Always a pleasure to do my regular appearance on the BBC's current affairs show for Wales, giving my perspective on the topics that matter most in Wales. This week, covering off initiatives around sustainability, recycling and global best practices in environmental projects. Views are always my own and never reflective of anyone else I may be associated with.
A great honour to be selected to present at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) in CDMX, as an example of global best practice, and present to the next wave of diplomats who will go out around the world to represent Mexico.
I was showcasing how different Embassies around the world can interact with their Honorary Consuls, how they can make the most of our networks and the type of dynamic that can exist as well as which sorts of projects can be possible.
We had a great discussion afterwards including preparing different materials to better equip Mexico's diplomats around the world in how we can all try to communicate Mexico in the best way possible.
I was invited to meet the new team in Wales for the UK Government's Department of Trade in Wales. It was great to understand the priorities and objectives for the new team as they start to grow their presence to support more Welsh businesses to expand. I was able to offer my own perspective as an SME owner and exporter, of the ways in which we can better assist and equip businesses in Wales to consider new markets overseas, in particular Latin America and how we may create the best possible environment for collaboration.
In Mexico City with Mario Delgado, the President of Morena, the current governing party in Mexico.
Mario has worked tirelessly to engage more people around Mexico in politics than ever before and his leadership and support of the President has provided a unifying voice for Morena supporters.
Getting the perspectives of people like Mario is integral to understanding the issues from around Mexico that matter most to Mexicans and thereby in turn how we can better support Mexicans wherever they may be.
Celebrating Mexico Independence Day:
As an Honorary Consul for 🇲🇽, today is a special day, celebrating Mexico's Independence. On this 213th Anniversary, I take the opportunity to wish Mexicans at home & overseas, the best for the future. It is an honour to work with so many talented & passionate people. My journey with Mexico began at the #G20 Leader's Summit 2012 and it has been my great pleasure to reinforce the relationship, with no less than 4 UK Ambassadors in Mexico. Each has taught me so much and brought a HUGE amount of wisdom and insights to their work.
As the Honorary Consul for #Mexico in #Wales, it has been an honour to support the promotion of the tourism, economic opportunity and cultural richness that Mexico has to offer, whilst directly supporting the Mexican community in Wales and working closely with @WelshGovernment
It's been a great pleasure working with different Ambassadors & Consuls of Mexico in the UK: Deseo unas felices Fiestas Patrias a todos nuestros amigos, colegas y colaboradores. ¡Viva México! 🇲🇽
Que este día nos llene de alegría y unidad, y que sigamos construyendo juntos un futuro brillante.
¡Viva México! 🇲🇽
Discussing Mexico with Bloomberg’s European editor, Alberto, and recounting learnings from our trip to Mexico, where I was pleased to take Albterto to Mexico and introduce him to the states of Morelos, Jalisco, Estado de México, Guanajuato and of course to the capital, CDMX. Investing my time in making introductions like these has been one of the most productive ways in helping to positively impact perceptions of Mexico around the world.
Great to spend some time with the multi-talented First Lady of Mexico, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller. Herself a writer, journalist, researcher and academic, it was really great to share in her passion for literacy and in finding new ways in which we can encourage more children to read, and in particular, how we can empower younger women.
I shared my experiences in launching education and skills programmes and we resolved to work together to identify new ways in which we could encourage larger organisations to support this work.
It is always a thrill to be able to support introducing more British and Welsh talent to creating projects with Mexico and to work with Government officials to do that also. Here with multiple businesses from across creative industries, education and hospitality, bridging gaps between Mexico and UK relations.
A great meeting with the British Ambassador in Mexico, discussing upcoming projects, areas of collaboration and shared learnings.
Doing unpaid talks in educational institutions in Mexico is one of the great pleasures I get to do in my spare time. In this one, I am speaking to students at Anahuac, giving them advice on how to grow their ideas and turn them into a reality. We had a presentation, followed by workshops for the students and a question and answer session. I do around 10 talks in institutions like this each year and they range from how to launch a business, through to advice for working in the creative industries or how to get your voice heard.
Participating in the Design Week Mexico. I was curating a group from the UK to know Mexico and likewise select Mexican designers to work with them as clients in the UK. It was fantastic to see so many design friends of mine from across Mexico now working here and collaborating with larger brands.
