Activities to Do During Self-Isolation
i. Read a book. Pick up that one youâve been meaning to read for years. Knock out your TBR pile. Immerse yourself in somebody elseâs world for a little while.
ii. Go for a walk, even if itâs just around your neighborhood. Pop in some earphones and listen to your favorite music or a new podcast. Maybe even try going without earphones and listen to the world around you. Say hello to your neighbors.
iii. Draw. Even if you suck at it, itâs a very calming pastime. Donât worry about how it looksâ just create.Â
iv. Take up embroidery. All you need is a needle, some thread, and some creative spirit. Try it out on an old tee you were thinking about throwing away. And remember: if you mess up, all you have to do is unravel the thread and begin again.
v. Search for some new music, or create new playlists.
vi. Do a puzzle.
vii. Call a friend or family member, or even FaceTime. We underestimate how much speaking to someone we care about and laughing or reminiscing raises our spirits.
viii. Make a collage or dream board. Put it somewhere youâll see every day so youâll always be working towards your goals.
ix. Try baking homemade bread, eclairs, or a four-tier cake. Really push your boundaries and try something youâve never done before.Â
x. Watch a history documentary. Thereâs plenty on YouTube (my favorites are the ones with Lucy Worsley as the host! Sheâs absolutely brilliant and really makes history come alive)
xi. Go through your things and organize them. This encompasses your clothing, knickknacks, toiletries, decor, etc. Set aside anything youâd like to donate and throw away whatever is old and unusable.
xii. Rearrange your bedroom, or even your whole house. Switch around furniture and decor and really think outside the box.
xiii. Deep clean your house. To make it bearable, put on a podcast while you do it (my favorites include Lore, My Favorite Murder, And Thatâs Why We Drink, and Scared to Death). Trust me, the feeling of your house being clean will set you at ease for days to come!Â
xiv. Go on Pinterest. Plan out your future house or apartment, pin some new recipes and crafts to try, and even look up inspiration for holiday decor.
xv. Learn a new language. Completely immerse yourself in it.
xvi. Start watching a new tv show.Â
xvii. Make silly TikTok videos. Or even better, watch them!
xviii. Do card readings for friends and family. Whether itâs tarot or oracle cards, itâs up to you. Maybe even design your own deck.
xix. Build a fort and have a movie marathonâ complete with popcorn, junk food, and tons of sweets.
xx. Play with your pets. They need extra love right now, too.
xxi. Go on interesting websites like Atlas Obscura, All Thatâs Interesting, Mental Floss, Life Hacker, Cracked, etc.Â
xxii. Start your own bullet journal.
xxiii. Play some video games or even old PC games from your childhood. Nancy Drew, anyone?Â
xxiv. Try out indoor photography. Take your time and edit them really well after.Â
xxv. Catch up on your favorite YouTube channels. Make a playlist and just spend the day watching them all.Â
xxvi. Paintâ on a small piece of canvas, on your bedroom walls, on a mug. Itâs up to you.
xxvii. Pair together outfits using the clothes you already have.Â
xxviii. Watch TED videos to inspire yourself.
xxix. Make a cup of coffee or tea and go for a drive. Listen to something soothing and explore your city from inside your car. Get lost, even (just make sure you have some kind of GPS device to use to get back home!)
xxx. Research your family tree. Ancestry.com gives out 7-day free trials, so take advantage of that. Just make sure to cancel it before the 7-days are up or else youâll end up paying a pretty penny!
xxxi. Play a board game.
xxxii. Go through old keepsakes and family photos. Reminisce.
xxxiii. Plan out trips youâll take after self-isolation is lifted. Make a savings plan to achieve it.Â
xxxiv. Spruce up your resume. Post it to some job boards and see what happens. Maybe even apply to some new jobs.
xxxv. Take a nap. The age-old cure for any kind of boredom.
xxxvi. Write letters to your future spouse or children.
xxvii. Go on Reddit and read about conspiracy theories or paranormal stories. Even if you donât believe in them, theyâre still fun to read! (my favorite subreddits: r/conspiracytheories, r/Ghosts, r/Paranormal, r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix, r/timetravel, r/TrueCrime, r/serialkillers, r/UnsolvedMysteries, r/creepyencounters
xxviii. Read some self-help books and take lots of notes.
xxxix. Try learning a new skill, like typing on a typewriter, knitting, gardening, etc.
xL. Learn an instrument, or learn a new song on one you already know.Â
XLI. Learn how to code. Thereâs plenty of free resources on the internet like codecademy or freecodingcamp.
XLII. Take a bubble bath.
XLIII. Pick the weeds out of your yard. Plant some flowers.Â
XLIV. Go for a bike ride or grab your old roller skates and go skating.
XLV. Play Sudoku or chess. Thereâs plenty of digital options!
XLVI. Do your makeup, put on some cute clothes, and try out taking some pics of yourself using the self-timer on your phone.Â
XLVII. Do your budget. Create a savings plan.
XLVIII. Go on your favorite storesâ websites and add everything you like to your cart. When youâre done, go to your cart, laugh at the total, and exit out of the browser.Â
XLIX. Watch your favorite bands and singers perform live on YouTube. Watch an entire concert.
L. Write a book. Even if itâs complete rubbish, you can still say you wrote a book.
LI. Study something that interests you, like art history or anatomy. Take vigorous notes as if you have a super important test coming up.Â
LII. Pretend itâs Christmas-time and pop on some Christmas movies, snuggle on the couch, and drink hot cocoa.Â
LIII. Plan out gifts youâll buy or make for your loved ones come next holiday or birthday.
LIV. Blast some music (so long as you wonât get in trouble for it by a family member or landlord) and sing along.Â
LV. Make a coffee or tea bar in your house.
LVI. Look up new blogs to follow here on Tumblr.Â
