“No, no. That isn’t necessary... I’m sure it’ll be fine. I... just ask me next time, please? I... I don’t like people touching my things.”

“I thought it would help? If it’s that bad I can rewire it in a matter of minutes.”
“No, no. That isn’t necessary... I’m sure it’ll be fine. I... just ask me next time, please? I... I don’t like people touching my things.”
Sky made a face. “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss. And I’m not playing with acid. It’s an experiment on the decay of artificial flesh. Now I would love to have a discussion, but when that timer goes off I have three seconds to pull it out. If I don’t I have to set up the experiment again.” Sky went to the table and started to watch the clock. “You’re welcome to stay.” She said off handedly.
“Yes, well, I think you are being very--” Howell started matter-of-factly, his voice tapering off suddenly. Oh dear. The face she made was enough to get his heart pounding. Great, now he had done it. “I just... I just thought that you... never mind.” He murmured, closing his eyes for a few moments, a hand moving to his throbbing temple. Opening his eyes, he looked at her, nose scrunching slightly. “Judging by your tone, my company is unwanted.” The human stated briskly, waving a hand in the hair. Looking down at the folders he held, he set them down on the table, nudging them warily to the side. “Have fun with your experiment.”
“No, no, that’s fine.” Vic said, concern furrowing her brow. “I guess I didn’t think about the chance I was bothering you. Is everything okay, though?”
“I mean, I know we’re strangers but… sometimes that’s okay. I’m a pretty good listener myself.” It was amazing what a hundred and fifty years and some cursed blood did for one’s hearing.
“Oh, no, no... You...” Howell paused, biting his lip, his gaze dropping nervously. Human interaction, he was never good when it came to this. Curse is awkwardness. “You’re not bothering me at all... I... yes, yes everything is fine.”
“Really, it... it’s nothing. I’m fine, but, thank you for the offer.” The human knotted his fingers, green eyes shifting to look at her nervously, as if seeking approval. “I just have a lot on my plate.”
Atticus stared dubiously at the other.  “How can you not like bananas?  What about banana cake?  Banana bread?  Smoothies?  So many good things will be lost if they can’t figure out how to save the species!”
With the bat of thick lashes, Howell looked at the other, his expression matching that of a lost puppy. Was he being serious? He couldn’t tell. “Its simple really... I just don’t like them.” He paused briefly, smiling almost nervously. “Or any of those things for that matter.” He stated softly, chewing his lip thoughtfully. Boston sure had some strange people. “You’re acting like they are an endangered animal. And as far as I know, bananas aren’t exactly... suffering.”
“Considering that you are in my seat I say it does. However instead of asking you to move, I’m asking you if I could simply join you.”
“Well, I did not see your name on it, therefore, I thought it was untaken. But, I don’t see a problem in you... joining me. Although, I have no idea why you would want to. It’s a pleasure...”Â
“You don’t? I just thought you’d want to know what improvements I made to hard drive.”
“Huh? Oh... no... I mean... why? Why in God’s name would you do that?”
“You can’t see why it should concern you?  Dude, do you have any idea how much you should care about the decline in banana production?!”
“No... I do not see why I should care about the decline in... banana production. You see, I don’t even like bananas. The consistency bothers me.”
“Oh… Uh, it really doesn’t, I guess. I was just talking, and you look like you’re a good listener.”
“My apologies... my mind tends to wander and... typically I am a good listener, a fantastic listener really, I’ve just been... out of sorts.”
Skylar holds up the eye protection again with an annoyed gesture. “We are in the middle of an experiment. You are not allowed in the room unless you have these on. So either put them on or get out. I am not losing support because you got acid in your eye.”
A small chuckle escapes the human’s lips as his blue eyes drift to her face. His amusement, once masked, his apparent in his bright hues. “I can see that,” He states softly, his gaze flitting down to look over the various beakers and tubes scattered on the table. Again, he chuckles. “And, you are very bossy.” He added softly, taking the plastic looking glasses from her hands. “Tell me again why you are... playing with acid?”
“I beg your pardon... but I hardly see why this should concern me.”
Fall Into Me || Howie & Ilium
Thin fingers grazed the colorful spines of each book he passed, a soft hum eliciting from him as he wandered the bookstore, pale green eyes glancing over the titles briefly. Running a hand through the messy locks atop his head, Howell yawned softly as he mused the dark locks. He had a hard time falling asleep the previous night and now he was having a hard time keeping his eyes open. Drained, he felt drained. No amount of highly caffeinated tea, or coffee could cure the exhaustion that riddled his body. He had spent all night working into the early more hours, something he had come to regret now, but he found that once he was onto something, well, it was very hard to stop. Stubborn, that’s what his colleagues called him. A small smile slipping across his pale lips at the thought. At least they were getting used to his habits now. It had certainly taken them long enough to realize there was a method to his apparent madness. Yawning again, he turned his attention to the shelves again. He had no idea what he was looking for, no, he had just wandered into the store upon whim. He had passed it by so many times without thought on his way to work, too consumed in his own world to even acknowledge the quaint little shop. However, now that he had ventured inside, he felt a bit overwhelmed by all the books. So many titles, so little time. “They certainly have enough books...” The Brit mumbled to himself softly, dropping his hand for the fourth time from his gaping mouth.
Pale green orbs flickered up to the ceiling high bookshelves, taking in the rolling ladders with mild amusement. It was like an old library in here and Howell couldn’t help but feel a bit nostalgic about his home. If not a bit homesick, although, he would never admit it. Stopping in his tracks the human craned his neck to look at the titles looming over him. Pale fingers moving to adjust his glasses, for they had started to slip down his nose. He really should get them tightened. Narrowing his eyes he scanned the titles, eliciting a soft sound at the fine print on the spines. One title in particular intrigued him, Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter. However, it was much to high for him to reach on his own. Hesitantly, Howell walked over to the ladder and gently nudged it toward the book. With shaking hands, he began to climb, biting into the soft flesh of his lip. Heights, he had never been a fan of them. Particularly when they involved ladders. Swallowing the nauseating feeling swirling in the pit of his stomach, he continued to step up the rungs before his eyes fell on the book. Slowly freeing it from the shelf, he flipped through it from a moment before his descent, his breath hitching in his throat as he felt his foot slip from the rung. With a surprised yelp, face turning sheet white as he soon felt himself falling, the book flying from his hands. For a moment he feared that he would snap his neck. Oh what an awful end this would make. Place of death? Library. Cause of death? Falling from a bloody rolling ladder. If he wasn’t in harm’s way, he would’ve laughed at that thought. However, this was no laughing matter.Â
Suddenly, he felt a strange gust of wind hit his face, strong arms wrapped around him holding him bridal style. Opening his eyes slowly he looked up at his savior, his face suddenly turning a bright shade of pink, green orbs transfixed on the man’s face. He-- he was... beautiful. So beautiful that Howell found himself staring, his face turning a darker shade of red as he quickly looked away. A mumbled apology leaving his pale lips. Not only had he embarrassed himself once, he had to embarrass himself twice. Not only that but-- said stranger was still holding him in his arms.
