“Quinn is such a deeply tragic, lovable guy. I just feel the enormous need for this guy to have someone he could genuinely trust. We all need that. I don’t feel like he ever got that in his life. It’s a weird one, but I grew very close to him. ” - Rupert Friend.

Every Peter Quinn Scene Ever ︱ “13 Hours in Islamabad” ↳ “Fuck!”
QUINN XL ︱ “Uh…Oh…Ah…” ↳ “Eight days.”
FILMS WITH FRIEND ︱ The Boy With the Striped Pajamas ↳ “Goodbye, little man.”
Best scene ever when Quinn takes charge in the ops room when Saul calls in after escaping. But I am curious to know why the writers chose to have Carrie walk into the ops room in her pj's, but had Quinn change into a shirt. Am I overthinking this? As small a detail as it is, I think it makes perfect sense for each character. Did I just answer my own question?
Yeah, I’d say you answered your own question. Carrie doesn’t care all that much about decorum (I mean she’s late for a CIA meeting after a one night stand in the pilot) unless she needs/wants something.
Quinn always had a strong sense of chivalry and formality….

Hi Sydney. This is Miss Nitpicky. Re the most recent GIF set of Q, "You are Blown". This is one of my favorite scenes because, as you said, Q takes charge. Heart eyes! But could you add the bit at the airport when Q says "Fuckin hell", I believe, seeing Sandy on TV. AND could you add the rest of the the final scene where he says "Found him... BUT SEND A SQUAD." You left that part out. Then the camera focuses on C because even she is turned on by Q taking charge. Thanks, Sydney!! 😬
Deleted Peter Quinn Scenes
@lorenabender pointed us to 4PeterQuinn on Twitter who has the deleted scenes on her account, conveniently. (They’ve been around but she had them organized.) Thanks to both of you!
Anyone know for sure which episode this was meant for? The light blue shirt doesn’t fit with Uh… Oh… Ah… but his reaction (tears! 😞 ) would be most appropriate in that episode.
Extras | “Uh… Oh… Ah…”* | requested by anonymous ↳ “I just wanna go back and do everything all over.”
"and occasional brusqueness (”watch yourself” to that one tweeter about vets, for example - SO British)." I don't know if I will regret to ask: what tweeter about vets?. Thanks o_O
It was a rare moment of Rupert testiness and who can blame him considering the timing and the nimwit who took him on? Two days before 6.12 aired Rupert appeared on CBS This Morning and read Wilfred Owen’s famous WWI poem:
Then, this:
Pretty damn dignified, considering.
The original tweeter here seems to have deleted his reply to Rupert but we had record of it from HYH.
To Cherry: Is Friend a common surname in the UK? Thanks in advance!
How common is the surname ‘Friend’ in Britain?
Trust Rupes to have a fairly ordinary looking but actually quite unusual surname. In origin, ‘Friend’ is one of the vaguest of surnames, attached to people connected with someone famous or well known for being amiable. That certainly fits our boy! In England, the densest clusters of people with this surname are in the West country, or Kent, notably NOT in Oxford:
Friends are quite rare in the UK, with just over 7100 people today sharing this name – that’s 117 people in every million! It is even less common in the States, ranking 1930th compared to 1504th in Britain. So, Rupert’s surname is fittingly special. Think I might look into ‘Rupert’ next …

I have a question for the Brits out there. Would you say that Rupert's native British accent has changed over the years? How so? Any and all details would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
[We asked @awisecherryblossomstudent (@FillouAnne on Twitter) from the @notourhomeland crew to answer this. She is a lecturer in English at a university in England, so we think we found the right girl!] *
How lovely to be invited to explore Rupert’s style of speech and its evolution over time!
In a Reddit chat in 2015 he declared, “I can do lots of voices. People think I am a very serious guy but what I REALLY want to do is silly voices.” One thing about Rupert is that he is very interested in language and enjoys playing around with different accents (his Scottish one was amazing in Stryka!). So, looking into the matter of his speech patterns…
The earliest interview I found (for The Libertine in 2004) served as my base, and features a classic relaxed style of speech in the London/Southern England vein. There are many glottal stops (not pronouncing the final “t” in “got,” “part,” or “about”). This continues to be a feature of Rupert’s speech, always mixed with a good deal of emphatic dental pronunciation (for words he really likes such as “exciting,” “create,” “fascinating,” and “dictum”). The standard English pronunciation of “Peter” is with a strong dental “t,” and Rupert generally pronounces it this way. See the post-S6 finale Facebook Q&A, although just once, at the end, he pronounces it the American way! For a beautiful example of “Britishness” listen to him say ‘Peter Quinn packs tuna fish’ in the SAG awards interview from 2016.
But how far is he being influenced by living and working in the States? Generally his accent has remained remarkably unchanged. In terms of vocabulary, he noticeably uses “aeroplane” and “plane” rather than “airplane,” for instance. And he still (usually) says “kind of” rather than “kinda.” While he does use “Americanisms” such as “awesome” and “badass,” these are so widespread that they are hardly diagnostic. More significant is the way he occasionally pronounces words in an American way, such as “moustache” (Standard English is “mus-tarsh”) and “premiere” (Standard English is “premy-aire”) in the 2015 interview for Hitman 47.
This trend continues, so that in his 2017 Facebook Q&A there is an increasingly slack treatment of the medial “t” in “Capitol Hill,” “bittersweet,” “political,” and even “British.” He also uses “gotten” (where Standard English would be “got”). Most dramatically of all, in a 2017 CBS This Morning interview he says “semi-paralysed” as “sem-eye” (Standard English is “sem-ee”). Clearly, even though much of his accent remains unchanged, slowly and surely the edges are being worn off!
* All of the double quotation marks above were originally single quotation marks in @awisecherryblossomstudent’s original draft. Sara didn’t realize it’s the British convention to use single quotation marks. #donoteditenglishteachers! Kinda (ahem, kind of) funny in the context of the post so I left it as is. - Cynthia
