On Marriage
Hey, look controversial topic.
So, as Christian, I'm supposed to believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, forever and ever under God. But, I appreciate not everyone sees it that way, and I personally have an issue with the the only-heterosexuals thing (mostly because marriage has become a symbol of love, not sex for procreation, but never mind). To me, marriage can be split up into two distinct types - Marriage Under the Law (MUtL), and Marriage Under God(es)(s)(es), Spirits, Universe Vibes and Chemicals in Your Brain (MUGSUVaCiYB).
The first, MUtL, is paperwork, as far as I'm concerned. It's not about being holy or blasphemous or even in love; it's about making sure that you get the right medicare benefits. And the best deals on your car insurance. And knowing the person you signed a piece of paper with is permitted into the hospital if you are dying - yes, some hospitals will only allow family members to visit in certain circumstances. Partner of 50 years? Sorry, you're not married, come back later (I'm not joking).
It's not about any supernatural being. Atheists get married under the law - not under God because they don't believe he exists. They're free to believe that. My point is that if a heterosexual atheist couple can get a piece of paper that'll give them a tax cut, why should God come into the debate about homosexual couples?
The second, MUGSUVaCiYB, is about God telling you, yes, get married to that person. Or the Universe. Or you looking at a person and knowing that a particular combination of chemicals are being released due to nerve signals in your brain, indicating that your body is telling you that you are in love with said person - or that you want a cheese sandwich (hormones sure are weird!).
It has nothing to do with anyone except you, your partner and the deity/bodily function of your choice. To me, this can't be regulated. It's standing in a place and promising to be with someone until you die, despite what life will inevitably throw at you - not a piece of paper.
I suppose you could bring up the linguistic argument on me, but words change all the time. To give you one that'll make about 79% of you giggle - "boner" originally meant "a foolish and obvious blunder; stupid mistake". Really! I lifted that straight from dictionary. reference.com. And it was used as such only about 100 years ago, in the 1910's. If we can change words like that, then surely we can change them to accomodate people who are, y'know, in love and stuff.
Voices
I'm kind of crazy. I hear voices in my head sometimes.
Before you all start ringing the loony bins, it's ok, they don't talk to me. It's more like hearing conversations at a train station, for example, than creepy things telling me to kill my parents.
--- (continued from yesterday)
I started hearing them when my parents had just got divorced, just before I became a Christian. For a while, I thought they were angels. I don't think that anymore, but I still wonder what they are.
Yesterday I saw something kinda cool that prompted me to write this - apparently when your body senses a lack of reality (your eyes are closed, the only thing you can hear is something like static from a radio), it creates its own. I'm often alone in my end of the house, and I was rejecting reality pretty hard at the time, so I think that's a distinct possibility for the source of the voices.
They've mostly stopped, but I still hear them sometimes, when I concentrate.
On OCs
I find myself one part annoyed, two parts embarrassed when I see a cringe-worthy OC. You know the ones - too many powers, too loved, too angsty, too everything and completely self-indulgent. Annoyed because, c'mon, do they really need to have their own personal chaos emerald? Or be the "secret" element of harmony? Or be half troll (rainbow drinker), quarter human, quarter cherub and the Felt's adopted kid?
I'm mostly embarrassed because it brings back memories. Yep, I put my hands up freely and say I've made awful OCs. Pretty much since I started to understand what a plot was, I did the OC thing. Another Hundred Acre Wood resident. A friend for some obscure T.V. channel host. It wasn't till I got into HP that it got really bad. Quadruplets, each in a different house, able to control an element each (Avatar the Last Airbender?) and pretty much centred around the Gryffindor sister. Still, at least all of this stayed locked in my imagination, right?
When I started really getting into fandoms, particularly the Sonic Fandom, I was keen to make my own OCs, but not very enthusiastic about others. So that's what I did. She was awful. I'm not even going to go there, but needless to say I look back and want to burn everything.
Riddled with regret, somehow afraid that people would recognise me and pick on me, I switched handles and avoided OCs like the plague. I actively bitched about them, engrossing myself in Mary-Sue parodies, but never actually reading the legit thing, bar My Immortal. I started reading Homestuck. I read fanfiction - still mostly avoiding OCs, but being surprised when I stumbled upon some wonderful fics that did OCs nicely - a Dave/Jade fic from the perspective of some poor random, a post-Sburb fic where an OC tried to break up with Jade (he failed and succeeded in equal measure). That was me slowly coming to accept OCs. I started watching MLP:FIM - and by extension, reading fanfic. There I saw not OCs, but background characters reinvented and given personality by the sheer force of the fandom.
