

She smiled at the other. That was pretty important in life, Tadashi always said so and, well, hard to argue with him. He always had a habit of being right. “Ooo, interesting. Does it change between shades? Like, what’s the difference between a dark purple and a light purple? Or a bluey purple and a pinkish purple?”
