MONOFILE - MAMIMI AMANO
VICTIM: Mamimi Amano
TIME OF DEATH: 3:20 AM
LOCATION OF BODY: Hotel Pool
CAUSE OF DEATH: Drowning
For more information, please visit the crime scene for details.
Abnormal Days - Float On.
tw: drowning
3:20 AM. What a time to be awake. Monomi sounds panicked as she tells everyone to report to the pool, and while she does seem to always be in some sort of panic, her reluctance to tell you what the announcement is about can only tell you that it’s not going to be good.
The cool air blowing into the hotel grimly confirms it.
You enter the pool along with your peers, hopefully not too sleepy to notice that the floor is still wet in places. You wouldn’t want to slip, after all!
The first thing you notice is the color of the pool. It’s… wrong. Where the water was once a clear blue, it’s now opaque, black. That’s not all, either. As you approach the water, you can see her.
Mamimi Amano, the Super High School Level Contemporary Novelist, is floating in the pool.
At first glance, she looks relatively unhurt. But other than the water gently rocking her body, she isn’t moving at all. Her face betrays an expression of fear, rather uncharacteristic of the normally loud and abrasive girl.
Mamimi wasn’t well-liked by many people. She wasn’t a very nice person. But had someone disliked her enough to kill her?
[art this week by ollie! thank you very much!]
chapter one | monobear theater | mamimi (re: execution)
She wasn’t watching Takahiro when the collar snapped around his neck. Instead, she was focused on her nails, picking at the already chipped and peeling polish. She looked up when she heard his screams, but by then it was too late. He was already gone.
Dull eyes focused on the screens broadcasting the execution. She didn’t feel much of anything. With the screens in between her and Takahiro, what was happening to him didn’t seem real. It couldn’t be real.
She didn’t look away until after Takahiro hit the spiked ramp. Even with all that blood, it still didn’t seem real. It felt like Takahiro was going to walk back into the room at any moment.
“…Fake. Fake fake fake.”
Even as she muttered those words under her breath, Mamimi knew that what she had seen was real. Takahiro had killed Takeshi, and he in turn had been killed. It was only fair. This was real life, as cartoonish and over-the-top as his death was.
And she was still glad that he was gone. His death hadn’t changed that.
Mamimi made her way to the elevator with the rest of her classmates, sidestepping around the passed out girl whose podium was next to hers. She rode back to Ward One in silence, a frown on her face and an unnameable heavy feeling sitting in her gut like a rock.

WEEK 1… END!
GOODNIGHT…
TAKESHI MORI (IMMUNOLOGIST, AGE 19)
TAKAHIRO YOSHINOYA (SKATEBOARDER, AGE 16)
AND GOOD LUCK!
trial 1.5 | monobear theater | mamimi (re: voting results)
Mamimi didn’t understand.
She got that Takahiro was the murderer, she was fully capable of understanding that. What she was currently having trouble understanding was why people seemed to be showing affection to a proven murderer. It defied all logic.
They should hate him, not feel sorry for him.
At her podium, Mamimi rolled her eyes at the spectacle before her, and then spoke up.
“He’s right. What he did wasn’t okay. He killed someone, and deserves to die.”
She sounded incredulous, as if she could hardly believe that anyone had the audacity to hold a murderer’s hand and baby him in the moments before his execution. He deserved to die. She wanted him to die.
She leaned forward on her podium, and rubbed at her forehead. She didn’t care. She just didn’t care. She hadn’t known Takahiro, and she had no empathy for a murderer.
When she spoke again, her words were bitter, angry.
“Let’s get this over with already. I’m tired.”
Mamimi sighs, "I might as well." She then votes for Takahiro Yoshinoya.
trial 1.4 | mamimi (re: holly)
Mamimi raised an eyebrow at Holly, but didn’t say anything. Whatever. Murder didn’t exactly bring out the best in people.
She might as well divert the attention away from Holly while she could, though. She didn’t care to see the other girl explode again. Mamimi just wanted to finish this trial quickly and quietly without any more complications.
“…As much fun as this courtroom drama is, maybe we should get back to shoe sizes.”
She rolled her eyes at the word ‘fun’ and sighed dramatically.
“Like I said earlier, we can’t incriminate Yoshinoya without finding out who the other set of footprints belongs to. There’s always the chance that Yoshinoya was just an unfortunate witness to the crime, or someone who found the body and didn’t report it. Or, he was working with someone to get rid of Mori. We don’t know yet.”
“Kagome, you didn’t happen to see anyone else leave the hotel around the same time as Yoshinoya, did you?”
trial 1.3 | mamimi (re: takahiro, michiko)
Mamimi frowned and rolled her eyes at Michiko’s sudden outburst. It was true that Takahiro really did look guilty, but there was something they had all missed. Or, two somethings, actually.
“Uh, hello? I’m sorry, I wasn’t even at the crime scene and somehow I seem to be the only person who remembers that there were two sets of footprints. They can’t both belong to Yoshinoya.”
She retrieved her keycard from her coat pocket and jabbed a finger at the picture of Takeshi’s body that had been sent to everyone.
