Juvenile Timber Rattlesnake found under a rock. Youngest timber I have seen that wasn’t newborn. New York USA. Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus)
Lovely Timber Rattlesnake from earlier in the year. There were four in the surrounding area. New York USA
This is my experience with maternal protection with timbers: I had seen this snake earlier in the year and its response was always to quickly retreat back into its crevice. However when I found this snake the day I took this photo it was originally in its crevice, but after I stood there for a minute or so it came out of its crevice and sat in front of the babies and rattled. Just one experience but it was certainly neat, and not a behavior I had seen prior. The first photo is about a minute before the second. New York. Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus)
This mama was NOT happy that I was near her babies. She came out of her crevice to greet me with an intimidating pose and rattle. Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) NY
Sorry for the lack of posts! The weather hasn’t been too kind for herping. I am going to start posting old photos I never posted. In the meantime check out my most recent youtube video!

Took a short hike today to check on these two gravid Eastern Copperheads -Agkistrodon contortrix They should be giving birth in a week or so.
Amazing to see the next generation of Timber Rattlesnakes born here in New York. They are a threatened species so being able to see 150~ babies is really heartwarming. Timber Rattlesnake - Crotalus horridus Hudson Valley NY
Lovely Timber Rattlesnakes crammed under a rock. There were 23~ visible in and around this rock (9~ Neonates 14~ Adults). Timber Rattlesnake- Crotalus horridus Hudson Valley New York.
Got to see my first neonate (newborn) Timber Rattlesnakes today! At a new gestation site I was scoping out to boot! I saw about 20 total, and the best part is most of the adults I found didn’t give birth yet so there are more sweet babies to come !
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” Lovely neonate basking next to its mom/aunt. Timber Rattlesnake - Crotalus horridus
This Timber I found yesterday prevented me from getting skunked (when looking for timbers) for the first time. Big and lovely snake. Timber Rattlesnake - Crotalus horridus
Found these two gravid female Eastern Copperheads (Agkistrodon contortrix) during the eclipse today. They have to be close to giving birth as they were veery plump. Hudson Valley, New York
This Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) slithered away to reveal these four (theres a hidden fifth) Eastern Copperheads (Agkistrodon contortrix). Hudson Valley NY USA
Lovely dark Eastern Copperhead found next to a lovely light Eastern Copperhead. I love seeing this contrast. Hudson Valley, New York.

GORGEOUS yellow Timber Rattlesnake. One of eight today and by far the prettiest (the rest were shedding). Hudson Valley NY Timber Rattlesnake- Crotalus horridus
There were originally three under this rock but two left, and I was sad at first but it allowed me to photograph this LOVELY girl. Timber Rattlesnake - Crotalus horridus.
