//happy birthday to my little monster
//.... so kisa’s birthday is tomorrow. do i do something for it or do i continue to let this blog collect dust? decisions decisions.
Guardian (Kisa/Alex)
she blinked with surprise looking back down again messing with her nails. she spoke in a different language how could she be so stupid. she looked up to him briefly before returning her eyes back down to her lap. “i want to go home. will you help me get up and get dressed?” she asked  pulling the blanket away again and turning to sit on the side of the bed.
Alex raised an eyebrow at the very obvious surprised look crossing her face at his words. She hadn’t realized she was speaking in another language, he sighed inwardly; and she wanted to go home…It didn’t seem like the best idea, even less so right now.
The problem was that, if he didn’t help her and keep an eye out for her, odds were she’d try to get out of here on her own.”If I try to get you out of here like that, the staff will kick me out an’ probably restrain you to your bed”, he sighed. “Stay put;I’ll get a nurse to help you get dressed an’ see about releasin’ you under your own responsibility”.
she looked down and nodded. all she wanted was to be as safe as she could be at home. she wanted to lay in her own bed and sleep it off and pretend none of this ever happened. she knew it was wishful thinking seeing as night terrors tended to keep her awake but perhaps if she took something she would be fine.
Guardian (Kisa/Alex)
“i wasn’t muttering incomprehensibly. i told you i was in pain. do you not speak english or something?” she huffed, oblivious to the fact she hadn’t spoken in english. she wiped the blood away from her nose looking down to the blood on her hand. “look they are going to want to run tests. tell me things i already know. i can recover at home. and if you are really that inclined you can stay with me.” she responded wiping her hand off on a tissue beside her bed. “i cant be here because its going to raise too many questions. i just need rest and i will be fine now please, just take me home.”
Alex sighed at her words. “Darlin’, whatever it was you were speakin’, it wasn’ English”, he said carefully. “If I had to guess, I’d say it sounded more like…Eastern European, but I really wasn’ payin’ attention at the time”, he shrugged.
He frowned to her next words, though he could hear her tone well enough; and if he wanted to be honest, he couldn’t be sure there wouldn’t be questions even his elaborate cover up might have trouble smoothing out. “I can’t stop them runnin’ tests, though I imagine they’re done with that for the time being”, he mused, sounding doubtful even to his own ears. “If you really want to go home so badly…I’ll see what I can do; but I can promise you this: you’re not goin’ to be on your own”.

a confused nurse ran in not understanding what was wrong with her other than that she was in pain. the best she could do was give her more pain medication. as she tilted her head up it was apparent that kisa had a nose bleed, blood dripping down her face. “miss, we should get you in to do an MRI. we need to figure out whats going on.” she cooed snapping kisa back to reality. “no. i don’t consent to an MRI. get me stable and leave me be.” she grunted. the nurse hesitantly nodded knowing there was nothing she could do if the patient denied treatment.Â
as more pain killer was injected into her IV kisa began to eventually calm. the frantic nurse was able to breathe a sigh of relief. “if you need anything just call.” she mumbled walking out leaving kisa and alex alone. “i need to go home. weather or not you take me is up to you.” she mumbled wiping her face with a small sniff.
Alex stood aside to let the nurse work, sighing at Kisa’s tone towards her. The woman was just trying to do her job, he thought to himself, but then again…Kisa wasn’t exactly in a cooperative mood right now; very far from that, actually.
He nodded his thanks as the nurse departed with a profound scowl on her face, returning his attention to the patient-who was probably in a bit less pain by now, as far as he could tell.
“Did you jus’ miss the part where you were writhin’ in pain and mutterin’ incomprehensibly jus’ now?” he asked, crossing his arms across his chest.”I get that you don’ like hospitals, Kisa, I really do; hell, not too fond of them myself, either. But can’t you jus’…stay put for a couple of days, till you’re stabilized?I promise I’ll take you home myself”.

