A rebuttal was on the tip of his tongue, ready to lash out at the inconsistencies, to argue, but he kept himself reigned. He could see the precarious situation he was already entangled in and he didn’t want to make it worse for himself. He hated this. He was never strong enough to do what he wanted to do. He couldn’t save Zack, he couldn’t kill his captor, and he couldn’t even save himself. Truly pathetic of him, the blond shivered, biting at his lip, the tic betraying his nervousness.
A niggling thought bothered him though. Was the ex-Commander correct? Would ShinRa believe that he had done it? Would they think that he was Zack’s killer? Somehow, that was even worse than knowing Zack was dead. To be made responsible for his friend’s death while he was held captive by the actual killer… That sort of knowledge made his stomach sink, the pie settling uncomfortably in his gut.
He wished that this could have been solved peacefully, but once he signed his name on that dotted line and signed his life away to the army, peace was something he had denied himself. Military life was harsh but he had done his best, but it was hectic, full of backstabbing and brown-nosing. However, nothing he learned could have prepared him for what was happening to him now.
He bowed his head, his only security, the shadows afforded to him by the hanging of his bangs. No words left his mouth; Cloud was afraid if he tried, only tears would come out and that would have just made it more humiliating for himself. A silent, temporary, submission was what this was. He needed more time to gather his thoughts.
Angeal watched as the boy's expression and posture changed from angry to defeated, as he slowly slumped forward and bowed his head. A grin curled onto his face; this was good progress, his prize was finally learning to submit from words alone, without the threat of physical pain. Beating and injuring him was fun, but for this to truly be successful, he needed the boy to be able to be cut down by just words alone. That was the mark of a true successful submission, and complete and utter control of his prize would follow shortly after.
The escape was unfortunate and an error on his part, but he knew now to keep the doors locked from both the inside and the outside. The visit to his mother wouldn't be a commonly recurring thing, especially as the days ticked by and the chances of Genesis and Sephiroth scouting Banora to find him increased. Whether they'd tell his mother the truth or try to spare her from the knowledge of what her son had done was yet to be told, but his former friends were not stupid. They must have known that he'd come here, because the list of places in the world he could hide were slim. The real question was would his control over Cloud be strong enough when they came? Would he go to them instantly, or fight to stay with his captor?
If Genesis was truly working with Shinra and Sephiroth again (and all signs pointed to yes, that he'd been offered his cure and gone crawling back for it, desperation to live outweighing his usual pride), Angeal had no hope of defeating them two against one in a battle. His prize certainly had immense potential, but he was still just a small unenhanced boy, and they wouldn't be able to work on swordplay until he'd been fully broken in. Time was against them, and Angeal knew that his degredation would only get worse as time went on; pretty soon, fighting would become a struggle.
If Genesis truly was cured, that means Angeal could receive the cure as well, and go back to his life with his friends. Maybe that would have been his chosen path before Zack's death, but now there was no going back. He'd made his choice to kill the puppy, and claim his prize, and it would have to be the path he followed until his death. Genesis had convinced him that their degredation required defection and war against Shinra in the first place, and now he'd gone back with his tail between his legs? What a disgusting betrayal.
His eyes settled on the bruised blonde before him, still staring dejectedly at the floor. "Tell me that you will not try to leave again. Your place is here with me, and I will not tolerate another betrayal."
