Wear White and Be Mine | The Wedding
Wait. Wait, wait, was she paying him back? Say it back. Say it back! Brandon willed with his mind, going a bit pale as she had. The whine that was starting in his throat started to build. Come on, come on! She wasnâtâ she wouldnât dare toâ Oh thank Jesus.
"Jerk," he whispered with a broad grin and laced his fingers with hers. This was it. They were reallyâ he had finallyâ oh God. Screw it. The second the minister claimed he could kiss her, the very start of his words, Brandon surged forward and pressed his lips to hers. A kiss just barely suitable for a wedding, his brow touching hers, his grin incredibly happy and broad, and he pulled back slightly. This was real and she was his, he was hers. Finally. Finally, really, forever, they were each othersâ.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Roberts!
With his hand holding hers, Brandon grinned at his wife as cheers erupted, walking with her down the aisle.
She could see the panic, and the smile gave away her attempt to scare him as he did to her. Heart stammered, she felt like an idiot. Half the people here could hear it beating loudly, couldn't they? No more then the man in front of her. The Minister spoke, but Frankie didn't pay him any attention. Say it, she thought. Say I'm his wife.
She smiled, arms around his shoulders, leaning back with the force of his kiss, but she didn't care. Married. The thing she didn't think she was capable of, she did with Brandon. Alone it showed there was someone out there who changed everything --- he made her better. Smiling against the kiss, the giddy laugh breaking through as she pressed her forehead against his.
Following him down the aisle, Frankie stopped at the end of it, kissing Brandon once more, as she whispered against his lips. âWe have to tell them, Brandon.â She said, meeting his eyes, the go-ahead to do so clear in the look he gave her.
Her grandmother next to her at the end, her one hand locked in Brandon's, the other on the suddenly frail woman's shoulders. Family. It was what brought them all together, right? So they would understand.
âWe had this weddin' tonight because we wanted t' share it with y'all. But the truth is,â She scanned their faces. Some knew. Some didn't. Heart thundering, she continued. âBrandon and I are leavin' tomorrow morning. We're gon' go on the Honeymoon and then... We're movin' out of Beacon Hills t' Alabama, t' take care of m' Grandmother.â She squeezed the older woman's shoulder, catching her mother's eye. âAs y' can see, she's taken a turn for the worse and... And I always promised her I would go back home at some point.. this is tha' point.
âThe house is paid for,â She started, addressing Ravenna. â And if anyone in the pack needs a place t' stay, go there. I'm leavin' all the furniture, jus' takin' the things I need. Use it in case y'all need a break from one another. As for Brandon's house,â She turned her attention to Sophie. âWe paid for it. It's yours now, so all y' gotta do is buy y' own food.â
She wiped the small tear that rolled down her cheek, squeezing Brandon's hand for a moment as she leaned into his side, sighing under her breath. âWe love y'all. And we'll miss y'all... But we have t' go. So..â She shrugged. âLet's drink, and party and.... hang out one las' time, okay?â She said, swallowing the truth that had been pressing to be told since they decided to leave.
It wouldn't be easy leaving Beacon Hills, that was for sure. Too much had happened. But it would be important to her. It would be where she and Brandon started, where her second family would reside while she moved away.
âC'mon,â She said, helping her Grandfather help her Grandmother stand slowly, a grip gentle but firm on the woman as she stood her up slowly. âWe can eat, we can talk... and... jus' do this with y'all once las' time.â She said, smiling at all of them, as she turned away, leading the group to the small space under lanterns and candlelight where they would eat dinner; chicken, obviously. It would be one last meal, but the meal would be shared with the ones she and her new husband loved the most.
Now all she had to do was make sure that her brother James wasn't thanking Jesus for deeming her a sinful virgin before marriage.
END
Frankie..Â