“that’s bullshit.” she mumbled wrapping her arms around herself. “i am not the kind of person that has friends. i am not whatever it is you think i am. i’m not whatever you want me to be.” she was uncharacteristically quiet from the stress. the voices in her head grew louder and louder making her cradle her head in her hands with a few soft grunts. she began mumbling and crying out that she was in pain but didn’t realize instead of speaking in english she had been speaking in russian.
Alex merely shrugged at those words. “I’m not whoever or whatever you think I am, either; I don’ think anyone ever is, to be honest”, he said calmly, almost quietly, frowning at the woman’s cradling her head suddenly, crying out. He didn’t know what language she spoke in, but the message was pretty clear: she was in pain.
The thief muttered a curse under his breath, before dashing by her side to push the buzzer that would bring in someone with medical expertise.

she blinked with surprise her mouth slightly a gape. she wanted to retort back. she wanted to yell but she had lost her voice somewhere in the conversation. kisa was by no means the type of person someone would consider their friend. she was abrasive and cruel. she was good at what she did but at the end of the day she spent most of her time alone. the idea that someone thought of her as a friend made her stomach churn with anxiety. she refused to cry. emotions like that made her look weak and let him know that he had won. “what do you want from me?” she asked again looking down  so he couldn’t see her face. her hand ached with pain making her fingers twitch.
He’d braced for the backlash, fairly sure the assassin was about to snap back at him-probably tell him to mind his own business, for one thing-so he was more than a little surprised when she did not.Instead, she looked away from him, as if the sheets wrapped around her were the most interesting thing in the world.
“Nothin’; I know most people want somethin’ or other from you, Kisa”, he sighed at her question, “but I’m not those people. I’m your friend, someone who cares about you”, he shrugged.”I jus’ want you to be alright”.
“that’s bullshit.” she mumbled wrapping her arms around herself. “i am not the kind of person that has friends. i am not whatever it is you think i am. i’m not whatever you want me to be.” she was uncharacteristically quiet from the stress. the voices in her head grew louder and louder making her cradle her head in her hands with a few soft grunts. she began mumbling and crying out that she was in pain but didn't realize instead of speaking in english she had been speaking in russian.

“ why do you care?” she asked crossing her arms. “i’m not an asset to you at this point. why does my life matter to you?” she asked with a glare. she was lucky to not be handcuffed to the bed for her attempt. “this time was an accident. normally you would know if i was trying to kill myself.” she remarked dully. “but since i’m still here i guess all i can do is work.”
Alex scoffed at those words, before he could stop himself. “An asset?I care nothin’ for that, Kisa; never did, for that matter. You’re a friend, someone who’s…important to me an’ I don’ exactly say that sort of thing lightly, you know”, he huffed, nodding grimly a moment later, at her confirming his thoughts.
“Yeah, I imagine I would; if you’re plannin’ to make another, non-accidental attempt…”He frowned, giving her a dark look, “might as well give up. I’m not goin’ anywhere”.

“i am quite good at being inconspicuous. even in hospital robes.” she huffed crossing her arms. she could tell he wouldn’t let her go unless she hurt him to get by. “why do you care? i do just fine on my own. maybe i didn’t want someone to rescue me.” she grumbled laying back in the bed. “what do you want from me?”
Alex nodded with a sigh at those words. “Yeah, I expect you are, actually”, he had to concede, given he had actually seen Kisa in action already. He exhaled as she seemingly gave up, laying back into her bed, though not without looking and sounding pretty annoyed.
“You didn’ do that fine on your own when I found you an’ I figure that, if you wanted to die, you’d have done a hell of a better job of it;you’re a professional, after all”, he shrugged to her next words coolly, still watching her carefully though. “As for what I want from you: how about takin’ better care of yourself for starters?” he continued smoothly.

she raised a brow at the duffel bag crossing her arms. great. wrinkled clothes. she thought though it was more of a thought to distract her from dwelling on the situation. “yeah a clean background until they realize i got the same blood samples as a dead girl.” she remarked looking up to him. “look, i just want to go home. i hate hospitals and i hate caskets. they make me uneasy.” she responded pushing him forward gently to touch her feet to the ground.”will you take me home or am i walking home?” she asked pulling out the IVs from her arm.
Alex took a step back, but reached out to grip her hand gently, preventing her from removing the IVs from her arm. “Have some faith, please; I’m not an amateur, you know”, he smiled faintly. “When I say I’ve taken care of everythin’, I have”, he shrugged. “Now, back to bed with you or…I’m takin’ the clothes away an’ you can try makin’ your escape from the hospital in that lovely patient’s robe; see how that goes for inconspicuous”, he sighed.
“As for not likin’ hospitals, darlin’…I figure no one in their right mind does; but you know what?” he asked with a frown a moment later. “You nearly died; that wins you a lovely trip to this wonderful establishment”.
“i am quite good at being inconspicuous. even in hospital robes.” she huffed crossing her arms. she could tell he wouldn't let her go unless she hurt him to get by. “why do you care? i do just fine on my own. maybe i didn't want someone to rescue me.” she grumbled laying back in the bed. “what do you want from me?”

