If I genuinely like and value someone and they’re mad at me, I will likely put in a considerable amount of effort to look at my actions and accept the discomfort of trying to fix things. I wouldn’t immediately say “whatever, I just don’t need you in my life anymore”. I would, however, be more prone to have that reaction with someone I don’t care for much. It’s easy to lose someone that you won’t miss.

So it’s hard to not feel like you must not have liked me that much to begin with. It was too easy for you to say goodbye to your own kid. So if and when you come back, pretending nothing happened, I’m going to hold onto these realizations.

After Trump was elected, I had an argument with my biological father about voting for him. My wife and I were understandably upset. He lost it and we haven’t talked since.

Last night I accidentally butt dialed him when plugging my phone into my car. I hung up as fast as I could but the damage was done. He called me 4 times this morning while I was in a work meeting, leaving me this voicemail. Throwing a temper tantrum because he never learned how to cope with big feelings. So, apparently he’s cutting me off. Which is hilarious seeing as I’ve been trying to convince myself to go no-contact with him for years.

I’m sad, of course. This person I’ve been trying to figure out my whole life treating me like that and saying those things. Little me hurts. But mostly, I’m just pissed off. What an immature response from a 65 year old man. As everyone has been preaching for months now, fuck around and find out what happens. See who you lose. Me? I’m just happy to finally have a reason to say goodbye.

Even if you’ve already said it. Say it again. And again. Please. Cause it may seem silly to someone without S.A.D., but it’s actually really reassuring to be reminded of having support even if we were just reminded last week, or last month, or yesterday. It’s important. Really important. Cause the anxiety will often lead us to feel alone, unloved, like the person might go away if we share our feelings, even when we know it’s not true. It’s a million times easier to be convinced by someone else than by our own anxious brains sometimes.

Some lesbians know that they’re gay from a very young age. And obviously that’s a 100% valid experience and one that comes with its own challenges that deserve to be respected. But there are also lesbians who don’t realize until later in life, whether that means late teens, twenties, or fifties. There are lesbians who have relationships with men because that’s what women are supposed to do, and don’t consider that they might want to date women instead, and there are lesbians who realize on some level they’re attracted to women and pursue relationships with men anyway to try and suppress that attraction. There are lesbians who marry and have children with men. And not all of them look back and say “I should have known all along” because there aren’t always clear cut “signs”, even in hindsight. All of these experiences are valid and if you care about lesbians you should care about women who come to lesbianism regardless of the way they got there.
