Becoming a champion was one of the greatest honours that could be bestowed on a warrior. Many trained for decades, some even from birth and still failed to be noticed by a mentor.
Champions would fight in the temples for the honour of the gods. To prove themselves worthy of their love and charity. Their name would be known throughout the realm.
You have been trained since the age of thirteen for this honour by your ruthless mentor. There is not a single other competitor your age who stands a chance against you, well not anymore.
There was no room for error in the eyes of your tutor but it was only so long before you were bound to make a mistake.