she crossed her arms and pouted not meeting his eyes. her contacts itched and bothered her but she doubted that they would let her get up to put in eye drops. she blinked in surprise as he recounted the events that were all just black in her mind making her absently look down to her had that had been wrapped in gauze. “kinky. but as much as i would love for you to tie me down dear, i need to get home because once they look at those files its gonna raise some interesting questions id rather not answer today.” she grunted sitting up more. “let me guess, i have no clean clothes just the ones soaked in blood and vomit?” she sighed turning to swing her legs to the side of the bed, feeling dizzy and nauseous.Â
Alex had to chuckle at her words, despite the fact she was not looking at him. “Well, yeah, call me kinky for not wantin’ to see a friend hurt”, he shrugged. “I accept it jus’ fine”, he sighed, as she turned to the side of the bed, intending to get up.
“Don’“, he warned, moving to stop her before she could fully do that; he could see the slow, awkward movement, so unlike her normal, efficient, graceful like a cat self. “No gettin’ up, though I did bring some clothes for you”, he nodded towards a small duffel hanging on the back of the chair he’d been sitting in earlier.
“No one’s goin’ to look at any files an’ if they do…you’ve got a brand new an’ very clean background”, he informed her calmly.”I’ve had it taken care of, don’ worry”.

“maybe it would have been better that way.” she mumbled looking down to her hand. “i need my pills. i’m in pain.” she spoke softly not sure if the pain was real or in her head and the nausea didn’t help either. “alex, i’m fine i want to go home.” she insisted again.
Alex huffed at that remark. He probably shouldn’t antagonize her right now, but…”No,it really wouldn’t have”, he said coolly, rolling his eyes to her next words. “You’re gettin’ medication aplenty, don’ worry; an’ apart from nearly poisonin’ yourself to death, there’s nothin’ else wrong with you”, he informed her, trying his best to sound reassuring, rather than let her hear the concern in his voice; not that he was successful, he was sure of that.
“We both know that’s not true; Kisa,I thought you were dead when I found you, lyin’ in a pool of blood and vomit in your bathroom”, he said as calmly as he could manage. “You’re not goin’ anywhere, even if I have to ask the doctors to tie you down to your bed myself”.
she crossed her arms and pouted not meeting his eyes. her contacts itched and bothered her but she doubted that they would let her get up to put in eye drops. she blinked in surprise as he recounted the events that were all just black in her mind making her absently look down to her had that had been wrapped in gauze. “kinky. but as much as i would love for you to tie me down dear, i need to get home because once they look at those files its gonna raise some interesting questions id rather not answer today.” she grunted sitting up more. “let me guess, i have no clean clothes just the ones soaked in blood and vomit?” she sighed turning to swing her legs to the side of the bed, feeling dizzy and nauseous.Â

by the time kisa woke she had still felt sick. the light was so bright i burned her eyes  and she was somewhere unfamiliar. once she blinked away the grogginess she was able to figure out where she was. somehow she had gotten to the hospital. she thought she had just passed out from drinking but apparently that wasn’t just it. she sat up trying to get her head straight before she tried to make her escape. god knows those doctors would have quite a few questions about the gaps in her files.
Alex smiled at one of the nurses as he passed by the nearest nurse’s station, hurrying down the hall back to Kisa’s room. As it had turned out, there’d been no alternative but to call an ambulance, whether the assassin would appreciate it or not. He’d take her wrath, if she got through this, Alex thought, though he had quite a few things to say to her as well.
He let himself into the room, taking a moment to close the door behind him…and found Kisa sitting up when he turned to look at her; she looked dazed, all color drained from her face, her eyes wide-of course, no surprise there.
“You’re awake”, he smiled at her faintly, trying not to look too concerned-and probably failing, given the way he had found her the night before.”I hope you’re not considerin’ gettin’ up”, he frowned, gesturing towards the various tubes and such attached to her arms.
she looked over alex with confusion. why was he here? she thought to herself. and then it dawned on her. alex had saved her and brought her here. she laid back in the bed turning over and away from him. “i want to go home.” she muttered ready to avoid his questions. god knows he probably had them. she had questions too but unlike him she didn’t want answers.
Alex sighed at her reaction, laying back on the bed and turning away from him. “Yeah, you’re not goin’ anywhere till the doctors sort you out”, he shrugged to her words. “Not goin’ to apologize for bringin’ you here,I wasn’ about to sit back an’ watch you die”, he continued coolly, pausing for a moment. “What the hell happened?” he asked finally.
“maybe it would have been better that way.” she mumbled looking down to her hand. “i need my pills. i’m in pain.” she spoke softly not sure if the pain was real or in her head and the nausea didn't help either. “alex, i’m fine i want to go home.” she insisted again.

