Bug had left.
Ori had convinced it, somehow, to leave him. To leave his universe, go back to Minato, back to where Ori knew they would both be safe. Back home.
It was a struggle. Bug knew, knew what he was planning, clearly wanted to do nothing except hold onto him as tight as possible, and yet it still tentatively went.
Trusted him to know what he was doing.
...
He knew exactly what he was doing.
It wasn't difficult.
He closed off his universe to all outside parties immediately.
No entry to any other multiversal beings. No one else allowed in. None of the people that had gotten close to him, and that he had selfishly gotten close to.
No one could be hurt by him anymore. His love was the thing that kept causing bad things to occur. He fell as a result of the Father protecting Gabriel from his love, and his love would cause the deaths of Minos and Sisyphus. He was the catalyst.
Minato and Bug wouldn't have the same fate. None of his friends would have the same fate.
Even if that meant he was alone once more.
He was protecting them. This was for the best.
Β· Β· β Β·π€Β· β Β· Β·
It was quiet. Strange, without seeing anyone.
Usually, he was spending all of his time at home at Minato's cabin. Curled up with Minato or Bug, or out with the other people that he had met, that he cared about so deeply.
It was so quiet.
All Ori could do was work. Continue his research, continue working himself to the bone. Trying to prevent the inevitable.
Two weeks.
All it took was two more weeks.
Ori was exhausted. He wasn't sure if exhausted was even the correct word anymore. He was barely sleeping, only resting when he physically passed out. He wasn't eating, it wasn't technically necessary but he felt too sick to even smell most food. His feathers were dull, falling out, dirt and debris building up in his wings.
And yet he kept working. Minos expressed concern, as did the people around him, but he brushed them off, continued his usual work for Minos alongside his own research.
He was in a side room with the door drawn slightly, reading through some old records with his roommate, making notes for Minos who was in the adjoining room, working through his own set of records.
He was just in the other roomβ
Ori thought he was hearing things. Thought he was imaging Gabrielβs voice in the other room, after so many nights of work and paranoia and more work.
He didnβt possibly thinkβ
He stood to grab another stack to work through, peering at Minos out of the crack in the door.
All he could do was watch.
Someone was holding him back as he lunged at the door, a hand over his mouth to keep him from calling out to Minos, warning himβ
He watched, horrified, as Gabrielβ
As heβ
Minosβ head rolled across the floor, landing near the crack in the door.
Ori wasnβt sure whether he was screaming or not.
Β· Β· β Β·π€Β· β Β· Β·
Two weeks.
Two weeks of evacuation, hasty and terrified, Ori and a few others at the forefront of the movement.
Everyone needed to get out. It was a mad rush, a scramble, as angels descended on the city and Minos' body shambled through the streets, attacking and destroying his once beloved city.
Ori was the head of the evacuation team. He was one of Minos' closest, it was no surprise that he was the head of it, and so in Lust he stayed. Greed was the designated evacuation zone. Down to Sisyphus, who could help with relocation from there, many looking to him for the same guidance they had received from Minos.
Ori felt sick knowing Greedβs fate as well. He felt sick watching Minosβ body shamble around the now dead city for two weeks straight.
Every day he checked. Everyone needed to get out of Lust, everyone.
He didnβt leave for two whole weeks. He was the last one out, practically dragged down to Greed against his will. He didn't deserve Greed, deserved to rot in his failure.
But he was forced to rest. Forced to put down his armor and breathe for a moment. Holed up in a room in one of the pyramids, trying his hardest not to think about anything except preventing yet another failure, the fall of Greed.
He needed to prevent it.
Β· Β· β Β·π€Β· β Β· Β·
He had completely forgotten about the multiversal block.
Completely forgotten about the fact it only lasted for a month before dissolving.
Completely forgotten that today was the day it broke down, as he dragged himself back from getting into a fight with a large group of Virtues in Lust, glass embedded deeply in his knuckles and arms with singed clothes, armor nowhere in sight.
He needed to fight. Needed to plan, needed to prepare, needed not to think about anything.
He felt sick.
He hadn't thought about it yet. Refused to think about it, Minos getting killedβ
He refused to break down. He had work to do.
He opened the door to his room, shutting it to just sit down on the floor, resting his head in his hands.

