Mixtape Monday 11/14/16
Click one of the links below to listen to this week’s mix on Spotify or YouTube! This week’s offering is a collection of tunes that I’ve been jamming to and haven’t been able to get out of my head. In turn, I hope you won’t be able to get some of these songs out of you head either. As always let me know what you think.. either here on the blog or on Facebook or Twitter.

1. The Beatles - “Eight Days a Week”
We kick off this week’s mix with a Beatles classic. I’m in the midst of watching the latest documentary of the same name directed by Ron Howard. I highly recommend it so far. I’ve always been a big fan of the fab four, since being introduced to their music by my father in my childhood. Much of my musical basis comes from my father’s influence.
2. NEEDTOBREATHE - “HAPPINESS”
Great tune off NEEDTOBREATHE’s latest effort, HARDLOVE.
3. Radiohead - “Just”
I’ve always been a fan of the jam to this tune.
4. Colony House - “You Know It”
Great new tune from a phenomenal up-and-coming group from Nashville. Colony House just signed with major-label, RCA Records, to release their follow-up to 2014′s breakout debut, When I Was Younger. Give these guys a listen.
5. The Black Keys - “Have Love Will Travel”
Thickfreakness is arguably one of The Black Keys best albums. I love the groove of this tune and how this Ohio duo makes a two-piece sounds like a full band.
6. Twenty One Pilots - “Heathens”
Twenty One Pilots, for me, is one of those bands that grows on you. I couldn’t get into them for the longest time, but now I quite-often can’t get them out of my head. Case-in-point, this cut from the soundtrack to the DC Comics movie Suicide Squad.
7. Stevie Wonder - “For Once In My Live”
Continuing with songs that get stuck in my head, I bring you Stevie Wonder. Hit after hit for many decades. You can’t go wrong with a Stevie Wonder track. That harmonica along will get your toe tapping.
8. The Lone Bellow - “Teach Me To Know”
NYC-based, The Lone Bellow is a band that has exploded on the folk and Indie scene. I had the pleasure to see them in a small show a few years back in Boston and fell in love with their harmonies, as showcased here in this track from their self-titled debut album. You’ll find this track as the first song to come on after the lights come up after Switchfoot’s current Looking For America tour.
9. Adele - “Send My Love(To Your New Lover)”
I really dig the groove to this track as well and it doesn’t hurt that Adele’s voice is one of the best in the biz. This is one of those tracks that you can sing along to and just sound out the vocalizations on the chorus and have a good time.
10. Sinatra - “Bein’ Green”
Had to throw in a track from Old Blue Eyes. If you can’t already tell, what makes this song special is that a Legend such as Sinatra would cover another legendary performer, Kermit The Frog.
11. Johnny Cash - “We’ll Meet Again”
Speaking of Legends covering legendary songs, here’s a great tune from The Man In Black’s The Amercian Recordings series. Originally made famous in 1939 by Vera Lynn in the World War II era, it was later made famous in the rock n roll world by The Byrds.
12. Jerry Douglas feat Mumford & Sons and Paul Simon - “The Boxer”
Closing out this week’s Mixtape Monday with another cover of a classic song. Here’s Jerry Douglas featuring Mumford & Sons and Paul Simon covering this Simon & Garfunkel hit.
There you have it folks. As always, let me know what you think and please check out past mixtapes as well! These offerings are a part of me. These are my jams and I always a musical discussion of what moves you.

Mixtape Monday! 11/7/16
It’s baaaaaaack... just in-time for the end of the world! No I’m not some doomsday dude or conspiracy theorist, it just the TV and internet is squawking at us about the upcoming important event coming tomorrow being almost apocalyptic. No matter what side you’re on, let’s all get behind today’s return of Mixtape Monday. I’m titling this one “The End of the World Mix”... let’s find the humor in all of this, the irony, and remember to be kind to each other.
Check out this week’s mixtape on Spotify!
If you don’t have Spotify... check out the mix on Youtube!
1. R.E.M. - “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)”
There’s no way one can have an “End of the World Mix” and not have this classic R.E.M. track.
2. Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats - “I Need Never Get Old”
Love the energy of this tune!
3. Switchfoot - “If The House Burns Down Tonight”
Great tune about dealing with the fires that threatened Switchfoot’s studio in San Diego and devastated many folks in Southern California.
4. “Weird Al” Yankovic - “Foil”
“Weird Al” always seems to make me smile. I recently got the opportunity to see him perform this and many other hits live. If you have the chance to see him live, GO. He puts on a solid, non-stop, two hour set that will leave you wanting more.
5. Welshly Arms - “Legendary”
I recently discovered Welshly Arms on the 2016 let of Needtobreathe’s Tour de Compadres. The energy and showmanship of this band was impressive. They easily may be my pick for breakout hit of the year. Go see this band before they explode on the scene, because I truly believe they’ll be huge before we know it.
6. Needtobreathe - “MONEY & FAME”
Great track from their latest album, HARD LOVE. As stated earlier, got to see them perform this track on their latest leg of the Tour de Compadres. They put on a phenomenal live show.
7. Relient K - “Elephant Parade”
I’m impressed with their latest effort, Air for Free. I’ve seen great maturity in the musicality and lyrics from Matt Thiessen. Mind you, I’ve been a fan of rK for quite some time, but I do enjoy experiencing how the sound has changed over the years while holding onto their musical integrity. Recently, I was able to attend three stops on the Looking for America tour with Switchfoot. Get out to see them on this tour if they are coming through your town.
8. Alabama Shakes - “Don’t Wanna Fight”
Incredible groove to the Alabama Shakes. They’ve been the soundtrack of many a day here at HutchdaddyVinyl.
9. Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors - “Shine Like Lightning”
Great group I discovered a few years back through NoiseTrade. They impressed me even more when I caught them on the 2015 leg of the Tour de Compadres with Needtobreathe and Switchfoot
10. Branches - “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”
Wonderful cover of the track made famous by The Darkness. Sure there’s nothing quite like the falsetto of The Darkness’s Justin Hawkins, but they surely pay great tribute to song and make it their own. Love the instrumentation behind the already beautiful vocal blend.
11. Bishop Briggs - “River”
Taking alternative radio by storm, Bishop Briggs brings great groove to the music scene. I can’t seem to get this song out of my head, and with just cause.
12. MUTEMATH - “Changes”
The title track from MUTEMATH’s new remix album of their 2015 smash Vitals. This is essentially the only “new” song from the album if we aren’t counting the reworkings of the other tracks. This song made it’s live debut during the band’s Lollapalooza set this past year. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, MUTEMATH is easily one of the best live bands out there.
13. Switchfoot - “Hope Is The Anthem”
This “End of the World” Mix needs to end with some hope. Thus, one of my new favorite tracks, at least lyrically, from Switchfoot. In the unrest and uncertainty of our road ahead we need to hold onto hope... “My heartbeat, my oxygen / My banner, my home / My future, my song / Your hope is the anthem of my soul”
There you have it folks. I leave you this Mixtape Monday with a lil Rick Roll gif on this the The return of Mixtape Monday. As always, let me know what you think and please check out past mixtapes as well! These offerings are a part of me. These are my jams and I always a musical discussion of what moves you.

