Huckabee's '08 campaign manager thinks he'll run

By Shane D'Aprile - 04/21/11 05:24 PM ET Longtime GOP operative Ed Rollins, who managed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's 2008 presidential bid, expects Huckabee will run again in 2012. Rollins told The Daily Beast's John Avlon that if Huckabee makes a decision sometime in the next few weeks, "we'll have plenty of time to put together a serious campaign team that can be very competitive." "He's receiving quite a bit of counsel and encouragement," Rollins said. "He knows he has roughly a June 1 deadline to decide. Personally, it's my sense that he'll go for it this time."

Mike Huckabee Leading In National Polls - Will Announce This Summer

An average of several major polls taken on potential Republican Presidential candidates shows Huckabee near the top. But, the man who bowed out to GOP nominee John Mccain in 2008, has not decided to run in 2012, at least not yet.

"It's not a decision i'm ready to make yet. I'm getting closer and closer. I'm not playing a game with anyone. I think some people think, oh, he knows what he's going to do, he's just playing. I'm very mindful of what it takes to run for president," Huckabee said.

Huckabee says he'll make his decision this summer. In the meantime, he's soaking up the spotlight. He's making appearances on programs like "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart, and "The View." he's keeping himself visible.  Quick Click!

Mike Huckabee holds an edge in two new polls of South Carolina Republicans, despite maintaining a low public profile in the early-voting state.

New polls from Winthrop University and American Research Group have the former Arkansas governor holding the top spot among GOPers surveyed in the state, capturing 19.1 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

Huckabee 'asking folks to keep their powder dry,' adviser says

 One of Mike Huckabee's political confidantes in the early primary state of South Carolina spoke with the former Arkansas governor Thursday and received assurances that he is still "seriously" weighing a presidential bid.

Mike Campbell, who chaired Huckabee's South Carolina campaign in 2008, told CNN that he called his former boss after a South Carolina blog erroneously claimed that Huckabee had decided against running again in 2012.

"He said, 'Mike, obviously that's unfounded and completely untrue,'" Campbell said of his conversation with Huckabee. "He told me, 'I'm just asking folks to keep their powder dry because there may be something coming in the future that may be worth keeping your powder dry for."

Asked about his presidential intentions, the former Arkansas governor told Campbell, "I am weighing it very heavily and I am considering it as seriously as I have ever been."

Drudge Report Links Story That Claims Huckabee Is Not Running

It looks as if Mike Huckabee won’t be making a presidential run in 2012 after all.  An article at the Process Story blog says they have been told Huckabee is “giving his former S.C. supporters the nod to seek work on other presidential campaigns. The word is that he’s told South Carolina staffers that they have his blessing for them to peddle their wares elsewhere.”

Huckabee is a Fox News contributor with his own weekend show, which he would have to suspend if he entered the presidential race.  He’s been polling very well in South Carolina.  If he’s releasing key staffers in that state, he’s probably not far from formally declaring a non-candidacy.
