Creating the ultimate stay-cation bathroom
I've been looking at a lot of Air B&B places lately. I want to go on a vacation but work is busy and money is tight and the more homes I look at the more I realize that they're not that different from my own other than the location. I actually live in an area that a lot of people travel to for vacations and I started thinking of ways to make my home have the feel of a vacation home.
Taking off work and not actually leaving is definitely more doable than leaving town.
My bedroom is pretty comfy, there really isn't anything that it needs. My bathroom on the other hand, and my office like I mentioned in my last post are my current projects. Both spaces have become severely neglected in the comfort and decor department.
Bathrooms are interesting spaces, it's a necessity that we spend time in them, but we don't always have the time or want to spend the time in them.
They're easily very neglected, they seem like they're always the first room to become outdated and in need of work and they're probably never as clean as we think they are. Not to mention the smell of clorox isn't very relaxing.
Cleaning though, as we all know is important, something you probably don't do for instance is wash your cloth shower curtain monthly. That's important because even with a liner it could still be getting wet.
(A Side note, close it after you shower to allow it to dry completely.)
You won't be able to relax if your space isn't clean and you also probably cant relax if you're choking on clorox. Solution? I'm a huge fan of Methods Eucalyptus Mint Bathroom Cleaners. They do a wonderful job and there's no clorox smell to suffocate on.
Relaxing in a clean bath has a ton of health benefits and it's a lot easier to do if you've equipped your bathroom for those times when you need calming down most. Lavender, Sage, and Eucalyptus are all scents to help calm and relieve stress.
These beautiful Chi Candles from Etsy come in tons of scents, including Lavender, Sage & Lemongrass, and Eucalyptus Mint.
As with most rooms since I'm a renter I like to replace the hardware because that's the easiest fix for me. I'm actually pretty lucky, my bathroom cabinets are white, my countertops are a light granite, and my walls are white. There isn't that much my space needs to stay clean and light. Replacing the hardware, keeping my shower curtain fresh, and having plenty of organized storage are the key components of a nice staycation style bathroom.
I really like the ikea cart pictured above for my bath items, I can put them in it and wheel it to a corner of the bathroom that's unused to look cute and when I'm ready for a bath I can wheel it over to me by the tub and keep my essentials in it or put a cup of tea on it. It's just perfect!
The electric candles pictured are perfect because you can have ambient lighting without worrying about burning the house down. Real candles are great in moderation, like one. But you don't want a bunch of them in one space as romantic as it looks it isn't practical and it's dangerous. These electric ones are great!
Fluffy towels, and fluffy bath mats are also great. Don't skimp on your towels. You'll regret it later because you'll be buying twice as many, twice as often.
So those are my tips for creating the ultimate staycation, spa style bathroom! Do you have any? Is there anything you like to keep in your space that you find extra relaxing?
Best, Lauren