Throwback Thursday 1/15/15
The current trend around social media is to live vicariously through our memories and nostalgia by posting pictures and threads of time gone by. Here at Hutchdaddy Vinyl, we'll jump on and ride that wave by bringing you a new Throwback playlist each week.
You can listen along on YouTube here... "Throwback Thursday 1/15/15"
Every so often, my Father and I will get together and look for some old tunes to add to his(and my) collection. A few of the tracks on this week's offering has been inspired by a recent session.
1. Joe Cocker - "With A Little Help From My Friends" Live at Woodstock 1969 In honor of the recent passing of the great rock icon, here's Joe Cocker's most famous performance. Cocker often would cover some hits and make them more famous that the original. This rings true with this McCartney/Lennon penned hit originally from The Beatles Sgt Pepper's..
2. Cornbread & Jerry - "Lil' Ole Me" This track from 1961, was the intro music for the popular Vermont Public Radio program "My Place" when the late David Field hosted. "My Place" went on to be helmed by another VPR radio great, Joel Najman in 1983.
3. Stevie Wonder - "Superstition" I often include this track on my playlists, due to the incredible instrumentation. When it comes on the radio, it is one of those tracks that you turn up the dial, roll down the windows and jam. There are so many deeper cuts from Stevie Wonder I could add here, but we'll keep that for later Throwbacks.
4. Joe Cocker - "Feelin' Alright" In further tribute, here's a track originally written in 1968 by Dave Mason of the band Traffic. I love Cocker's vocals and the piano especially.
5. Paul McCartney/Wings - "Maybe I'm Amazed" If I were to rank ballads written by Paul McCartney in the post Beatles era, "Maybe I'm Amazed" would be at the top of the list. This song was dedicated to his beloved wife Linda, who helped him through the difficult time when the Beatles disbanded.
6. The Hollies - "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" You've heard this track all over the place. It gained a resurgence when it was featured on the soundtrack for Remember The Titans, but I know this track most as one of my Father-in-law's favorite songs. Love the rhythm guitar on this one.
7. Stealers Wheel - "Stuck In The Middle With You" Great track from Stealers Wheel's 1972 self-titled album.
8. Hot Tuna - "Water Song" Back in the late 90s, I DJed at small radio station in the Adirondacks, and this was a favorite instrumental I'd spin when I go the opportunity.
9. The Kinks - "Picture Book" I was re-introduced to this hit from 1968's The Kinks Are the Village when I heard it in an HP commercial. Great song.
10. Johnny Cash - "We'll Meet Again" Recently, Stephen Colbert performed this hit from 1939 with a cast of dignitaries to send off his long-running popular show, The Colbert Report. "We'll Meet Again" has been recorded by many people over the years from The Turtles and The Byrds to The Muppets. I came across this version when listening to American IV: The Man Comes Around. If you haven't heard Cash's American series, I highly recommend listening to all of them.
That's a wrap on this week's Throwback mix. Let me know your thoughts and also what you're listening to! Be sure to also follow us on Facebook and on Twitter for the latest updates and exclusive content!
Back in November, U2 had planned to do a week residency on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Unfortunately, Bono injured himself in a cycling accident in Central Park and had to cancel the day before the stint was supposed to begin. In their place, Fallon and The Roots did a killer take on "Desire". Enjoy!

Three Michael McDonalds Sing ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’
The only thing better than one Michael McDonald is three. Featuring Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.
It is "Justin Timberweek" On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Last night Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake were impersonating what Michael McDonald would sound like singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" when McDonald himself showed up. This was a pretty hilarious skit from last night. We're only hoping that a fourth installment of "The History of Rap" will make an appearance before weeks' end.
