It was one of those weekends that went by way too fast. Saturday, we took the kids to the small 4-H fair I grew up going to in Michigan. One of my bosses was there with his horses so the kids got some rides and extra time in the horse barn feeding treats to any horse who wanted them. Eleanor was a fan. Jacob was more hesitant, but he loved the ducks. We had fair corndogs, pretzels, and slushees and because we went on the last day, it was $1 day. Each ride was $1 and admission was free. Eleanor got her face painted and lived her best life in Kiddieland. Jacob outgrew all the smaller rides and went on the Ferris wheel then one twisty ride with Andy. He HATED it and was very motion sick. Overall, we had a great time, but it was HOT & 88% humidity so by the time we got home, we all felt worn down and sleepy.
We finished Saturday by making 16 quarts and 4 pints of pickles from the garden cucumbers. Jacob washed the cucumbers, Andy sliced them, I put them into jars and hot water canned them, Eleanor taste tested along the way. It was a cute time doing it all together. Plus I made two jars of pickles garlic for the first time for a coworker who requested them.
Jamie has spent the weekend recovering from the last of his dental work. Itās been a very hard three weeks for him and the hardest part of it has been being HUNGRY. We will all be glad when he is back to himself.
Yesterday my brother brought my niece over to play with the kids. Sprinklers/splash pad/trampoline/sandbox/lunch outside listening to the Frozen soundtrack. Eleanor and Josie had a blast. Then Jacob got his back-to-school haircut, we labeled his backpack/lunch box/thermos and got all his school supplies ready for tomorrow night/back to school night. His last year of elementary is giving me ALL the feelings. I accidentally fell asleep reading my book and took a 3-hour nap? Luckily, I had put ribs in the oven before I fell asleep, so I woke up to dinner done which was a lovely gift from past me to future me.
We watched Howlās Moving Castle after dinner, and it was almost a perfect span of time.
Back to work this morning. Gas line delays. Angry customers. Main truck in the shop for the last 3 weeks? New guy didnāt show up. Itās only 9:28am. What to make for dinner tonight? Our intern leaves for college Friday aka my work load doubles until May or until the owner *finally* hires her replacement.