“Also, look at all that blood. I don’t see any on Yoshinoya. Even if his sleeves are bloody, or wet, or whatever… don’t you think the killer would be pretty messy after committing a murder with that much blood?”
She gave the makeshift court a toothy smile.
“And if you still care to know my measurements, I wear a women’s size 22. Not that it could have been me. I’ve been wearing heels since we got here, and whoever made those footprints wasn’t wearing stilettos.”
trial 1.2 | mamimi (re: yuka, holly)
As Yuka shook her sleeves, and a beetle emerged from the tear in her clothing, Mamimi made a small gagging noise and took a step away from the girl. It was just her luck that she had to stand next to the girl who was literally crawling with bugs.
She made another face, not because of her proximity to Yuka, but because she couldn’t quite remember where she was at the moment of the murder. Time had a funny way of blending together when you weren’t paying attention.
“I don’t remember exact times, I didn’t realize my actions would be so important… I think I slept in until around 11:00. After that, I spent a while in the Ramen Shop. No one saw me there, but I left a dirty dish out. That’s proof I was there. Anyways, after that, I went up to the lounge on the 8th floor. Again, I don’t really know times, but I’m pretty sure I was up there when the murder happened.”
“The donuts and missing copy of Pacific Rim that Holly mentioned don’t have anything to do with the murder. I ate the donuts and watched the movie.”
“Anyways, I highly doubt that the dolls were meant to frame you. You’re right, it does sort of seem like a threat. We should try to figure out who owned the dolls before. That might give us another clue as to who the killer is.”
trial 1.1 | mamimi (re: chou, michiko)
The investigation had been a complete waste of time. Mamimi hadn’t set foot in the toy store, and had found herself with practically no evidence to show for her efforts.
Great.
She didn’t have much to add, but she spoke up anyways.
“If we’re doing introductions, or whatever, I’m Mamimi Amano, the SHSL Contemporary Novelist.”
“The hammer you’re talking about, could it have come from the Hardware Store? There’s always the chance it could’ve come from the Gacha Machine in the Grocery Store, since it gives out weapons… but, anyways! I was in the Hardware Store earlier, and I didn’t see much out of the ordinary. There was a big mess in the wood section, but I don’t see how that’s related, unless the killer was practicing on a few boards.”
“If the hammer did come from the Hardware Store… well, did anyone happen to see someone going in or out of there before or around the time the murder was committed?”
“And as for the speedo… at the pool party earlier, Valor was wearing one like you’re describing, Nakahara.”
chapter one | abndays | mamimi (re: body)
Mamimi had been in her room when she received the video from Valor. It was clear that something had happened. Still, as she watched the boy panic, all she felt was vague irritation. What a drama queen. He was displeased with them all. Ooh, how frightening. She was shaking in her shoes… not.
She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed, half-debating not going to see what it was that Valor was so upset about. In the end, curiosity won out: she figured she might as well check it out. It beat laying around all day and generally being lazy.
Not that she actually entered the toy store, of course. Mamimi had gotten the notification on her keycard while she was still en route to the scene of the crime, confirming her sneaking suspicion that Valor was so upset because someone had finally taken it upon themself to get rid of Takeshi. She didn’t feel anything like fear or horror or even anger as she stared at the image of Takeshi’s corpse on her keycard. In fact, a small smile passed over her face. She was safe.
“…”
Now she just had to deal with this investigation crap. Apparently TWELVE really wanted them to get their hands dirty with the blood of their dead classmate? What was the point in that… so that they might find the killer? What were they going to do if they found him, give him a slap on the wrists and make him promise not to kill again? Mamimi didn’t know and didn’t particularly care. Still… maybe participating in this dumb investigation stuff beat out over spending another afternoon unsuccessfully trying to stave off boredom. This was sort of exciting, and it was certainly good material for another book, if she ever managed to write one.
That was how Mamimi ended up making her way to the toy store after all, if only to dash right out again the second she stepped beyond the threshold. The whole store reeked, and it was way worse than anything she had ever smelled before. She stood outside of the store, clutching at her stomach and trying not to gag. Okay, maybe she wouldn’t be playing investigator with the body like everyone else. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t still have fun. She’d just have to investigate elsewhere. After all, in any halfway decent detective novel, all the evidence wasn’t in just one spot.
chapter one | normdays | mamimi (re: event)
[ tw: #unreality, #strangulation mention ]
When she hears the unfamiliar voice on the other end of the call, the first thing she feels is hope. Someone had been trying to reach them, someone had known they were here, someone was likely going to bring them back home: back to Hope’s Peak where things could continue on with relative normalcy. Where they could ignore this kidnapping and put it all behind them, because it hadn’t been as bad as it had been strange. Nothing bad had had a chance to happen, nothing bad would happen, because they were going home - that’s what she told herself.
(She ignores the fact that there’s something wrong with the voice, something fake and inhuman.)
And she enters the hotel lobby, only to feel her heart drop from her chest, into her stomach, heavy and hard as a rock. There was no one here to save them. Of course there wasn’t. There was only their wonderful host and a toy, a rat.
