Crash Landing Aliens

After years reading stories of humans being terrified out of their minds (or excited beyond belief) about aliens coming to Earth, it’s finally happening. But instead of little green men or drop-dead gorgeous warriors looking for women to help them repopulate their planets, instead, they just get more humans. And technically we’re not aliens. At least, I don’t think we’d be considered aliens. We’re neither green (or silver as some people thought aliens would be) or any more attractive than any other human ever was. Though maybe the fact we’re not actually from Earth means we actually are aliens. Who knows? No one ever said we’d have to look completely different from humans to be aliens – we just need to be from outer space, and if that’s the only qualification, then I guess that’s what we are.

Not Alone out there

After at least a century, we finally know once and for all that the humans on Earth didn’t all die out like so many have thought. In fact, they’re thriving. Kind of. What exactly constitutes thriving anymore? The point is, they’re alive. They still work to the bone for their food, which makes sense considering they don’t have any of the technology we’ve managed to develop to make the food we eat in space, which allows us to eat star dust and water (it sounds weird, but it actually tastes great and it’s almost impossible to get fat on star dust). We woke up in a makeshift med bay (or hospital as it’s called down here apparently) after crash landing on Earth and have been interrogated by the local guard named Agent Seely Bueller. Strange name for a guy who seems to only excel in taking days off considering he’s supposed to have taken us to their leader, and instead, he’s been off doing who the heck knows what. But that’s okay. It’s given us time to get to know Wille Allen, the leader of the town we crashed next to, and Jiroemon Kimura, Willie’s right-hand man.

Too early to panic.

When you don’t know the answer to something in the station, it’s easy to find the answer when you just have to go to your supervisor who more likely than not knows exactly what to do. But here on Earth that’s a little difficult *cough* more like impossible because we need to be able to ask someone, anyone for help to get back to the station, or figure out what happened so it doesn’t happen again, but we can’t get our messages through to the station. Should we panic? Technically I want to, but it’s a little too early to start panicking. Besides, it’s been fun learning about the way they live down here, from the way they grow their own food (Susume’s been having a field day getting to get his hands dirty in actual dirt, and getting to touch the animals he’s learned so much about but has never had the chance to see in person – no one has to be fair), raise the animals that will become food, harvest things from the animals to use to make clothes, and so much more that I just can’t name.

Save us, or help them?

I’ve never been more grateful to be able to just press a button and shut off the ability to hear the idiot next to me who’s used to working on heavy machinery and seems to think that translates to working with the delicate inner components of a computer, especially when the computer is at least 200 years old and that’s if my guess isn’t too far off, and it’s confused thinking it was sending out communication recently. Thankfully, Willie managed to talk John into helping him on the tractor and different cars that aren’t working quite right, so I could actually get some work done. The station sent out messages in morse code last night, which said that we’re not the only ones who need help. But what the heck’s going on up there is a little confusing. None of us were the best at morse code, so we’re not sure if they were saying that there are several systems shutting down one at a time, or if there’s some kind of virus attacking the computers that run the station. Either way, we’ve got to do something if we ever want to see our families again.

Treason from Above and Below

What the heck is my sister thinking? I don’t think anyone can answer. This computer might be ancient by our standards, but it’s just as good as it was in its heyday after the information it managed to save. Note to self in case I ever plan on being this stupid: make sure the secret conversation you’re having with a lazy agent is on a secure line if you don’t ever want to be discovered. Or better option, just don’t do it. It’s so much easier to not do stupid things which results in other people getting hurt (or potentially getting hurt) and save everyone the trouble of fixing the problems. Thankfully, it wasn’t nearly as hard to find the problem keeping communication down as I thought it would be, and the mechanics are already working on fixing the damage to the sabotaged sections of the station. Once they fix all the problems, they’ll send a rescue ship down to Earth, and we’ll go home. Some of us will, anyway. I think I’m going to stay a while, see what this little planet has to offer. I know Susume’s going to stay as well to do some better hands-on training.