she could hear her name being called out but she was unable to move and unable to speak. her vision was black but she could still hear alex calling out to her. perhaps he would save the assassin now lying on the floor in glass and bloody vomit.
Most of the apartment was empty, Alex saw at once; cold too, he noted, checking the thermostat and actually turning the heat on absent-mindedly, before crossing the living-room careful not to disturb anything-force of habit, that, more than anything else.A professional thief never left traces, if he could help it, so it was second nature.
Crossing into the hallway leading to the rest of the house, he paused, spotting the shrapnel of broken glass, small pieces glittering like diamonds on the marble floor.
“Kisa?” he called out again…and then he saw her.
The assassin lay on the bathroom floor, blood and not just that, by the looks of it, pooling around her. Shards of glass seemed to point to her body like an arrow.
The thief muttered a few curses, loud enough for Kisa to hear- if she was conscious, which he wasn’t too sure about-stepping past the debris carefully to crouch by her side, instantly checking for a pulse. Her skin was cold and clammy, the heartbeat hard to find…but thankfully there, faint and fluttering.
He swore again, at a loss for a few moments. He had no idea how to handle this sort of thing, he realized, catching a glimpse of the pill bottle on the sink, more pills missing than there probably should be, by the looks of it.
Get help, reason suggested, but he wasn’t thinking at the moment. He picked Kisa up carefully, trying to avoid the glass, at least- there was no avoiding the bloody vomit-carrying her out of the bathroom and back to the living room, where it was somewhat warmer by now. “Hang in there, darlin’“, he murmured setting her down on the previously pristine sofa. “I’m goin’ to call some help, OK?”Odds were she wouldn’t want to go to the hospital, he winced, but he knew some people who might be able to help. Might.

the doorbell had roused her into consciousness again  but only for a moment. she tried to get up again but her grip slipped from the counter dragging a glass down with her and loudly shattering it into a million pieces. her hand had still been bleeding from punching out the mirror but now the rest of her had minor cuts and scrapes from the shattered glass around her. she shivered uncontrollably, her skin now cool to the touch as her vision blurred and eventually darkened. perhaps the person knocking would leave and she would just die on the floor. at this point she had very little that would make her want to carry on with her existence. luckily for her her head had lolled to the side as she began vomiting blood again.
Well, it would seem Kisa wasn’t home, after all, Alex thought, as his leaning on the doorbell had elicited no results whatsoever. Perhaps she was working or otherwise…the woman did like her liquor and, though it was unusual, perhaps it had just affected her text writing, he thought lightly.
He was turning to leave when he thought he heard something from within. The unmistakable sound of something glass breaking, he noted, clearly audible even without the added bonus of his augments.
Alex wasted no time, nor did he think twice, as he reached for a set of lockpicks in his pocket, deftly picking the lock within a few moments.Another bad sign there, he thought to himself; he had noted how many locks Kisa had  to her door. The place was practically unlocked right now.
Stowing  the picks back in his pocket, he let himself into the living room, closing the door behind him. No alarms rang-yet another red flag there.
“Kisa?” he called out carefully, walking through the living room with all due caution.
she could hear her name being called out but she was unable to move and unable to speak. her vision was black but she could still hear alex calling out to her. perhaps he would save the assassin now lying on the floor in glass and bloody vomit.
