how do revisions in apush work? i didn't really think my school has been changing anything in the way we teach it. i mean we still use the eleventh edition haha
So the College Board releases publications of standards for each curriculum, and so the College Board is like, “These are all the things students can potentially have on their AP exam. This is how the test is going to be formatted (e.g. number of short answer questions, how much time is allotted for the DBQ, etc.)” and so on and so on.
For the 2014 - 2015 school year, there was a major redesign of the APUSH curriculum with significant modifications to the curriculum and the test. A part of the redesign included a larger focus on early American history and recent American history. There were also claims that the redesign downplayed American exceptionalism.
I can’t speak for all schools, but my school actually didn’t change the textbook with this redesign. Mostly the teachers just focused on certain areas more than before and prepared the students for the test in different ways (e.g. giving practice APUSH short answer questions since short answer questions were a new addition to the APUSH exam).
College Board doesn’t really do much in terms of designing individual lesson plans. They only give a general outline of what teachers should cover. In fact, there isn’t even one APUSH textbook that College Board mandates. Thus, teachers/schools actually have a lot of leeway in how they want to teach their APUSH course.
