Here is an image of me and my band Stone Roots playing at the Watering Hole in Perranporth- it was such a good night and was the first gig I'd say that me and the boys properly let go. Our set is becoming second nature now and that is a nice feeling!! I'm so excited about all this Stone Roots bizzle!
We booked Holly for our wedding on May 3rd to sing both in our ceremony and after during reception drinks. Holly was amazing! We can not recommend her enough. She made our day so special and her voice is beautiful.We had all our guests asking her name after as they were all so impressed by her performance. Her singing during our reception drinks was also a great addition to have, it really created a great atmosphere, and again our guests loved it! We are so glad that we found such a brilliant musician to sing at our wedding. Thank you Holly!

First times...
Isn't it weird to think that at one point in our life we had never opened a door, or dipped our feet in the sea, or made a cup of tea! There's a first time for absolutely everything, and though most of these things go unnoticed some of them seem so significant. Today I did something for the first time, and I am just hoping it wasn't for the last. Today I did my first ever job as a professional session singer.
It's a long story as to how I came into contact with Tim, but the great thing is that it happened, and that he gave me a chance. He makes radio indents (jingles) for a living, and for the last few years he has barely strayed from his four trusty session singers (that being the singers from the Strictly Come Dancing band!). He came about hearing me thanks to local legend Ley Adewole (vocalist in The Grace Notes) and asked if I would be interested in giving some session work a go. I replied with enthusiasm, but thought nothing else of it (you learn not to get too optimistic or excited about potential opportunities in the music business!). Anyway, last weekend I received a text from Tim asking me if I was free this week to go and have a go at a job that had come in. He explained that no matter how good my voice might be, some voices are just not suited to radio jingle work and that this was purely on a trial basis. Again, I did not get my hopes up! I turned up and was lead up to his gorgeous studio in his garden (I know my Dad would be so jealous if he'd seen it, it's what my Dad dreams of I know it) and he explained to me how much of the voiceover and radio jingle industry works these days. It's a world that I'd never really fully considered until today. He explained that he'd got some work through for the Grand Prix that's coming up and played me the tracks. I was expecting (naively and judgementally of course) some cheesy cringey jingle, but what I heard was what sounded like a fifteen second snippet of a chart hit. My respect (and excitement!) rose massively and I just tried to keep my cool. I really wanted this to work out.
Into the boothe I went.

I was having fun, and he seemed happy! After then doing an ad-lib session, and laying down 3 of the same vocal I reemerged from the boothe..
"Do you need to be anywhere today?" Tim asked.
"No? Not until around 3pm anyway."
"Would you like to finish the full job? I'll pay you of course." YES. Could this be the start of something? Who knows, all I know is that I've had yet another experience to convince me to keep going and keep chasing the dream.

This was a wonderful private gig that Hollye and I played at in Cornwall. We were booked to play at a meal in a national trust property and we had the most appreciative audience it was amazing actually. A night I’ll never forget. Judy & Sebnem, thank you.

Stone Roots: Online Launch
A couple of days ago my band and I, Stone Roots, launched ourselves online after months of waiting patiently for the right moment. Well what can I say, the response we have had has been unbelievable.
Within hours we had over 300 likes, had been booked for several festivals and were being shared across the internet. We knew that we were enjoying the sound we were making, but until you open yourselves up to people beyond your friends and family, you can never truly know how it is going to be received. We couldn't be happier with the response, and we are more excited than ever for 2014 and for what this year may bring.

Me and the boys... aka THE BAND
..so I have been trickling bits and bobs of information about the band onto the internet for a while now but I've never fully just talked about HOW FRICKING MUCH I LOVE IT.
I'd never sung as an actual band member before, I'd only ever been a guest vocalist for things like soul and jazz bands. To find myself in a ridiculously tight and talented band is beyond exciting and I just love the music we are making at the moment. We formed in around October and have been having weekly rehearsals (give or take a few weeks for our drummer to go exploring). The band consists of myself on vocals, Chez Jeffery on guitar, Harry Bosworth on Bass and Harry Clemence on drums. On their own they are all ridiculously good musicians, but the three of them have been gigging together for a couple of years now already as part of the band Melodious Funk (an awesome cover band on the Cornwall circuit check them out), so as a three they are incredible. They just bounce off each other- they only have to look at each other and say something obscure like 'We definitely need a bit more BEESH BEESH and a bit less ratataaaaa' and they all do a manly nod and know what each other means whilst I'm left there like an awkward starfish. I'd like to think I've slowly learnt the language, or if not I've made up my own weird ways to communicate with them... a particular favourite of mine is to dance out the drum beat I'm trying to describe. Harry is always appreciative of this...I think. ;) Think Sabrina the teenage witch meets Jack Black and you'll find me somewhere in between. Gurl got mooves. Obviously. :')
Aside from weekly rehearsals, Chez and I write together once a week after school (ahem, yes we both still go by 'school' days..he's a technician and I'm a singing teacher..school still exists in our world alwight!). I've written with a few people before, but with Chez it just works. He just whips out some motherfunkkky riffs on guitar and I jam out some melodies and lyrics and neither of us steps on each others toes and we both really like each others ideas and oh it's just so much fun! We are so proud of what we've written so far and we are still continuing to write every week...I can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been up to! Before we had decided on our name, we had our first ever public appearance at The Nightjar, Truro (AWESOME fricking venue by the way- if you like live music and nice people and lush cocktails this is where you need to be, like every night). For us, a little piece of history was made. We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback and it was just what we needed to kickstart our gigging funtimes.
World, we're coming for you! Well..Cornwall at least. Oh, and we have a name now... I am proud to announce the birth of Stone Roots.
'JUST ME' EP REVIEW: TEAPOT THE CRITIC CAT
"I was so happy to be asked to review Hollys new EP “Just Me”. Any excuse to listen to it is welcome. Right from the first note Hollys voice will transport you to a happy space. Is it folk? Is is soul? Is it pop? I think it ties all three together beautifully. You can hear a hints of Adele and Amy Winehouse as well as the obvious Joss Stone but for me there is a pinch of Sade and Tracey Chapman in there as well. Who ever you think influenced Holly the one thing you cant question is the size of her voice which is massive and the range that is huge. Upload Just Me onto your Ipod and copy it to every playlist. The four tracks on these CD are all killers, there isnt one I dont welcome every time it comes around, however if I was having my paws twisted I would have to single out track 3, With you (Just me) as something special. The love just pours out of the lyrics, the vocal oozes emotion all without a hint of mush or sloppy, its a beautiful track for sure. Like all great Eps Just Me has left me wanting more. Come on Holly whens the album coming?"