A pistol shot rang out. Then another, and another....
Minato's hand spun that pistol expertly, shooting a virtue down *dead*.
"... C'mon, Bug. Let's check Ori's place."
The machine said to his partner, he came as soon as he heard the block had dissolved. Possibly pinged by Bug itself so they could both go in.
Seeing so much blood, gore, violence on the people of lust ...
Minato knew it happened, it already had happened in his world, though long before he was made. And now he sees the past fresh.
How disgusting some angels can be.
Vile. Disgusting.
He shoots the corpse of another virtue a few more times for good measure before heading towards Ori's room, knocking on it.
"Ori?! Ori, are you in here?! it's Minato!"
He called out,
{ @machine-id-v1 }
Bug was shaking, rattling so bad you could practically hear the bolts holding it together. It had bolted through the doorway the moment the barrier fizzled out, pinging Minato rapidly.
Coins were being tossed rapidly, barely singing in the air before a shot split it in two to shatter a couple virtuesβ cores.
Stupid stupid stupid, why had it let him do this ? Why didnβt it fucking stop him ?! (Logically, the thought creeping in the back if itβs mind trying to push through the animal part of itβs brain thatβs taken the forefront, it knew it couldnβt stop him no matter what. It was always going to be this way. The least they could do was not let him go with an argument.)
[>ANGEL
>ANGEL
>ANGEL]
Its sensors keep going off. The sickening feeling angels used to give it has come back full force, something erratic making it fire rapidly, showering it in blood as virtues shatter into nothingness.
Bug is blitzing past buildings and enemies, careful not to leave Minato behind but also antsy as all hell to find their beloved Ori.
Walking into the aftermath of the fall in its universe was one thing, but seeing it actively with its own sightsβ¦it was horrible.
It stands behind Minato as he knocks, trying to call out Oriβs name but barely getting out a letter before it devolves into a series of chitters and clicks. Speaking was hard when it was so panicked, and it fidgeted with its guns, worried that angels had made itβs way down to Greed already from Lust.
[ @hellsfavoritefallen ]
Ori didn't even get up.
There was no point in moving towards the door. Hallucinations were cruel, the looping sounds of Minato and Bug's voices at the back of crowded rooms, coming towards him in hallways, yelling for him while he fought Virtues with his bare hands.
They were just that. Hallucinations.
Not real.
He had prevented that.
He was keeping them safe from him.
Every absent movement of his hands stung, the glass so perfectly set into his skin in a way that should have made him wince. He lifted his head from his hands to stare at it for a moment, watching the blood pool and drip down his arms, down his hands.
He felt marginally better after picking a fight. A little more normal as everything crashed down around him, standing up on shaky legs and letting his wings drag on the floor behind him as he walked to the balcony of his room, peering out over everything with a dead expression.
He was exhausted.
He missed his partners so much it made him feel sick. He was tired of hallucinating their voicesβ It was cruel.
[ @holywarmachine ]
Yeah, hallucinations....
A hallucination that proceeds to kick open the door, run to Ori, and almost tackle him down in an embrace.
"Ori-! Ori, holy *shit*--- you're alive-! Thank fuck--"
Minato squeezes him a little, shaking clearly.
Ha... A machine that can become shaky with fear and worry....
How human.
{ @machine-id-v1 }
It was worrying them how Ori didnβt come to them was he not excited to see them ?
But then Minato kicked down the door, and they couldnβt help the startled beep that left their speakers. Even so, they quickly scuttled in after him, needing more than anything to see Ori.
It registered the blood on him quickly, the way he dragged his wings and the way he held himself. Minato rushed to hold him, but Bug came slower even though everything in it wanted to tackle him to the ground and not let him up again.
βO-//ORI . .β It couldnβt help the way all its hands came up to him though, grazing against his wings, his skin, nearly flinching away at the blood. Itβs tail curled around the back of them.
βHURT . HU-//URT . NE//EED HELP .?/?? SWARM HE-//E/ELP . SWARM NOT LEAVE . DO-//ONβT LEAVE AGAIN .β
It didnβt want to overwhelm him, but it couldnβt help the words spilling out of it rapidly, accompanied by clicks and chitters and beeps.
