1. Ain’t We Proud {Bandstand} —20k
| @crying-cancer
Louis returned to Manchester in 1945 with survivor’s guilt, no job prospects, and a promise to check on the brother of his wartime best friend who didn’t make it home from the front. Things began looking up when he heard a radio advert for the Tribute to the Troops Song Competition and decided to put together a band of fellow vets, combine their talent and experience, and hopefully rocket to stardom. A Bandstand AU.
2. sweet and lowdown {Nice Work If You Can Get It} ― 13k | @humhalleloujah
“Careful,” Louis says as his hand slips inside Harry’s jacket under the guise of steadying him.
”You dance like a baby deer walks. You really think I’d let you fall and drag me down with you?” Louis teases him, his hand seeking out the inner pocket where wallets are usually kept.
Harry seems to buy it, flashing Louis another sunshine smile. “If I didn’t know better I’d say you were trying to pickpocket me.”
It’s said jokingly, but Louis almost freezes anyway. His fingers close around the wallet and, as they spin around, almost tripping over a coil of rope on the ground, he removes his hand. He slips the wallet in his back pocket and pats Harry on the head with his free hand. “I’d never steal nothing from you, Harry Styles. And that’s a promise.”
Or, Harry is about to be married for the fourth time, Louis’ never been kissed, Niall can’t cook, Liam can’t dance, and none of them are very good at acting.
3. like electricity {Billy Elliot} — 17k | @moonlightlouie
“We’re doing pliés. You all know the exercise. Demi plié, demi — arms in second, grad plié with port de bras down then first and back in second, relevé arm in open fifth, tendu second and again. Lizzie mind your turn out, Tessa soft arms, Emma shoulders and smile! Now in fifth and in the end a relevé hold.”
Louis could hear the words and he saw the others immediately react to them but he neither understood the connection between the movements and the words nor how to do them himself.
He tried to imitate the girl who stood in front of him but he was always two movements behind. In the end of the exercise, when he tried to stand on his toes without holding onto the bar, he felt like this had been a terrible idea.
Or the one where a 12-year-old Louis Tomlinson, an orphaned coal miner’s son in Northern England during the strikes of 1984/85, stumbles upon a ballet class during his weekly football training. Soon he finds himself in dance, demonstrating the kind of raw talent seldom seen by the class’ exacting instructor, Madame Malik, who starts pushing him towards making use of his abilities while Louis struggles with feelings he doesn’t quite understand.
4. paris holds the key to your heart {Anastasia} | @sunshinetour
“I’m Niall Horan,” he introduces himself and Harry grins, pretending he hasn’t known all along. “What’s your name?”
“I… I don’t know,” Harry says, his face flushing red when Louis throws his head back and lets out the loudest cackle.
“How do you not know what your name is?” He asks in between laughs.
“They…” He falters for a second and looks down, ashamed. “They gave me a name at the hospital; Harry. They said I had amnesia. There was nothing they could do about it.”
it’s 1925. st. petersburg is now called leningrad and harry doesn’t remember who he is.
5. Walking on Moonbeams {Once} ~ 40k | @casuallyhl
“I see you here every day, and I never hear you play a song of your own. It’s good; why don’t you play it in the daytime?”
Louis looks back at him and quirks an eyebrow. “People want to hear songs they know, songs they can dance to,” he explains, slightly annoyed. “They don’t want to hear stuff like that. I wouldn’t make any money if I played my own songs. They wouldn’t listen.”
The man looks pointedly at Louis. “I listened.”
Or, Louis is a brokenhearted street musician and Harry is a feisty yet captivating pianist who shows him that it’s never too late for a second chance.