I'm now tentatively prodding my old Sonic OCs, seeing if there's anything that can be salvaged. I still like some of the concepts, but there's a lot of remoulding and background changes to be done. And that's fine.
So, basically I've learnt that OCs are not evil things that should be avoided at all costs, but they shouldn't be used to fill every single "hole" in a story. Thus, I made a short list of things that I remember when designing OCs for any fandom - though of course, each had their own rules.
1. No romance with canon characters, unless it is the most AMAZING reason in the history of the universe. I actually can not think of a reason this would be necessary.
2. Tag if the story contains OCs as main characters.
3. OCs are characters too. They should be fleshed out as much as a canon character.
W001d you be in need of a towel, miss?

I don't know quite at what point John became Equius, but it's cute anyway.
Not what I thought
She sits. The moonlight illuminates her quills as she sharpens her blade, the hiss created drowned by the thrumming of rain and wailing of sirens. A light starts flickering in the street below; she inhales suddenly, senses on edge for the expected attack. Fool. She remembers herself and does something like relaxing, legs still tucked tight beneath her, but concentrating at the task on hand as opposed to her surroundings. It is three a.m. and she has not slept since the defeat of Ix.
Perhaps it's the noise of the city. Perhaps it's the the constant change of company - the apartment she stays in is more like a Metropolis base for "Sonic and Co" than a permanent home for anyone. Perhaps it's the lingering feeling that should not be this easy, to simply leave behind her people. But Nocturni were never very good at attachment.
---
Shade is a really interesting character, and I'm kind of sad Sonic Team hasn't done anything with her. I had this idea that after Chronicles she joins the Sonic Team as a weapons master, helping train everyone else in their weak areas. She'd be a very ruthless teacher, not afraid to point out bad technique. But she'd have a hard time adjusting to the noisy city and spend a lot of time over analysing things around her - people's reactions to things, popular culture, her own feelings on leaving her tribe and the life she's picked for herself.
So have you ever met anyone you irrationally hate? Really badly? "I wanna rip your face off even though I've known you approximately two seconds"?
Yeah, I get that sometimes. There's this one singer at my church I can't stand, but I've never said a word to her. She's got a lovely voice, but tends to take unneeded risks on stage, I think. I'm probably jealous because my singing never went anywhere but never mind.
Point is, today I hung out with someone I used to irrationally hate, and it was awesome. We're both awkward people, so we actually ended up communicating well. She's not "cool", but the nicest socially-awkward person I know.
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?
BEING AWESOME
The xweetok spotted her prey, tail twitching ever so slightly. She crawled, over a log, under a bush that barely stayed rooted against the whistling wind, paws making no mark on the powder of snow floating around her. The campers had just set down their packs – the perfect time to strike. They’d run, she’d steal their bags, then she –
“Reine.”
The word was caught on the wind, throwing it to the other side of the valley. The two campers, startled, looked up. “Wren?”
“What’s a wren?”
“Or maybe rain?”
“We should go back.”
V moved through the snow as if it were water, to sit next to the xweetok as the campers packed up and left. “What did I tell you?”
“Always brush my teeth.” The normally-cheeky voice flatly answered the serious peophin.
“I have never told you to brush your teeth.”
“You should.”
“I didn’t think you needed to.”
The two stayed for a while, occasionally glancing up at stars that peeked from between grey clouds. V pulled his blanket closer around him. “You know you’ll have to stop when we start getting guests.”
“Yeah. But food?”
A slightly too long silence.
“I have a roof. I have a well. I can find food.”
The wind had died down to a whisper that made the still-falling snow dance. The two stayed till sunrise, till Reine started to see the opening flowers through her body. “Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow.”
She faded for the day while he made his way to the cottage that was home. V wiggled onto the mattress of a bed and dreamt of a world free of helpful ghosts and food to feed all.
---
A short on two of my (neo)pets. They're quite close. Reine's a ghost, so has no need for food or anything, and immortal to boot, but she worries about V as he's not got a job or anything, only owns a house due to squatter's rights and he's going to take on pets as well as stay up all night making sure Reine doesn't get into trouble.
Thought 1
I find it really weird that the only person it should matter to can't see how pretty the tumblr page looks.

So
Hi, I guess.
In case you've managed to find this already, this is just something stupid I've thrown together to house my writing. Some fanfic, lots of exercises. Might actually boot up my scanner and post some art too.
And lots of rants about life and stuff. Cause that's what all the cool kids do.