[ @hellsfavoritefallen ]
Ori flinched as if he had been shot the second Minato made contact with him. This was cruelβ did he deserve this? His hallucinations had never been physical, did he deserve this turn of events? Was he dreaming? The sting of his hands, of his arms, said otherwise, but he had never hallucinated Minato and Bug physicallyβ
His mask was covering his face, but it was deadpan. No emotion even as his head tipped slightly, glancing between both of... his partners...
It wasn't them. Ori knew it wasn't them, he had blocked them from entering. He was protecting them from him.
His hand hovered over Minato's back, an instinctive move he had tried to bury over the past month, arm dropping back to his side.
This wasn't real.
Bug's hands, Minato's hands, they weren't actually on him.
It was a dream, a hallucination, a nightmare because if they were truly here he had failed, they were in dangerβ
What could he say? There was nothing to say.
[ @holywarmachine ]
Minato flicks Ori on the face, pats his face gently, basically he tries to snap Ori out of whatever he's in, try to get him to realize they're real--
"Ori!! Ori! Wake up! Ori focus! Ori! Ori! we're here! The thing--- whatever you did to keep us out dissolved, we're here! And we're very much fucking real. C'mon, Ori!"
He.
He stares shaking Ori wildly---
{ @machine-id-v1 }
Bug lets out a worried, confused chitter, frantically looking from Minato to Ori and back, as if begging Minato to fix this, somehow.
Their lower hands grazed against Ori gently, trailing down his arm and slowly taking his hand in theirs. Tentatively, they began to try and pick out the little shards or glass the best they could, knowing well enough that the little pieces were from Virtues. Did he just get here ? Were Virtues already making their way down to Greed ? They donβt know. The little pieces they pulled out of him clinked against the floor.
Its upper hands slowly began to reach up, attempting to cup his cheek, clawtips worming just slightly beneath the edge.
βI-//IGNORE ? WHY IGNOR-//RE ? ORI ???/?β
God it shouldβve stayed behind with him. It shouldβve fought to stop him from doing this. They could have figured it out together. Surely, surely ! They could fight, they could take on all of Heavenβ(Be logical now. That is too much, even for us. A man made machine couldnβt slay all of Heaven. But it would have damn well tried if it meant Ori would be safer.)
[ @hellsfavoritefallen ]
This couldn't be real.
Couldn't be happening.
He had blocked them from coming to his universe, he was protecting them, they had no way to be hereβ
He had to be hallucinating. He had to be, he had to. But Bug pulling the glass out of his arms and hands stung, and made more blood pour from the wounds, and Minato shaking him moved his body.
They were real.
They were in dangerβ
He took a few staggering steps back, pulling himself out of their grip, looking between them. He still looked... dead. Tired, wings on the floor, blood dripping patterns onto the tile. Ori looked between them slowly, like it... hadn't fully kicked in yet.
He had failed. Again.
"You need to leave."
His voice was flat. No emotion, none of the affection he still held for them in his voice. He still didn't... feel real, but this was clearly happening. The barrier had clearly fallen, and he needed them to go home back to Minato's universe, before something bad happened to them.
[ @holywarmachine ]
...
After coming all this way, Ori wants them both to just-- leave?
Does he not understand they could've helped? That-- ...
Minato's hand relaxes, walking over slowly to Ori...
... To slap him hard across the face.
"HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK WE ARE?! oh, you wanted to keep us safe? BULLSHIT! YOU'RE BULLSHIT, ORI! Bug and I have fought Gabriel and won so fucking much that we probably could've swept the damn floor here!"
He's pissed. He can't not be pissed. Not until Ori finally gets it.
"Oh, you locked us out because you love us? Well, WHAT THE FUCK ABOUT US?! YOU FUCKING ABANDONED US BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN DAMN SULKING! FUCKING GROW UP AND THINK FOR ONCE! THINK ABOUT HOW WE FELT! THINK ABOUT HOW LONG I SPENT WONDERING IF I'D EVER SEE YOU AGAIN!"
Blood began to drip from Minato's optic, ... He's crying.
"THINK! ABOUT! HOW MUCH WE FUCKING LOVE YOU! STOP WALLOWING IN YOUR SELF HATRED FOR FIVE GOD-DAMNED MINUTES AND THINK!"
{ @machine-id-v1 }

