Louis Tomlinson: Live from London
ok but what we need to talk about is copy of a copy of a copy’s placement in the setlist. specifically, how it’s sandwiched between fearless and defenceless.
this was no accident. he’s telling us what the song is about here. first you’ve got fearless, a song that’s very blatantly about looking back on your life with your partner and rekindling what you had that’s been lost to the flames. and then there’s defenceless, a song about vulnerability and letting your walls down.
and right in between that is the new song, where he’s singing to his younger self (and any of us) about how hard it is to be closeted and how soul destroying it is to be told that who you are isn’t good enough, that there’s something wrong with you. not only is he soaring vocally but lyrically, it’s his most honest song too, about something that cut him so deep (”howling till your lungs hurt”, anyone?). but as hard as it is, there’s some comfort in knowing that there have been so many others who have had the same experience, who (devastatingly) will have the same experience because things won’t change. he’s probably read their stories, maybe even talked with some of them, reminded himself of this when things felt so frustratingly bleak. and while things aren’t perfect now, they’re still so much better than they once were–they made it. it’s the perfect fit and i love him so so much for it.
in $20 louis delivered an EPIC show. this was a whole production. his setlist was immaculate. his band was on top of their game. his vocals were... arguably the strongest they’ve ever been. he delivered TWO love letters to his queer fans. he paid homage to one direction. and all for the sake of raising money for charity, for which he managed to pull in an excess of one million dollars. proud is an understatement