Mamimi’s face and throat feel too hot, dangerous, like if she actually opens her mouth to try and say something she’ll cry. She’s being silly, completely stupid. She should have known there was no hope for them, but here she is anyways, about to cry over the impossible possibility of going home.
And then their host speaks about murder, and Mamimi has the distinct feeling that this is not real. This is not real, this can’t be happening. This place is boring and empty and nothing like home, but she wouldn’t kill to leave - who would? The human life is worth more than that. Three human lives? That’s unthinkable. She wouldn’t kill. She couldn’t.
(She couldn’t, because she still remembers being sixteen and staring at a closed casket because what was left of him didn’t look like a human being anymore. She couldn’t, because all of these people have families and she’s seen firsthand what death does to your loved ones, and like hell she’s doing that to anyone else.)
She’s unshakable, she’s better than this. Everything will be fine. She’s sure her classmates will feel the same way - three lives for the chance to leave this place… it’s in-equivalent exchange, it doesn’t add up. Everything will be fine.
And then Takeshi speaks up, and everything goes to Hell. One of them would die at random if they didn’t kill? She wouldn’t kill to get out of here, but would she kill to save her own skin…? Would one of the others? She had thought she had known everything there was to know about fear and the human condition, but here she was, feeling strangled by an inexplicable terror rising in the back of her mind, coloring her vision, her thoughts, everything with fear. She hadn’t known anything. She could never recreate this feeling in a book.
She wraps her arms around herself, and speaks in a low voice, so that only she and those around her can hear.
“…N…no. I want to go home. I want my mother.”

Given the fact that Sosuke had barely touched his keycard yet, the news that Mamimi was his new neighbor took him slightly by surprise. So they really were supposed to sleep at the hotel, at least for one night. But how long did Twelve intend them to stay? The implication that everyone was trapped indefinitely until The Powers That Be decided otherwise didn’t sit very well with him.
Nevertheless, Sosuke nodded in agreement as Mamimi pointed to her keycard screen. It was probably fortunate for him that he was meeting one of the students who would be living on his floor. It would be a good idea to try and meet the others as well, if time permitted. The name ‘Kazuki Tano’ didn’t ring any bells, but Sosuke did recognize the suspicious pseudonym ‘Twelve’. It was either very lucky that his room was so close to their captor (?), or very unlucky.
“Huh! Well, isn’t that a coincidence. I hope we’ll get along then, Amano-san… if you ever need help with something, feel free to ask.”
Though he seemed to be enjoying their conversation, Mamimi’s words about the school’s ‘history’ caused Sosuke’s grin to fade somewhat.
“Mm. It’d be nice if Hope’s Peak wasn’t actually involved in all of this – although, if they weren’t responsible for us being taken here, I’d be nervous to find out who was.”
“To tell you the truth, I was never really dying to come to this school in the first place, so having this happen to me just feels kinda stupid. You know? Like, they got the wrong guy.”
Sosuke stretched out slightly in his seat, tilting it backwards so that the front legs of his chair lifted off the ground. He was silent and blank-faced for a few moments as he sipped his coffee, but by the time he placed his cup back on the table, his characteristic broad smile had returned.
“But what’s your story? Were you aiming for Hope’s Peak from the beginning?”

prologue | normdays | mamimi (attn: jamie)
horror-novel:
phantomauthor:
His eyes light up a little at that- so he’s not the only one here? That’s a relief to hear, he never hears much about kids having one foreign parent like himself, makes him feel a bit more comfortable without actually realizing it. His smile widens a bit before speaking, someone’s in a good mood all of a sudden.
“Really? I don’t meet many people with a foreign parent- I guess I probably have and parents just weren’t a conversation but still, I never knew!”
His smile lightens again, becoming his resting face once again, his excitement has died down slightly, being excited for long isn’t a common thing for him really, unless something is extremely exciting, and this isn’t like that. He’d be a bit concerned for himself if he stayed happy about that for too long.
“I do agree, Mamimi is a much cuter name than any other name she could’ve named you~ It fits you.”
He gives a small wink to end off the sentence. He was….lowkey flirting, great.
“What a wonderful coincidence that is though, the two of us meeting.” He chuckles. “That’s alright, I mean it is public information so I can’t be too mad that you’ve learned about me from that.”
He considered going to read about her, but why do that when he can just learn about her from herself, it’s more genuine that way and less….straightforward he guesses. It’s nicer to have conversations and get information pieces here and there from the other, you can learn more than the public information this way as well. Jamie moves a bit to sit with her at the table, pulling back a chair.
“May I sit with you?” Standing and talking isn’t fun! Another small chuckle escapes his lips at her statement about sleeping. “Ah- yeah I understand that, I feel like I’d pass out the moment I get to my room too, I hope the rooms are nice at least. They probably are considering how nice this floor is already.”
Even with a personality change from her, he’d still probably try and be friendly and talkative with her, I mean, she’s not being mean to him right now so it won’t be too weird to think she’s not always rude, right? Or at least, that’s the way he sees it.