He called out,
{ @machine-id-v1 }

How human.

He opened the door to his room, shutting it to just sit down on the floor, resting his head in his hands.

βOne.. two.. three..β
*She was counting her.. steps?..*
βThree.. four.. five.β
*And, when she said the fifth number, she reached to one of Minato's hands with the whiplash, she seemed aggresive.. But it seemed like asking wasn't an option either.*
[ - @the-supreme-machine ]
Minato whipps his head around, and--
"oh! Hello sister!!"
He seems happy to see V2, though to be fair, he is mistaking her for a different V2...
*Soon, Icarus pressed her gun against Minato's chest, why was he happy?.. It was a trap. It HAD to be. No one else was happy to see her.. no one else apart from her..*
βI am not your sister. I had never been. Now, FIGHT!β
*She seemed desperate from a fight with them, she hated them, he had robbed her so many times.. but was he the V1 she knew?.. Even thinking of that possibility made her tremble, no, all V1's were the same. She was sure.*
"why would I? I don't have reason to fight anymore. I have a stable supply of blood now."
Minato looks at Icarus before walking away, grabbing a fishing rod before sitting at the docks. He casts the line into the lake.
βI-.. Y-you.. don't hate me?.. That's impossible- Stop. Come here and fight.β
*The rage she felt.. Icarus ran to Minato and kicked his back, her optic seemed to be glitching, she was furious..*
Minato beeps, flinching from the kick before stabilizing.
"Why would I?" He repeats, though in response to her surprise Minato doesn't hate her.
"you're not the V2 of my world, or the V2 of another that became my sister. You've done nothing to me, and I've done nothing to you. I am a V1. Not your V1."
βAll V1's are the same. Im sure of it..β
*..She didn't attack now, she looked to the ground, her wings totally dropped, mixed blue and yellow on the mechanical lights that decored them.. Was she.. sad? What was wrong?*
β...β
*Icarus stepped back, away from Minato.. from the truth.*
"they're not, I can assure you. Just like I only know one V2 called Athene, I'm willing to bet a shiny gold coin I'm the only V1 you know who calls himself Minato."
Minato flicks a gold coin in his hand before setting it on the dock. He slides it across the wood to hit Icarus' foot.
"I'm just trying to exist, to live quietly here...*

Minato had boarded the ship, heading over to kelp with a shiny gold coin in his hands.
"is Laika here?" He asks,
{ @holywarmachine }
[*Laika peeks around Kelp and waves enthusiastically at Minato]
It's good to see that you've recovered from the trip
Minato flicks the coin towards Kelp, waving back at Laika.
"yes, I... Wasn't exactly pleased about getting cut in half.... But it's fine now, the damage is healed. The giant blood pool by my cabin helped a lot."
[*She catches it midair and nods]
That's good
> YOU GOT CUT IN HALD D:
> I did, but ... I'm better now!
Minato shrugs, heading into the ship to try and find where the library is.
[*Laika whirrs and waddles after him while Kelp continues checking in husks and machines]
> ohh
> where u going?
> trying to find the library.
> know where it is?
Minato looks around, he did keep an eye on the husks and machines. Unsure if he would be attacked or not.
[*Laika nods excitedly and proceeds to sprint down the hall]
> yeee
> over here
> Alright, lead the way.
Minato quickly sped after Laika,
[*She speeds through a few halls before opening the doors to a large room full of seemingly endless shelves]
> ama says im not allowed to be in this section
[*She wanders off into a deepish section of the library, pulling out a thin journal and passing it to Minato]
> i dont know why tho
> all the writings just weird
> I'll have a look.
Minato takes the journal, opening it up to begin scanning pages.
> I wonder what could be so important to not allow you to see ...
[*It's just smut]
[*It's raw, unfiltered, unbeta'd smut]
[*It's all written a little too well]
> whats inside :D
Minato scans the entire smut, saving it into his data base before closing the book.
Maybe he'll compliment Kelp on her writing later.
> . . . It's just boring nonsense writing.
He lied before putting the book back on the shelves.
> boooo

> also what were u looking for
[*She whirrs curiously and tilts her head, rocking back and forth on her heels]
> I wanted to look at.... Fish books....
Minato felt just a little embarrassed saying that out loud. That it was kinda uncool... But fuck it. He likes fish.
> woaaa
> okie i think all the fish books are with all the other animals
[*She speeds off down another set of shelves before turning back towards Minato and pointing at a massive shelf full of visual guides to any and all sea life]
Minato's attempts to seem cool and nonchalant shatter immediately. He's quickly opening books to flip through and scan rapidly. Everything going to memory.
Scanning and scanning books so excitedly and fast. He only stops when--
Warning. Processors overheating.
Ah. He pauses, steam coming from his head.
