The history of Norway

I am a 22 year-old student from Norway and this is my blog dedicated to the history of Norway. Expect a lot of contemporary history (post wwii), but also some older history. Traditionalists/fascists/nazis will be blocked if they follow me

Norwegian Communists protest during the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo by releasing flyers over the audience when George Marshall was given the prize for initiating the Marshall plan. The Nobel representative angrily and calmly said “Communists...” before resuming the ceremony.

Norwegian Labour Party May day poster from 1935. 

Pictured is the future Norwegian Prime Minister Johan Nygaarsvold who led the country from 1935 until the Nazi occupation in 1940. The hammer, clearly inspired by the Soviet hammer and sickle, remained an important symbol for the Norwegian labor movement until the beginning of the Cold War.

This is a picture from an unspecified newspaper of a man named Konghard Glad, a Norwegian volunteer soldier in the Scottish-Canadian battallion who fell in France in 1915 during World War 1

Slik har jeg alltid visst du var så ny og dog med duft av ahner - med gammel glans av gud tsar og nytendt ild i flagg og faner!   Men slikt et rykte du har fått - du slette tid hvor verden hveser! Du er et kjempestort skafott. Du vil forgifte oss med teser. Du er den hele verdens skrekk og viser ikke tegn til skrupler. Du ligger stadig like frekk og skinner med de gamle kupler.   Du knitrer litt med dine flagg, og straks er hele verden redselsslagen: - Nu reiser russebjørnen ragg, Vårherre, hit med dommedagen! Han truer jo den milde fred som hviler over aftenlande, så tistler i den gode sed som spirer efter krigens brande!   La verden vrøvle dagen lang og natten med til verdens ende.
