My New Years resolution is to find and hold a salamander
These leaves remind me of the feeling of crunchy plastic

In the midst of all my schoolwork, plants, and remembering basic human functions, I “rescued” a tortoise.
It was the third tortoise I was offered for free in a week due to owners not having the means to house them. So... meet Tortellini, formerly known as Rudy (rudabega). Full name Tortellini Rudabega Voldetort.
Also for fun, here are some photos of my other two children and my mom’s two dogs. Oakley (Australian Shepherd), Gracie aka chungus or chungy (cat), Bean (Dogue de Bordeaux), and Frank aka sewer rat (Basset)
Also I'm so sorry about your cat :0 I just saw your most recent post. I hope you're doing okay, I know how difficult it is to lose a best friend :((( I lost my cat this past summer. Hope you're coping well D:
Thank you, it was really difficult. I miss him dearly, but I’m happy that he’s not in pain anymore. I’m really sorry that you had to experience the same type of loss. It truly is the worst part of having such a good companion ☹️
Hi!! So I have about 40-50 plants in my lil plant family, and for the past half a year they've gotten infected with fungus gnats. Do you have any recommendations on how to fix it? I've tried neem oil, sand, dish soap/alcohol/water mix, but nothing has worked :(
Gosh, the only thing that has truly helped in that situation for me was letting my plants dry out between waterings/ yellow sticky traps from Amazon. After awhile they disappeared. I also tried diatomaceous earth, but I wouldn’t recommend that.
These are the traps I used, they are very sticky. I just cut them up and laid them on my soil

Sorry that I’ve been absent for so long, but my cat got cancer and recently passed away. Thanks for understanding
So I have this succulent idk what kind it is but its SO big now. Always been really healthy recently the top leaves started getting these black dots. Now leaves are turning black and falling off and top stem is black. Figured I'd turn to tumblr for help!
Sort of sounds like rot from over watering. Can you tell me how much sun it gets, how often you water, if you let the soil dry out in between watering, if the spots are crispy or soft, and maybe even attach a picture if you can?
A nice caterpillar green
I bought a plant from the garden centre a few weeks ago and it has spider mites 😭 it’s transferred to at least one of my plants already. Do you (or anyone else) have any tips or advice on what I should do?? I really really don’t want to get rid of the new plant as it’s a plumeria. It was cheaper than they usually are and I’ve wanted one for ages 😭
I would start off by quarantining your plumeria and any other plant affected. A good rule of thumb for new plants to to keep them away from your existing plants for a week or two to make sure they don’t have bugs. You can even do a preventive wash of the plant with insecticidal soap.
The steps I take when I have mites is to wipe down all the leaves, top and bottom, very throughly and I like to also get the body of the plant. You can use diluted dawn or rubbing alcohol. Some people like to remove heavily infested leaves, but I don’t always do that. Next, wash it in the shower, to ensure I’m not missing any bugs, and to rinse off the soap. I then spray down the entire plant with alcohol two times, I have 90/10 alcohol but you can use a lower concentration. Next I drench that puppy in an insecticidal soap. I like insecticidal soaps because they’re less harsh on my plants than other products. I repeat the insecticidal soap a few times, letting it sit for awhile in between. Last ditch effort, you can use a stronger pesticide or use neem oil. Neem oil tends to clog stoma on plants and is a hot topic in the plant community, many swear by it, many hate it. I’ve never personally used it, but I do have some on hand just in case. If I still have bugs the following days I repeat the process. Typically, I will change the soil out and clean the pot it was in/get a new pot if it’s a nice small pot, but if it’s in a large pot (3, 4, 5 gallon pot) I will only do that as a last ditch effort.
I currently use miracle gro nature’s care insecticidal soap, but I also own garden safe insect killer. Garden safe burnt my succulent leaves, though it does kill mites if you’re in desperate need and willing to risk a little burning.
