an unknown fate.

Perhaps an immature farewell.

An unsolicited plea.

Unseen blessings.

A whisper released in agony.

What a pity.

It is silly to say

that holding onto someone’s company

is not the same

as holding onto a pet’s fate.

Yet pets leave their own marks,

their own quiet grudges,

their own way of remaining.

It took longer

to become part of my life,

part of my everyday rhythm,

while she, by nature,

never worried about me.

But I worried about her.

That was selfish.

It was never forced.

Curiosity made me watch over her.

Curiosity turned into pity.

Pity turned into joy.

Joy turned into tears.

Tears into solitude.

Absolute.

It broke determination.

A quiet abomination.

They say silence is deafening.

Solitude?

Abominating.

A piece of my heart

fell apart.

My soul

was caught by surprise

after sunrise,

when I noticed

someone had stolen

that small piece

my heart once fiercely guarded.

She fought,

as only a bird can fight.

As small as she was,

she placed her bid in life.

And with her departure,

she carried away
