All the Hurt and Comfort You Need

Hurt and Comfort is a fanwork genre that includes the physical pain or emotional discomfort of one character, who is then cared for by another character or by themselves.

Our main event is the Hurt and Comfort Bingo, where you can sign up and receive a 1x5, 3x3, or 5x5 bingo card. This bingo event is for creators who wish to create under this genre! It can also be used to explore variations of it, such as Hurt No Comfort, and Comfort No Hurt.

Our mini event is the Pick Your Poison, where you can receive a 2x3 bingo card. And where you get to choose your prompts under three categories: Poison, Symptom, and Result.

2025 Updates!

First of all, happy holidays and welcome 2025, everyone! Hope all has been well, and that you are all good and safe.

This bingo event has been a spur-of-the-moment, and one I deeply grew in love with. The reception and support has been massive, and I am glad everyone loves it as much as I do!

Given that, I hope to accomplish all lingering 2024 requests within January-February, and plan some new and fresh prompts to come for this year. Thank you so much for the patience, and for even reaching out privately on the status of the blog, and your cards! I have been managing bit by bit to get through them, and hope to get them out in big batches.

I'm alive!!

Probably going to be a lot of time before another update but to reassure everyone of the event and the status of the HCB...

I'm alive!! Just swamped with lots of academics, and also nearing the preliminaries, so gotta work my braincells for that.

Cards are slowly being worked through, but may have to close the form like last time just to make sure everyone's cards are not just strung together out of my incompetence...

So yeah!! Alive, still thinking about you guys and the HCB, just need to prioritize my academics.

Hey, just 'cause I'm new to this, I checked your queue post and the main H/C one was blank. Does that mean r/l is kicking your ass or do you wait for the close of sign-ups to start sending the cards of h/c doom ;) or something else that is none of my business so I should just go back to my hovel and be a patient writer? Like I said, new to bingos, so I'm still figuring out what is normal and what isn't. Thank you!

To answer your first question; Mostly life has been hectic— Doesn't also help that my area has been hit by the typhoon recently, so I haven't been online at all. With August coming around, I'm about to get into the first week of orientations in my college, so pretty messy and busy, all in all.

For this bingo specifically, this is still something I'm trying to fix! Time management is a struggle, but I can manage giving a dedicated time to this bingo instead of the spontaneous time periods these past few weeks. I've been keeping track of the applications, so all the cards are present! It's just that my queue isn't updated, whoops.

But all in all, I am planning to get things straightened out and going again for August, and not have it get into the end-year as much as possible!

Hope all this clears up some confusion!

You should be able to find it via my queue, but unfortunately on my end I just haven't been able to update it.

I'm going to explain in another ask, so the short of it is; I have received all the cards thus far, been doing them whenever I could, so don't worry! It's just been super slow mostly because life had gotten so busy and also messy. My ETA to get things back on track, is around August (I'm going to try to make it stick to August and not, later)!

No, it's not mandatory. If you want to just apply for the challenges, it's fine! I won't chase you down or anything.

The one thing I do make mandatory for card applications is just replying to my message / email that you receive the card! Just to keep track of the apps and also make sure I don't miss anyone.

As of right now, I should have gotten all the sign-ups! As for production, I had just been a bit slow since my classes start on August but lots of school-related stuff have started to begin (club recruitments, etc) this month, so I may be swamped.

Hello!

You can choose to continue with your R1 card even if you want to request for an R2 card! I won’t chase you down and demand you finish your current card totally so you’re eligible to request for a new one—Request as much as you want, in moderation!

The rounds are pretty loose; they mainly act as times I open/close the sign-ups to do card production, prompt list clean-ups, and account for personal commitments away from the blog.

Hey, I saw the rule about only one card at a time, does that mean one card per round, or one card overall? If, say, we have a card from round 1 that we're still working on, can we sign up for one in round 2?

Hello Anon!

The rule essentially means that, upon signing up, you can only ask for one card at a time, unlike some bingos where you have the option to request multiple cards. So for the HCB, its kinda like saying you can only choose a 5x5 card, and not a 5x5, 3x3, and a 1x5.

This is because its easier for me to make the cards and send them out efficiently, as its one card per participant!

But to also answer your second question: If you signed up for a card first round, you are absolutely welcome to sign up for the second round! I won’t hunt you down in case you haven’t finished your previous card/s to make sure you completed it, so feel free to request a card.

It’s ideal to complete the card before requesting another, just so I won’t mistake your subsequent sign up as an error, too! The forms can get a little finicky and cause some overlap, but this helps prevent that.

For Pick Your Poison, do we have to include one of each prompt type in one fic? Or can we just use one Result prompt, or a Poison + Result combo, etc?

Hello Anon!

The short answer: Ideally, the former of Poison + Symptom + Result. But you can do anything you want with your card! One prompt per fic, 2-3 prompts per fic, even all prompts for one fic.

The long answer: When Pick Your Poison was created, it was using the idea of multiple prompts being combined to make a fic. So, I had in mind fics would under PYP would use a combination of Poison + Symptom + Result prompts.

But since there has been rare and unique requests of a full on Poison, Symptom, and Result cards (granted, its 3 cards total but each card is just of one category), I have since reconsidered and allowed more freedom on what to do with the cards!
