my opinion about the pacing of the chapter 1 preview

this is mainly about mhin's route, im not going to mention anything specific but general spoiler warning

Personally I think getting right into the "romance" works for mhin. With a character like theirs (at least in my personal opinion) having a drawn out "will they won't they" is kinda tired and cliche. I feel like it makes mhin stand out that theyre that blatant with their feelings

Also overall I got the vibe that the game was more focused on the plot and angst than the romance. Like the romance and drama with the characters is a given and the real plot is whatever curse or issue the characters struggle with.

And I am a fan of slow burn. my favorite stories/relationships are slow burn. but for the sake of mhin's character im hella intrigued by how sudden their walls break down around MC. It says a lot more about their personality and makes me think theyre putting on a persona and they actually arent that cold and serious

came up with this concept after being disappointed by modern au Vere interpretations

but modern au Vere who was one of those kids who didn't know what to do after high school and got caught up in military propaganda but has since left and now has to find a new purpose in life

am i insane or is there a certain energy *some* people have towards vere that is really mean spirited?

like i dont mean anything based on his canon characterization so far or purposeful angsty/bad interactions for fic plots.

i dont know how to describe it but out of all the characters he seems to be watered down the most into really strange, almost out of character tropes

genuinely has anyone else seen this or is it just me

you can draw any character fat even if they aren’t drawn that way in canon. including women. and you don’t just have to draw the shy reserved woman as fat you can also draw the woman who is confident in herself and her appearance as fat too.

hot take ig but the exile background really isnt that different from the hound background. i feel like you can easily adapt the hound's lore into the exile's template. idk i just feel like the reactions ive seen from the update has been a little much and as someone who has an mc for each background the hound was the hardest to work with cuz i felt like my other mcs were so different from the hound mc

im of the opinion that hound should've been kept. or atleast, i generally dislike the change.

that said, i also think a lot of you guys base your ocs too strongly off canon when your ocs are just that: original characters. rss should try to make exploring the world as mc an enjoyable, interesting, and relatively inclusive experience. but that's it. you can only do so much when writing an mc. your ocs or your mcs are your barbie dolls you specifically crafted to do gay shit. if you're living vicariously through mc, then you're bound to be disappointed right off the bat, even in the 1.0 demo with all the discrepancies in thoughts and demeanor.

i know vns can have a choice to somewhat choose an archetype of personality. my current fave, lost in limbo, gives you about 3 personality archetypes to choose from. but touchstarved doesn't seem to be that! mc is more so a designated role you simply help make decisions for!

you literally are not obligated to follow canon. 3 of my main ocs are so non canon-compliant they're just in their own universe. the other 3 are fucking around faggy style. if your oc is of the hound origin then keep them. again. no one is forcing you to retcon your oc just because rss retconned the bg. it doesn't change the fact that you yourself can think up your own interactions, role plays, and general content.

canon isn't scripture. it's understandably upsetting, but again. why are you letting them dictate the direction of your oc when inevitably the existence of your own unique oc, influenced by your likes and ideas, will stray from canon mc from conception. have fun with it.

edit: i don't agree that the exile is same with the hound because the hound should definitely, atleast in theory, be much more social savvy than the exile... but that's another thing. and not my main point

while i do have my personal takes on the exile vs the hound (which are biased since my alchemist and unnamed mcs are wayyy more developed which is mainly due to my preferences in character archetypes) your main point is exactly what ive been thinking

most of the fun with games like this (and fandom in general!!) is playing with the canon and making shit up. i feel like fandom culture overall has really turned away from this and everything HAS to adhere to canon. and this is really egregious when the media we all love isnt even officially out yet.

theres probably HEAPS of lore we're all connected to and character backstories we've made that will be incompatible with canon

and thats ok! the devs arent going to blacklist people who still want to keep their hound backstory lol

(also character creation is my favorite thing ever so i personally was excited to revamp my character with this new material)
