I think quite a few of us forget that what we see of Tom is a public persona and that's simply it. While my admiration and respect for him is quite high there have been quite a few things recently which have made me step back and take a harder look. Tom refers to himself as an extrovert and optimist both of which he is clearly not if you listen to him and watch him in certain situations he demonstrates clear evidence of an introvert and pessimistic behavior. His dancing, insisting on catering to his fans and other behavior shows a clear need to please people under his own admittion he hates confrontation, which looks to be combined with his need to see anyone upset with him. There were reports of him having a temper at the hospital over his stitches (all of which were dismissed by fans at the time) then we find out he did go to the ER to get some stitches, so most likely the story was true. He shows clear signs of emotional issues most likely (cont) stemming from his parents divorce when he was 13 (very vulnerable age for a young boy) While I personally find this all endearing, I think we forget this man is still human and looks to contain a darker side he isn’t close to letting anyone see which causes him to overcompensate in other ways.

Here’s what I can glean (and really what any of us can glean from the small snippet that is his life - my gawd, I’m glad no one does this to me).  He’s an introvert and I’m willing to bet money.  His MBTI is most likely INF(P).  No, I do not have facts to back this up - no one does.  But you can pull tons of key phrases out of interviews - his passions, his disdain for confrontations, how he draws his energy from inward, his proclivities toward certain levels of solitude.  Yeah, he seems to be easy-going with people, but that doesn’t automatically mean extrovert.  I can pull specific quotes if people really want, but I’m tired and spent half the day in the ER with my friend.  Which by the way, my dear friend who is the epitome of self-composure had a very hard day at the hospital.  Toss the temper business out the window for anyone who is hurt or upset, please, especially regarding a head injury.  We don’t know the whole story.  Anyway, I digress… I’m going to make this personal for a sec.  I’m 33 and when I take a challenging look at my world view and my personal life view, how I feel and how I express myself is very different when I put on my professional hat.  I have to maintain a certain level of positivity and even will hand out the occasional platitude for my clients to help them deal with their pain and anxiety.  In my personal life, do I have a “darker side?”  Fuck yes, who doesn’t?  Do I let clients or the public know about this.  Fuck no.  No one needs to know beyond my close circle of family and friends what kind of darkness I feel and think about.  I can smile and laugh and dance with the best of them, but behind closed doors is my business.  Perhaps my strength is that I’m really good (too good) at saying no, except maybe when it comes to my profession.

It appears Tom has and continues to work at trying to maintain some level of a private life along with his public persona.  Is it possible he is having a hard time navigating it?  Sure.  Is/Has/Will he make mistakes.  Um, yeah.  Is he a total nightmare like some other PR wrecks.  C’mon, no.  I don’t know him personally and I can’t defend or encourage his actions any more or less than the rest of us.  It just bugs me to see such scrutiny and projections being tossed his way.  Like I said at the beginning, I’m glad this doesn’t happen to me, because holy shit I’d be fucked, lulz. So take away what you want, enjoy what he does or not, don’t get to cray cray and just recognize he’s on level ground (not pedestal) like the rest of us.  I think that’s the corker.

I disagree with the idea that he is an introvert. Tom draws his energy from his social interactions. Even in his solitude he will still put himself where there are people around him. He talks a lot. Even to people he just met. Benedict Cumberbatch is an example of an introvert. Him and Tom are almost total opposites.
